Seems like most third-party developers will not support Switch 2

This isn't how publishers think. Console warriors care about sales relative to other platforms; publishers care about whether it's profitable to port a game to a certain platform. And profitability is about weighing the costs of development against expected sales. The Witcher 3 sold substantially more on PS4 and PC than Switch over its lifetime, but the Switch port was still profitable enough for CDPR to want to port Cyberpunk to the Switch 2 at launch.

Also, if I remember correctly, Hogwarts Legacy did very well on the Switch, and wasn't lagging dramatically behind versions of the game on other platforms.

During their last investor briefing, Nintendo reported 1.39 billion units of software sold, and that includes third parties. There aren't "billions of first party sales."

So, yes, 500 million is a lot.
I think you misunderstood my point. I'm not saying third party doesn't want to sell on S2, that's what OP is claiming, I'm saying S2 would survive on first party sales alone, but of course extra money from 3rd party sales is always a plus.

I wouldn't dream of buying 3rd party games for this (outside of indies), so a non-issue for me. But also not going to get the system until they release at least a couple of exclusives that just MUST play. Come on Nintendo, make me want your system.

I think they all have Switch 2 dev kits but threw them in the trash once they got the PS5 Portable dev kit, so now they are focusing on that. Nintendo will not get 3rd party games next year at all, that's it, the well has dried. Even if they sell 200m they will not get 3rd party games ever, it's done, they are doomed. Again.

Also clear the Xbox ROG Ally will sell twice as much as much if not 3 times as much or maybe 4 even as Switch 2, and Nintendo will eventually port all their games to it as well.

The Xbox ROG will sell as much as the Ally...which is not much.

I bought my Switch 2 for 1st and 3rd Party exclusives, same as with my Switch 1.

The exceptions to that rule might be things like the upcoming FFT Remaster and other games where graphical fidelity will look the same on all platforms.

That bodes terrible for Microsoft supporting Switch 2, they can't seemingly even be bothered to port over something they agreed 3 years ago in an agreement to port over. That just makes it clear that after that Cod port they are done with the Switch 2. I think the Xbox handheld means that they don't want to do anything that makes the Switch 2 more attractive at the expense of their Xbox handheld, so no support to Switch 2 will happen beyond a lacklustre CoD port they will only make because Phil Spencer 3 years ago signed a deal with Nintendo that he has regretted ever since.
It's actually much bigger than that because Switch consoles are competing against Windows.
Most Switch games and Switch 2 games will run better on Windows via emulation than on native HW.
Emulation is a big selling point for Windows as the ultimate gaming platform and 100% of Nintendos games end up on PC.

They will get plenty of support from Japanese 3rd party developers. Bandai, Konami, Capcom, etc.

3rd party support from the West? Probably some late ports and not as supported as Sony.

And that's alright for me. I almost never play western games anyways. Full of politics and social issues. I play games to have fun not be reminded of the real world.

I get waiting for a bigger userbase, but if third parties are waiting for Switch 2 users to outnumber Switch 1 users then that's waiting far too long.
Unless you're Nintendo there's no logical reason to.
You can't make a game for Switch 2 without undercutting your Switch 1 sales.
Switch 1 games will work and sell to Switch 2s with no extra work.
Switch has almost the same number of consoles in the wild as the PS2 and they can all buy games online.

Nintendo made Switch 2 to prevent a hypothetical situation where Switch 1 users end up leaving for some other handheld with better specs.
The reality is that as long as a console keeps providing new 3rd party games for users they'll never stop buying games on old HW.

/thread?? oohoohoohoo

At the moment I'd say the Japanese support and Western support look pretty similar.

''Lack of devkits'' just seems like cope. It reminds me of how we all thought Switch 1 would get strong third party support after the install base got higher and still everyone just continued skipping Switch.
Switch 1 got strong third party support, it just didn't get most western AAA but even Sony and MS published on it lol

I guess people here have very short memories...

3rd party floodgates will open up later this year and Nintendo wants to be in control of doing the major announcements. Look forward to a June/July Direct and later a September/October direct. The system litterally just launched 5 days ago. Give the launch titles room to breathe (i.e. play/sell)
I'm mostly looking forward to online F2P games updates, I don't like playing competitive shooters with controller and having another set of M&K in the couch is annoying, so Switch 2 looks way more comfortable for that
