for real, a region switch is about the last thing my perfect Genesis needs..i debated the overclock switch but looking at the list of games that'd benefit from it, it's not a big thing for me. region though, that's always awesome!

I always thought they changed the name to Sol Deace to allay the feces comparison in the west. Like how Soul Blader got changed to Soul Blazer :lol

Never got this name change on Sol Feace. I remember a friend explaining how much he liked the Mega CD game and the music, then we tried an emulator years later and he was like "Sol Deace?! And wtf happened to the music?!"

Hey, i know its a bit off-topic, but our own Sixteen-Bit is currently playing at EVO in Injustice, sends him lots of good luck this weekend! (or the Justice League Task Force OST to keep it Sega Genesis relative)

the real bitch is gonna be finding Revenge of Shinobi 1st edition,.

it's sad seeing people occasionally pay like $80 for it on ebay under completed listings.

I had to sell my first one, but got another one for $10. You can either play to a certain point or open the cart up and see what the MPR code says.

The problem is doing that on eBay. Unless you can get cooperative sellers willing to play the game for however long it takes, you'd probably have to buy and resell a lot of copies of Revenge of Shinobi just to tell.

How big are the differences between the versions really? I have this game, but have no idea which version it is.

I should try to dig out my first edition. Bought it shortly after getting my Genesis for Christmas 1989. Paid $64.99 at Toys R Us for it. :p It definitely had Godzilla, Terminator, Rambo, Batman and Spider-Man in it. My buddies and I at the time thought it was all a riot. I didn't realize until years and years later that Sega subsequently changed it out later on since I never played it outside that original cart even though I had it on the Sega CD pack in disc.

Unfortunately I have a feeling it was destroyed in a flood that hit my parents basement though.

see, that's the problem! when you find em at shops/garage sales/online etc you can't tell, and nobody wants to play to the 3rd or so level to tell me...which is, of course, a crime in & of itself

If you manage to find your game, it might be still be good. The insert and booklet are probably destroyed, as the cartridge sticker, but the board itself may still be fine. You may want to check it out for corrosion and clean it off flood dirt tough. Hell, even if it's completely rusted you could still desolder the ROM and put it on another board. Then you just have to get a cheap complete copy of a non-specific edition and swap.

i was lucky on nintendoage as a guy was willing to play it and was never aware of any differences before I asked him. He could have backed down or looked at what people are asking for these on ebay.

I believe they're easiest to identify if you open the cart. You can also at least tell a v1.0 or v.1.01 apart from a v1.02+ by the back of the cart assuming no one swapped the back. The earlier versions just have the three caution bullet points on the back, later carts included patent info on the back as well.

Holy shit. Just found this 27" beast at a Salvation Army for 10 bucks. No idea if it even works, I just jumped on it. It's a kv 27xbr55 in absolutely gorgeous shape. Wish me luck guys. I hope it works alright. I might not be able to get it home till Monday. Last Trinitron I picked up has gnarly geometry problems.

Does that TV have built in 2.1 or something? I just noticed those speakers stuck on the side.

Hell yeah it does!

It's all detatchable as well. That grill on the top of the set is actually a removable subwoofer! :D

I have never seen anything like this before. I couldn't find much looking up the serial number on my phone other than that the XBR line is apparently the super high end line for Sony.

You can't pick up a set like that without showing us the inputs!
I didn't get a chance to take any pics! It's still at the SA. When I get a chance to pick it up on Monday I'll take some of the back.

It's just a pain since I live half an hour away from the TV hahaha.

So I just bought a copy of Landstalker from a local used game place for $15, though it doesn't have the original case art. They gave me an empty authentic Sega black plastic case, which is nice though.

Here's my question. I've noticed on a lot of the red striped later Genesis games an odd... fading of the labels? Almost like the paper is oily and semi-transparent. It seems to be fairly common, and is not present on older games pre red-stripe. What IS that?

Im thinking these are some good candidates for the next high score challenge? Remember this is about just having fun / trying out new games / clearing out that backlog.

I was asked to post my Megadrive collection here in the SNES thread :p

Japanese games :

US/Pal games

Not shown is my Sega CD collection (rather modest, the few notables beeing SF CD and Dark Wizard, the rest is super common).

I've been trying to hunt down more games but boy is it super expensive now :(

I'm playing them on a JVC X'eye and a Japanese Megadrive first generation (I just love that blue reset buton)

I realise I have a few games not pictured but I just can't remember which ones (the Disney ones come to mind), also I have the boxes and manuals for all those games!

I need to find more MEgadrive games, but here in Québec it's almost impossible, they were Nintendo fanboys :(

If Shadow Dancer isn't chosen I will sic Yamato on you.

Well I'm embarrassed.

I saw a local ad on craigslist, just posted sometime last night.

Collection of almost 130 Genesis games, most in boxes w/ manuals, a genesis, a megadrive, and some complete Sega Saturn games..

225 dollars or best offer.

"Waaaaaaay under resale value"

Anyway, the way it was worded, it sounded like a Sega enthusiast wanting to sell off his personal collection.

I was really excited thinking here was my chance to build up my collection in one fell swoop, at very nice price.. I imagined a local enthusiast looking for a quick couple hundred bucks to make way for a new baby or something..

Well anywhoo, I finally get a hold of the guy, I ask him to start listing off the games, and it's "Caeser's Palace, Jeopardy, Madden, Taz, Sonic Spinball, another Jeopardy, Taz, Sonic 2, Football, football, gameshows, football, gambling, football, TAZ, more football" ..

That's not an exact quote, but close enough.

My enthusiasm dropped like a rock.

No one wants to spend 200 dollars on heaps and heaps of garbage.
Seems he's selling this for someone else, as he didn't really know what games there were until he opened the box.

I told him to send me some pictures anyway, but geez. I'm deflated.

I started playing Hard Corps for real yesterday (American version of course!) and it rules so much. I'm going for a 1cc, and while the game's pace was making me game over laughably fast, I feel like I'm starting to get the hang of it. I'm still trying to decide on a character. This game is the busiest damn thing.

Hahahaha welp. Sounds like the stuff you'd find in a bargain bin, except maybe even worse. Not sure what you were expecting, though, mind you. It was unlikely to have a lot of gems (or any) for that price.

IIRC Brownie is the way to go since he has the smallest hit box.

So a guy told me about this south-asian mega drive that plays both pal, japanese and genesis games without modifications, did anybody hear about this? How does it work with the 50hz/60hz stuff?

Brownie's yoyo is ridiculous damage too, bosses seem to go pretty quick to him. He very well could be the best, but the jumping is weird to me and I might have more fun with Fang's weapons.

And thus you enter into the infinite circle of turmoil and indecision that is Contra Hard Corps.

Nothing like playing a cyborg werewolf with a gun arm. They don't make awesome like they used to.
