^I hate that goofy arranged SF2 music in the SNES version. It looks a hell of lot better than the Genesis one though. Uh-oh, we talking about ancient ports of SF2 and u know how I feel about that.
Thanks! The retro basement is almost complete, I'll have some pics up soon.Congrats on the house.
I would happily live in my Framemeister.

I just wish the dungeon was more varied.
Vega's theme sticks out like a sore thumb, I mean, wow, it sounds amazing on Genesis, but on SNES, yeah...^I hate that goofy arranged SF2 music in the SNES version. Other than what has been said about SitD already, I would recommend Phantasy Star IV. It's much more streamlined and less grindy/old-school (in fact, it aged perfectly fine), and while I know you said you didn't mind this, unless you want these things then I'd certainly recommend PSIV. One of the best 16-bit RPGs, IMO. The sci-fi/fantasy mix gives it a truly unique atmosphere.Hey guys, what are your thoughts on Shining in the Darkness? I'm craving a Genesis RPG right now - the only one I've played is Phantasy Star 2 a few years ago.
I've never played a Shining game (Though I have Shining Wisdom ready for when my Saturn RGB cable arrives), and would like to start at the beginning. I know SitD is a lot different from the Force games, but I tend to like old RPGs, so dated combat/grinding doesn't bother me.
Thoughts? The game isn't outrageously priced from CiB...
Can you get brasso at a normal supermarket?
Always bothered me how he was reaching his spatula into the grill only to stop halfway to do his fist-pump instead.
Amazing the weird controllers they came up with back in the day. Think these two have a bit of an identity crisis. Saw the Competition Pro at a thrift and figured it was Genesis at first glance but when I got it home realized it was an SNES controller. Then you got the SG Pro Pad which is quite the rip of an SNES design.
I had the 3DO version of that SG pro pad but it's black and had all 6 buttons. Crap controller.
I'm curious about the competition pad. I've seen the JP version (branded Honeybee) before. How is it?
also yay Gen-16!
Ok. Just polished the hell out of biohazard battle with brasso. Then swabbed with alcohol.

God damn is that terrible. Assuming that this video isn't some emulator fuckery, this is pretty emblematic of the "cheap 1st-gen MIDI synthesizer" quality that lower-end SNES music tends to exhibit.Listen to Balrog's music for example.
Generation 16 - Episode 013 is now live!
seriously, im here F5'ing and nothing
today's arrivals: Frogger 2, Immortal, Road Rash, Lost Vikings, Feng Shui Hu Zhuan Yun & hopefully a 1.0 Revenge of Shinobi...it was <$5 so if not i guess i have an extra
Fantastic! I've really been looking forward to this one.
I flew through your entire series in a flash when I first discovered it. It's extremely well put together, and a great watch.
It's even tuned me in to parts of the catalog I wasn't familiar with, which has been a pleasant surprise!
I can credit Generation 16 with re-igniting my love for the platform, and nudging me to get a system again.
I had not had one since the early 90's!
That is so great to hear. Hope you dig the latest episode.

Oh sorry if I phrased to contradict you. I kinda meant it in a humorous "oh no!!!" fashion. Genuinely appreciated your input. I wasn't sure I was doing any good at all while I was working on the game.Never said the game wouldn't work, just that the contacts now have no protection against horrible oxygen.
It shouldn't matter if you take care of it.
I'm thinking the next logical step is we figure out what substance is appropriate to recoat the contacts with.. at my work we sell some pretty absurd substances that I'm pretty sure are like liquid metal for metal embossing.
Six-button controller arrived.
This DPad is so much better than the one on all three of the three-button controllers I own, it isn't even funny. $10 well spent.
You should also be able to enter in the level select code in Sonic 3. I dunno, maybe it's just me, but I had a hell of a time getting that to work as a kid, and I suspect a shitty d-pad was to blame. It's sad that I've had this console since, like, 1994 or something (I got Sonic 3 with it, so it had to be around then), but am only now getting a controller with a good DPad, twenty years on.
It is always possible to get a dud. I got a copy of Grind Stormer at a flea market for $2 last summer and the cart wouldn't work no matter what I tried. I eventually swapped the chips onto another PCB I had from a crummy sports game and got the game to go that way. I believe that was related to Tengen using some bad PCB's on some of their later releases as I also have a copy of Gauntlet IV from Tengen that doesn't work.
Do any games actually use the Mode button for an in-game function? I know that it's possible, considering how Contra Hard Corps includes it in its button test.
yeah, i grew up with the 3 button pad so i've a fondness for it, but i gotta admit, using the 6 one now i rarely revisit it. played the shit out of the 3 button arcade stick though
didn't even think that'd work, but that's pretty cool! glad to hear those games can be saved, and fuck, congrats on Grind Stormer for that amazing price!
Fatal Fury 2 uses it as the taunt button.
I mean you gotta be feeling persistent. Had to desolder both chips which is a bit of a pain. I just figured at that price point I gotta get it going haha.
