How can anyone play Landstalker nowadays? I mean, the story isn't bad, the music is good, but its boring. Its boring, and isometric views suck, and its grindy if you don't wanna have a bad time in the 2nd half of the game.

I'll give it a shot sooner or later. If people can still play DQ1 though...anything is possible.

Well, no good on my Mega Amp board. I blew it! Little contact came up on the left channel, and while I thought I had re-connected it from the trace, no dice. One channel Genesis!

Oh well. Good practice soldering for me, and I'm only out $25 for the Amp board.

Aw man, that's unfortunate. What exactly went wrong?

The trace on the board came loose and pulled up when I soldered a wire to it. I think my iron isn't hot enough or clean enough for that delicate kind of work. I believe the right channel works flawlessly though! Oh well. I might attempt it again in the future.

Oh well! Learning experience.

Oh, side note. If anyone with an XRGB is experiencing jailbars, switch the image processing mode. I've discovered that my V6 has SEVERE jailbars in Picture mode, which is what my other systems run well in. Swapping it to Normal, they go away completely. So strange.

There's a legit one on ebay for 200$, probably 170$ or so through best offers.

I had no idea the game was that expensive, I used to see it all the time for cheap in Paris.. damn :(

The JP version is much more sought after as it's 60hz. I actually used the "make offer" on that specific auction for Alien Soldier before you even posted, thinking $150 would be a great deal considering I'm expecting it to rise in price over the next 18 months. I never expected the seller to just accept it...but he did. Woah. I am going to own a legit genuine copy of Alien Solider. This makes me seriously consider rounding out a full Treasure collection on the Genesis. Will post pictures when it arrives.

PC Alien Soldier is also 50hz I hear, so that's a bummer. I think the cheapest way to play the 60hz version is the Sega Ages Treasure Box on PS2, assuming yours can play Japanese games.

It's also on VC, where I assume it's the Japanese version (maybe incorrectly). I opted for PS2 though, better control options and all those Sega Ages bonuses.

Yep, as my Genesis model 2 can't detect any game I put on it now(as there is no signal being displayed), time for a new Genesis, hopefully a model 1.

I have a japanese Megadrive model 2 lying around somewhere. I don't need it since I only use my JVC X'eye (the US version of the Wondermega 2)

But it will have trouble with US and PAL games though.

By the way, before I go in on soldering a new fuse:

Anyone see anything wrong with my Sega CD model 2 board?

I've never seen a board for the system, so not sure if some of that "discoloration" on the chips or some of the residue(?) looking stuff on the smaller chips is normal over time type buildup or what. Didnt seem to have any actual corrosion or anything.

Everything looks fine from what I can see. I believe the fuse is marked f301 at the bottom of the picture. Its been awhile since I've done one so you probably want to double check.

Now I wish I had Japanese games, but I won't be getting those anytime soon.=p

It is. I've been researching the hell ( actually just watching various youtubes and checking forums) on how to fix it, so hopefully thats all thats wrong.

Also not sure if you got my PM about the PSone mod, but I might have to wait a little on that if thats no problem.

So after a month or so of abandonment (even though it's not a long game), I returned to Lunar tonight. It's funny because I left it at nearly the end of the game, but I tend to get scatterbrained with these things unfortunately (plus just me dealing with some personal frustration at not being able to advance my game room development faster).

Anyway, back to the game, I completed the first half of the Black Dragon Cave and the Talon Mine tonight. I hope I can finish up in the next couple of days because I really want to play Popful Mail, which I just got in the.. mail.

I'm consistently amazed at the pacing of Lunar, it's incredible.

If you're not getting any power at all then its almost guaranteed to be a fuse issue. Otherwise it could be a lot of other things.

I did get your pm, but don't remember if I replied. I've had a bunch of stuff going on lately so it would be a bit before I could take on any work anyway. Feel free to pm me when you want to have it done and if I can I'll be happy to. I actually have the stuff here to program my own ps1 chips.

I need to bite the bullet on Alien Soldier. It's pretty much the last game I need to have all the Treasure releases ever.

awesome to hear man! yeah Lunar 1 is one of those great fast & sweet RPGs, just quick combat & not too terribly padded either. like Suikoden 1, it feels like it respects your time, prolly why i've beaten both so many times.

2 of course is quite a bit longer & WD put some mean stuff in there as far as saving/etc but it's an absolutely fantastic game.

So, good friend of mine who also works at a video game store just shot me a text. They got something in he knew i would want first dibs on. CIB Centy. I really don't have the money, then i asked what the price was. Said he'd get back to me tomorrow after research, but said i get first pass once priced. I was sad to know that it would likely not happen, but i appreciated the thought.

Then he tells me "Oh, i already asked, they'd be cool doing a layaway/installment thing for this big of an order, since we all dig you and you do good by us"

In 2014, how do all of the Genesis top-down action RPGs shake out now, anyway? I figure that Light Crusader probably has the same issues with an isometric display as Landstalker does, but it is a Treasure game, and then there's Crusader of Centy, Beyond Oasis, Landstalker. Probably an early EA DOS port or two that isn't great. Is there a consensus on the best Genesis/MD action RPG? Monster World IV is obviously an excellent action RPG, but that's a side-scroller.

i don't know if id lump top down (crusader kinda, oasis) with isometric - even then, people still love some of the latter, like Super Mario RPG. i think some form of shadowing to indicate jump distance/etc can go a long way though.

What exactly is it?

Crusader Of Centy was a VERY late release for the Genesis, published by Atlus of all people, that is a pretty solid action rpg (which ties in well with the discussion above me)

It also happen to be the one of, if not the most expensive Sega Genesis release out there. The main difference between it and MUSHA is that
A) One came out early in the console life cycle as oppose to the other that came out when the Genesis was basically in the ground and
B) Well just the carts arenty crazy hard to get, complete in box is pretty tough. Musha came in a nice clamshell. Centy came in cardboard. So a lot less of those have survived the years.

MUSHA is pretty rare(just like a lot of other very underrated early Genesis shmups that don't go for nearly as much). But yeah, I have never come across a Centy cart in the wild. Like, ever. I wasn't even aware of it's existence until the 00's when I started noticing the oddly high prices for some strange Zelda-ish RPG. And I was pretty knee deep into Genesis all the way up until the end. The production run on that one had to have been just a few thousand.

Why not get the UK version of centy - Soleil? It's cheaper and iirc runs full speed on an NTSC machine.

Somebody gave me a copy of Crusader of Centy years ago, he just said "you can have this."

PS: Zelda is not an RPG.

Nice that's very fortunate considering the going rate for that game.

Oh shit I thought you were anti-collector mentality. Do you own Gaist Crusher, Dragon Drive, et. al?
