I kind of want this game in Japanese just for the cover. I'm afraid I would understand nothing though.

Have you played Mr. Bones yet?

You should play Mr. Bones.

You need to play Mr. Bones.

Play Mr. Bones.
I have not.

I should?

I need to?

Well okay then.

I remember its existence, but never really bothered to look too deeply into it, other than there being some autoscrolling sections and really bizarre music minigames.

I went to a local game store after taking my daughter to the Nutcracker, and bought myself a few games: Mario Kart Wii, Omega Boost, and Shadow Squadron for the 32X. I came very close to buying the 6-button Sega joystick, but I told myself, "Leynos, you don't have any money, or a way to hook up your Genesis to your computer monitor. Knock that shit off." But I am a sucker for a (perceived) deal, so I bought a boxed copy of Shadow Squadron even though I don't have a 32X yet, or a way to play the damn thing. I was even looking at how to get RGB out of the 32X, then how to convert it to composite, or HDMI.

What am I doing? I'm poor, and still have a few gifts left to buy.

Time to play Omega Boost...

Natively.

then how to convert it to composite

That sounds awful, unless you meant component. If so, this. It doesn't upscale, just sends a super clean 240p signal to your TV so it's great for CRTs but will still be shit on LCDs.

I don't think there's a good way to do this outside of a Framemeister, which still adds input lag and, when combined with the input lag of a modern TV, makes most stuff unplayable for me =[

Whoops, yes, I meant component, not composite.

I have a very nice hi-def Sony XBR CRT, but it is at my mother-in-law's house, and I'm getting divorced. I also have absolutely no place to put that monster where I'm currently living at so it will stay there for the foreseeable future. :(

I'm even contemplating just going out, and getting a Retron 5 to play some retro games on my PC monitor for the time being.

If you really can't afford much, get the scaler Mzo linked and get yourself a nice CRT from craigslist or goodwill to plug that into. The only thing you need for the 32x to put out RGB is a model 2 NTSC SCART cable which you can buy from retro gaming cables on ebay. Rocking RGB and scan lines for <$100

Edit: Oh I see you're in a rough patch there. Still this route seems cheaper than a Retron 5. Plus the HD CRT won't give you the thick scan lines.

If only it were that easy: I'm currently living in a room in my mother's house, and I have absolutely no room for a CRT.

Also, how would I get audio out of that adapter linked above? I only see video outputs, and, as an American, I am unfamiliar with SCART.

Edit: eh, this is all academic anyways, I don't have the money to spend on anymore games.

2nd edit: Can I pull audio out of the headphone jack of my model 1 if I have a 32X, and/or Sega CD hooked up?

I'd kinda like to check out Spot Goes to Hollywood on the Saturn at some point.

I dunno, I just like obscure-ish Saturn games.

The PSX/Saturn one at least is super fun. Maddeningly difficult later on in the game, but very fun.

Play Mr. Bones.

What in the world is Mr. Bones? I don't think I've ever heard of it.

Been working on my backlog and I just finished Monster World IV. Dragged a bit in spots but I really enjoyed it overall. I was playing the VC version on my CRT and now I'm kind of thinking of picking some more Mega Drive gems. I have access to the US and JPN shops.

I already have all the Phantasy Star, Shining Force, and Streets of Rage stuff along with Comix Zone. Not interested in the old Sonic stuff.

Wikipedia said:
One of Mr. Bones' most distinctive qualities is in it having very few levels which share the same style of gameplay; with only a few exceptions, almost every level looks and feels different from the rest. Some levels simply change the camera perspective, while others offer up their own distinct genre. The most common thread running throughout the game is that of an action/platform game with slight gameplay and viewing angle variations per level, but at times the styles diverge far more drastically, ranging from a music/rhythm game to a Breakout-style game to a game of memorization. Once a level has been beaten, the player can return directly to that level from the main menu anytime he/she chooses.

I never liked the game as it felt too disjointed, and none of the different gameplay styles felt very polished.

And, no, I would not buy that for a dollar.

Well, there's a bunch of Treasure games (Gunstar Heroes, Dynamite Headdy, Alien Soldier), Pulseman, I think Ranger X (Ex-Ranza) is on the JP VC, etc.

The Shinobi games aren't obscure by any means but they're all fun and unique in their own ways.

I'm getting a Retron 5 for XMAS and I'm going to use my HDFury to connect it to a gaming CRT monitor. Anyone else do this? I have some choice monitors as well as a Sony 960 for CRT needs.

I have a Neo Candy 29 for my arcade games but I've yet to build a proper hardware suite to mod my classic consoles for RGB.

Does the framemeister really add input lag? :( For the price I expected it not to.

And I'd play it over any zelda tbqh *sips tea*

Pour me some of that tea, my good fellow.

Beyond Oasis is my favorite action/adventure/RPG-lite out there. I really like that the combat system is much more robust than, say, any Zelda game that I've played. But then again, I may not be the best judge as I have yet to finish any Zelda game as they tend to bore me after an hour, or two.

not going to lie, just from a casual glance Crusader of Centy looked more appealing to me than any Zelda

It's a Saturn game by the creator of Ecco the Dolphin (closest genre it comes to is platformer, I guess) about a reanimated skeleton. It's not a great game, but it's one of those games that really needs to be seen. It takes the philosophy of games like Earthworm Jim 2 (where the focus was more on batshit insane levels than consistent gameplay) to the fullest extent, and it really is a sight to behold. The end of the first disc is a platforming segment in space while a disembodied voice talks about the blues between wailing guitar solos, and the penultimate stage is just about telling jokes. It's incredible.

EDIT: oh my god one of those jokes is the tomato joke from pulp fiction; greatest game ever made

Here is my tiny collection. This is my original HDG Genesis I got for Christmas 1991. Most of the games I've owned for years, but Aladdin and Street Fighter II SCE are recent re-additions to my library after I sold the originals years ago:

God damn, man, that's quality over quantity in that collection. Loving the boxed Konami stuff you got.

Thank you, although Castlevania and Contra are cardboard boxed versions, I'm still glad I have those in my collection. I remember picking those two up towards the end of the 16-bit era.

32X had a nice version of Space Harrier, but the Saturn and later 3DS releases easily outdo it thanks to 60fps.

I guess Virtua Racing Deluxe still hasn't been beat interms of content though.

I watched that last night, was fantastic. Especially like the part when they realized they didn't get the true ending without all the chaos emeralds.
You can get the Good Ending without all the Time Stones, though. Just break all the robot generators in every stage's Past variant.

In fact, it's how I usually do it, since I'm pretty awful at the Special Stages.
