SEGA considered Dreamcast Mini a few years ago

It would probably sell more units than the original did. On a serious note, You would think Saturn original would come first.

Lol people still clinging to this hope, sega couldn't even manage saturn because it's not cost effective you think they would be able to pull off the dreamcast and be able to have it sell well at a suitable pricepoint in line with the other console minis.

The pricing is always going to be an issue and if they charge too much (like 200-300 dollars) people won't go through it since you're better off looking for a used real console.

I'd rather they re-release their PC ports on Steam. Daytona USA, Virtua Cop, Manx Tt Superbike, and House Of The Dead all got PC ports.

And same for consoles.

It is easy money, you make "Dreamcast Collection Series" with a lot of Dreamcast games, just need to improve the resolution at 4K or even 1080p whatever, 1 or 2 scaliness options and here we go I'd buy all of them.

They also have a "SEGA SHOP" if they release a Dreamcast wireless controller for PC and modern consoles I'd instabuy it. Yes I loved the Dreamcast controller.

Virtua Cop and House of the Dead need light gun action. I am also pretty sure those were originally Saturn releases.

I still do not get the love for Dreamcast. The best it received was quality PS1 era ports and arcade ports. All the worthwhile first party releases on it have been ported to death. How many copies of Sonic Adventure and Space Channel 5 do you need? At this pont in time, you can probably use your phones with Flycast emulator to have a Dreamcast Portable.

It really shouldn't be that hard to do, even 64GB of flash storage can be had for next to nothing now. I guess they figure if the hardware costs are more than $5. LOL

If you want to play Sonic Adventure, which would have been on a Dreamcast Mini, then play it this way on PC to fix the awful port and turn it back from the poor port of a port DX into an improved OG Sonic Adventure:

Note: video is 6 years old, so improvements have been made since then. You don't need to use BetterSADX with the Steam version - I recently installed with SADX Mod Manager because it allows for easier individual mod updates (which still happen)

Yeah most Dreamcast games are playable elsewhere and in superior form. Even if it wasn't perfect, I would choose the Shenmue 1 remaster any day for the fact its load times are cut, JP voice track is in, and other QoL features that had been added like saving anywhere. DC version is much more frustrating either way. I'd choose SA2 HD, Virtual On 2 HD and Rez 4k over the original releases too.

I struggle to make a good list of DC Mini games. Crazy Taxi? Licenses. Virtua Tennis? Licenses. Ferrari, MSR; same story. Soul Calibur 1 is novel, but I rather see a game like this ported to current-gen with online play. CvS2 would be good (dual company agreement), but no online and terrible controller so whats the point. I much rather have CvS 2 HD Online on PS and Xbox as well. I don't know what would fly, its different from 16-bit timeless 2D.

I want Dynamite Cop, Roomania, Sakura Taisen, Skies of Arcadia. They have also brought some 3rd party titles to their other mini consoles which on Dreamcast there are plenty of good stuff not available on modern platforms.

Well, if they release the original version of Adventure and not the DX port, you'd automatically get the better game that you can't buy anywhere. Only way to restore it is mods.

Do you really think that a region-exclusive obscure title like Roomania would have a shot in hell of getting included on a mainstream collection like this. You are more likely to get Sega Bass Fishing and its sequel.

A retail release with a few mods is easy enough for anyone craving authenticity. Probably easier than setting up a Dreamcast emulator.

Do the Saturn first!
Yeah I would much rather they do a Saturn mini first. Saturn is a console I never got to experience in it's prime since me or anyone I played games with had one, so I would really like to explore it's library, and I really like these mini consoles.

Dreamcast mini would be great. I would be there day one, and purchase multiple units. I could imagine it coming in a small, orange box with the white spiral.

The ps1 mini [...] went pretty smoothly

I would say it's as much of a shot as Silky Lip on the Mega Drive Mini is.

They'd never make a Dreamcast mini with VMU displays in the controllers anyway, so fuck it. Play a real Dreamcast.

Touché.

I do not think VMUs are anything more than gimicky peripherals. I am guessing there are quite a few others that would also consider them unnecessary.

Sure, VMUs are unnecessary, but if you're going to make mini console hardware, you might as well give it the one hardware feature of that console that PC emulation won't.

NullDC actually emulates VMUs, but they use up screen space. While I understand your point of view, I usually don't look at my controller while playing.

Virtua Tennis, Power Stone 1 & 2, San Francisco Rush 2049 were my jam with my buddies back in the day. I still have my Dreamcast and all the games, but this would have been day-1 for me. I guess Sega doesn't like money!

Still one of my all-time favorite systems. I'd have no use for one since I've more or less completed my collection for the Dreamcast, but it'd be cool if people had an easy opportunity to check out some of the classics on that system. Those games - particularly the arcade stuff - have aged remarkably well.

Glad capcom could port power stone to the psp (complete with way worse textures) but not to consoles that could really support the multi-player

There are quite a few cool games locked to the dreamcast
Blue stinger, Illbleed ,project justice, star gladiator ,carrier ,red dog, shame is many are obscure and it would be a licensing nightmare
Saturn is really unfortunate as many incredible games are stuck there
Shining force 3, panzer dragoon 2 and saga, shining the holy ark, legend of oasis, dark savior, burning Rangers,

I have to wonder if a Shining Force 3 release, either remake, remaster or just a release in English would sell. I love the series. Seems like easy money for Sega.

Any Dreamcast mini needs a Dynamite Cop on it.

It's crazy to think how relatively cheap the Dreamcast was on launch. ($199)

Now, fans are willing to pay double that for a mini version?

Considering how well fire emblem has been doing , I'd imagine pretty well
Plus it comes preloaded with waifus to cover all sorts of weird fetishes , since that's all sega uses shining for these days
