Sega accidentally leaks sales numbers for several games: P3R 2.07m, Y7 2.86m, LAD:IW 1.66 mill, P5R 7.25m

Sales numbers don't seem wild but they're obviously doing something right with their videogame business (be careful not to mistake 'gaming' in their reporting as this refers to gambling. "Entertainment contents" = the videogames).

If I'm interpreting their slides correctly - in the last decade their videogame business has gone from barely registering profitability for years to being the most profitable area of the company by far. There's been steady growth and it has done well enough to basically absorb the decline in the pachinko sector and offset the complete destruction of their amusement business.

Yes they aren't pumping out 10 million sellers but they're succeeding on their own terms as a company.

When you look at that pachinko decline it's also clear why Konami decided to get more involved in the videogame business again.

Sonic Frontiers at 4,5 million now? That's another million since Sega announced it was the best selling 3D Sonic game ever. A great result! High hopes for the sequel.

Expecting a Sonic game to put up Mario numbers is laughable.
4.5 million is respectable - especially considering the up and down history of the franchise.

Those are very good numbers for Yakuza series, Persona and pretty darn good for SMT. Folks forget that these games used to sell in hundreds of thousands vs millions. Yakuza studio used to make a decent living selling those games mostly in Japan and some in Asia. These games aren't made in CA over 8 year period, the budgets are a lot more modest. Even Sonic, at 4-5 mil, those games are likely decently profitable.

That said, Persona 6 dev must be just burning cash considering super long dev time on that.

I wonder if they ever managed to regain trust with the community

I love RTS but I could never get into these games for some reason

I really want to see new Medieval or Empire game, but it looks like they are going to go fantasy/Sci-Fi route after these numbers, which is unfortunate. And the way Sega dropped support of Three Kingdoms is super frustrating, similar to what Paradox did with Imperator, but at least unlike Three Kingdoms the latter didn't sell at all.

Unrelated to Sega but if you want to talk abysmal one if the most shocking sales figures I've seen in recent times is Astrobot on the PS5. 2.3m copies sold as of March 2025. Unbelievable for a AAA game heralded as a possible mascot figure for SCE.

Makes some of those Sega figures very suddenly look very healthy in comparison.

I'm surprised Warhammer 3 sold less than 3 kingdoms. The Warhammer trilogy usually has the most legs and failure users.

Maybe Warhammer 3 lackluster launch killed lots of sales.

So would be curious to see Warhammer 2s numbers must be way higher .

Yakuza is quite niche, despite each release since 0 leading to claims it had broken into the mainstream.

Still, if they can make a profit on those figures, that's amazing. More publishers should look at their model.

I would imagine that Three Kingdoms sold most in China. But I also think that by Warhammer 3, there was already a bit of "Warhammer fatigue". That's at least why I didn't buy it.

I've recently heard that Paradox' grand strategy games (Hearts of Iron, Europa Universalis, Crusader Kings, ...) are selling more in China than in Europe.
