Even if I lived in the States, I'd still wait for the torrent. How can you guys watch those shows with that amount of interruptions from ads?

I don't remember that being brought up in the middle of season 8 when they started talking about the Daedalus.

But yeah, I noticed the thing about the shows seeming out of sync, too. At the end of last season's Atlantis it sounded like the Daedalus was already rushing as fast as it could to Atlantis, whereas on SG1's season opener there was still some time before it even left.

The Daedalus uses Asgard warp engines but not their power supply that's why with a ZPM it can travel intergalactic space. I would assume opening of the season opener is before the Daedalus left for Atlantis.

We DL the European episodes. :D

Can someone tell me who that black guy on Stargate is? Hel ooks like a drag queen but with some tattoo on his forehead.

:lol

If only this were enough of a description to go by.

I'm assuming you mean Teal'c, played by Christopher Judge, but that's just because he's the most common character that sort of fits the description. If not...well, there's some narrowing down to do. Gold tatoo or black? Old or young? Big or small? (For the record, Judge would be gold, young, big)

Teh Hamburglar said:
Yeah, he is pretty big. I've always thought "Damn, drag queens in space."

Thats weird with a beard ya know.

That's nothing. The villain in the original Stargate movie was the actor who played Dil in The Crying Game.

So they're leaving Atlantis undefended for weeks at a time while they go back and forth to Earth via the Daedalus? When was it mentioned on the show that the Daedalus used the ZPM for intergalactic hyperspace travel? I missed that.

It was a Stargate episode, not sure which one but it was last season.

Ah-ha! I knew it! "Since we installed the ZPM, we've made several interesting discoveries". The ZPM was on Atlantis while the Daedalus was in transit. That line, in addition to the fact that they would have been leaving the majority of the Atlantis expedition not only without leadership but without defense or an escape route, proves it.

They left Atlantis undefended because the wraith (they hope) thinks it was destroyed.

Well, here we go. The new villian of SG1 is here. Hmmm...

So it's already been noted how the ZPM was still on Atlantis, but also remember that they were already planning on using the Prometheus to get to Atlantis nearly a year back, totally ZPM-less. Later the Daedalus was scheduled to do the same, episodes before they found the ZPM at the end of last season.

And the flashbacks of this episode of Atlantis pretty much clear up the time discontinuity. Looks like there was about a month+ gap in SG1 that happened between the seasons, but on Atlantis the month+ gap was between episode 1 and 2 of this season. So I'm thinking the trip to Atlantis that Daniel missed was the one they were taking in tonight's SGA episode, as opposed to the emergency battle mission. I'm sure those behind the shows keep a decent timeline of events.

I loved tonights SG-1, the humor was toned down and that ending sequence along was spectacular. Felt fresh and new to me.

Atlantis was strong, but a bit formulatic. Nothing exciting.

BSG, very good and dramatic. Good cylon stuff and wonderful classical music. More Dr. and Six stuff though would be nice. Probably coming in the future though.

SG-1 was definitely the best of the bunch tonight. It was, a strong Daniel/Vala episode (the burn scene was insane) but Mitchell had a real breakthrogh moment when he was fighting the holographic knight that I think earned him a degree of respect that he didn't have. The Jaffa stuff is sure to be a mess later on this season, and the old mantra that wars of revolution are followed by civil wars looks like it might come into play later. Frasier's replacement is a familiar hottie and we were all happy to see Rommie again. :)

I don't miss Carter at all, oddly enough. Vala > Carter.

I felt Atlantis did what they had to do-to not do an ep with the Daedalus after spending a season cooped up on Atlantis save for puddlejumper forays, they needed a "ship" episode and we got an OK one.

BSG was insanely good but I wouldn't expect anything less. I hope we can start typing up loose ends more seriously over the next four episodes though, I don't want the show to start opening up so much stuff that it will take forever to sew things back up again.

Atlantis was OK, but it did have one part where it got too silly.

When McKay said "Oh crap", I was like "No, they aren't going to have an Asgard say 'Oh crap'..."

They did.

Is Star Gate: Atlantis any good? I've never seen any Star Gate show so I dunno what to expect. Can I head in to this new season without needing to know anything? I don't even know what the show's about.

Bah, Remius (is that his name?) freaking rocks.... he's such an atypical Asgard... it's a nice change of pace IMO. I especially love how he appears to curse in Asgardian tongue.

Got a question about BSG. If a thermonuclear device was detonated above Capica City, how come most of the building seem to be mostly intact? You would think the city would have been mostly wiped out.

Well they don't really get into a lot of details about the devices, but I've always assumed they were neutron bombs which are more designed to kill people and leave the 'real estate' largely intact. I believe there are international treaties expressly prohibiting the construction and testing of such weapons. Either that or something that scatters a more esoteric form of radiations because its not necessarily the initial blast that will kill ya, its the radiation.

I appreciate that they've got to make some money and if sitting through a few ads (while I generally eat or play with my dog) keeps the show coming, I'm okay with that.

I hope they get around to explaining more about what's up with O'Neill. It's understandable that Anderson doesn't want to spend all his time working on the show, but as a character O'Neill seems like he really became attached to the SGC and especially the other members of SG1 (some more than others). It's just a thick dangling thread right now.

I wouldn't enjoy SG1 nearly as much if I hadn't watched it in order. It's definitely not a show where the status of people, worlds, relations with other species, technology, and so on is the same from week to week. Having seen SG1 before Atlantis helps, but is not totally necessary since it's a pretty fresh start. But starting off at season 2 of Atlantis... there'd be a ton of confusion, I think. Perhaps you could find a decent synopsis of the first season online, if you don't mind having some eventual viewing of it seem like a rerun.

I believe they are planning to release season 1 of atlantis on DVD this fall - the series had a pretty strong first season in my opinion.

I liked this weeks SG:sg1 better than I did the opener. I just hope by midseason the show will hit its stride with all the new cast members. SG:a was a filler epsisode that moved a few plot lines along like wiers oldman dumping her, sheppard getting a promotion and a restocking of the redshirts.

BSG has really impressed me this season. By getting rid of the sex and cutting back on Dr. Bashir's air time I am liking the show a whole lot more. Now all they have to do is get rid of the pregnacy storylines and have the men grow some balls and the show will be on its way to greatness.

I must admit I really didn't care for Firefly when it aired on Fox but watching the reruns I've grown to appreciate it greatly.

Also is it me or has the chick who plays Tala(sp) on SG:Atlantis let herself go. She looks all fat in the stomach and not fat like pregnet but fat like eating too many Ho Hos.

In terms of abilities and danger the Ori and their people sure seem more capable than the Goa'uld, but much more boring. The priors don't seem the type to be dressing up in ridiculous outfits and trading insults with Mitchell.

Another thing regarding SG1 as a whole: considering all the cast changes throughout the years and various missed episodes for characters, is Teal'c the only one who hasn't missed any episodes?

I quite liked Atlantis tonight. The Ford/McKay bits were great. About his new status Ford said something like "This is the best thing that's ever happened to me." At least as far as a character goes, I've got to agree he's a lot more interesting this way.

Galactica I haven't caught yet. 3 straight hours of sitting in one seat watching TV is a bit much for me.

The Orii suck. I thought the Wraith were a weak attempt, the creaters of the shows have deadended. The Oriis are just a one trick poney show that should have had at best a 2 parter assigned to them. I would rather see the G'ould return versus these creeps. At least the G'ould had personality.

GOD damn SG1 was sweet. I seriously cant wait till SGA and SG1's stories crossover. With the way they're setting up both series though man its great.

Off to watch SGA, and hope BSG gets done before i go to sleep. I hate not having cable anymore.

Given that we never explicitly saw the destruction of his flesh, I still hold out a small hope that Apophis somehow escaped death again and has been hiding out for the last few years.

I wonder how wide a net the Ori will be casting. Clearly they're making stops in the Milky Way galaxy, but what about Pegasus? Might they pester the Nox and Asgard, or will they stick to the various human-types? At any rate, I'm sure they've got some more interesting ideas than just blank guys in robes with telekinetic abilities to use in the near future...

I think it's a given that Apophis will show up. As far as the Pegasus system is concerned I would assume that the Ancients, the good ones, hide it's existence from the Orii as they did the Milky Way.

As far as SG:Atlantis I think the new guy is what the show should have had all along. No offense to Tela(sp), but as an alien she sucks, though a very attractive sucking alien.

SG-1 was great. Solid new enemy who hopefully is in it more than just for power. Ending wasn't smooth though.

SGA, I kinda like new ford.. I kinda don't. The runner guy is ok and hopefully his story thread is good.

BSG, great Kobol stuff, everything else so-so.

He's the standard by which all else must be judged!

Yeah, but they managed to learn about and go to Milky Way pretty quick, either by way of backtracking the communication device or reading Daniel's mind. I'd guess the latter, in which case they likely alread know about Pegasus and other important things. Or if they don't know already, all it would take is brief access to a classified computer or a good torturing of one in-the-know person to find out about it.

"Hey guys, we managed to get 2 minutes of Richard Dean Anderson... how can we shove it in without making it important to the story at all, or explaining what he's actually doing?"

They learned because Daniel told them about Earth. He never mentioned Atlantis or the Pegasus galaxy so they are still safe.

Great BSG episode tonight. I'm watching them unspoiled, so a "Hell Yeah" escaped my lips when
Adama showed up at Tigh's door
. :D

Yeah I really loved the episode. I'm watching it the second time while listening to the podcast and Moore loves spoiling episodes near the beginning (he gave away the end 8 minutes in). But if people are stupid enough to listen to the podcast while watching the episode for the first time they get what they deserve. :P

"What'd you think genius - you put a pilot in charge of crowd control"

The doctor is getting some choice lines....

BSG was fucking incredible as usual.

One of the things that really make the show good is that its, honestly, not really a sci-fi series. Its really a really well written drama/soap opera that just happens to take place in a futuristic sci-fi environment. It kinda reminds me of how back in the day I actually had teachers who followed Robotech just as much as I did. Where there is good sci-fi there, THAT isn't really what's keeping the show running and therefore keeps it from falling into the traditional sci-fi trappings.

I didn't catch the name of the SG-1 episode, but it should've been called "Fetch Quest". Vala makes for an interesting combination with Daniel, but it just seems too transparent that she's there to make sure the show isn't SG-Sausagefest while Tapping took some time off. Teal'c is mute again.

Atlantis I quite enjoyed. But I'm both a sucker for McKay, and for stories that have characters acting out of character in a non-hostile way. The subject didn't get to be played as much as SG-1's old "Holiday" episode, but hey.

Heh, yeah.
I'd just been wondering how much dough Olmos was getting for laying there with tubes strapped on all season. :) The ending, though... I actually sat forward and said "Jesus! They got us again! With the same damn trick!"

some of the vala/daniel dialogue was absolutely gold tonight :D

man, the more eps she is on, the more i want her to be the 5th member of sg-1 just for comedic reasons which is almost guaranteed not to happen :<

It's been a long time since I've watched a TV show and got that 'can't wait to see what happens next episode' feeling. Yet every week, without fail, I download the torrent of BSG as soon as it's made available at the appropriate places and every week I'm left wanting to see more and more.

The show is brilliant.
