just a heads-up: if i'm not around as much, it's partly being broke, mostly cause i got my Mega Everdrive going and holy crap it consumes you

Also due to new family members ;)

Also yeah the Ed's really do consume you, once you have all of yours games just a few clicks away you just kinda sit around jumping from game to game. so good.

Mega ED is the best one too, because of the save states. AND SWITCHING GAMES WITHOUT EVEN GETTING UP!
All the convince of an emulator but on real hardware.

Also full master system compatibility.

I'm holding off on the FM powetbase on the possibility of the mega ED emulating the Mater System FM.

I completed the rough cut of Generation 16: Episode 014 last night. It should be available this Saturday for those who have donated at least $5 on Patreon, and a week later for general consumption!

Haven't really gotten much time with Genesis in the last couple weeks but I kicked back and played some Rocket Knight last night. I'm so glad I set this whole thing up for myself over the summer. I had kinda forgotten about my Genesis set up a little bit but the moment was right and I plopped down in front of the CRT and it was perfect. We're so lucky.

RKA is so good. I feel like playing some tonight as well.

Hey anybody order any EverDrives from Retrogate in the last week or so? How long does it take to get shipping info? I've checked my spam and haven't seen anything. I'm trying to keep track of packages since it seems one of them (My PS4) got stolen recently.

I just received an e-mail from WaterMalon (the guys from Pier Solar):

Dear khaz,

You are receiving this email because you did pre-order either Pier Solar REPRINT, REPRINT_EP, Dreamcast, PC/LINUX/MAC, the strategy guide or the OST.

Once again, our apology for the lack of news. Sorry for the late news, we have been holding this newsletter until we had a definitive confirmation about the following:
The REPRINT/REPRINT_EP Quality Control process - which was biggest reason for delay - has been finalized last Tuesday. That means manufacturing has resumed and should end December 23th.
Please then allow one-to-two extra weeks before we can ship the games to you.

Regarding DREAMCAST, PC/LINUX/MAC or the Strategy Guide: those products are still in the making and will be shipped later, more details by email soon.
Please also remember that we don't need your shipping address yet, the pre-order system at magical game factory will ask your shipping address at the very last moment so no mistake or outdated input can be made.
For people worried about grouped delivery: You will decide of the shipping day yourself so you can either wait for all preorders to be ready (so we pack everything in the same parcel) or either get everything shipped separately.

As a patch on the wounds, we will supply you with additional Pier Solar goodies. We hope you enjoy it, and the game too! We have also preparing a extra surprise for XMAS.

Also, if you have to contact the costumer support, bear the extra delays, we are slowly answering support messages at the moment but all messages will be answered and every case handled individually.

http://www.magicalgamefactory.com/en/faq/contact-support_5/

We will keep you updated by email about the status of your preorder. Thank you for your understanding.

Best Regards,

WATERMELON TEAM

As I said before, this is probably the last reprint ever for this game, given how long it took to get reprinted (the preorder fulfillment was never attained iirc), so if you want to get this game in its original Megadrive medium, now is the time. Hopefully it will stop the stupid scalping we see on eBay for used copies, but we know it will start again once this last batch is sold out.

They will be missing the Christmas deadline, which is fine by me, because we know what a mess the postal services can be during this period (so many parcels lost/stolen).

Makes me wish I was the kind of person to buy a bunch now to sell later. But nope, I'll be fine with my one copy that I've been waiting for.

And afaik it's not possible to play it with an Everdrive. I kind of wish they released a working ROM once their stock is sold out, once they can't make any more money from the Megadrive version.

[edit] true, too many hurdles, It's just wishful thinking.

Seems a bit unlikely to happen, doesn´t it.

Releasing a working ROM would open the door to playing it on Genesis emulators on all kinds of systems (e.g. the Wii U through Wii HBC), where it could potentially cannibalize sales of the HD version. Don´t think those other platform holders would be pleased to see that happen.

Thanks for the heads up Khaz. I finally pulled the trigger on this thing. And the guide too.

No OST available though.

I've had a pre-order in for at least a year and a half it feels like at this point. Nice to see it finally coming to fruition.

Just got this in the mail.

So fucking kawaii. Look at his little Sonic cartridge.

Thing is out for a few days then they announce a Genesis version (and different Sonic cart art).... Should have been announced from the beginning.
Good for those who missed out but annoying for those that didn't and wanted this version in the first place!

Also a lucky draw gold version with Bare Knuckle cart for those with deep wallets.

Extra stuff is cool, but I never got an email saying anything about the Dreamcast version :(

This looks cool but I don't like the purple accents. They should have saved that for SNES.

Turns out retrogate just hasn't gotten around to shipping my Mega ED. Apparently orders exceeded supply by quite a lot.

Waiting, yeah, it sucks.

Extremely easy! Here are some pictures from August back when I did the same:

The only basic watch out is to be organized. Lots of small pieces you don't want to lose.

I recently cleaned all my NES controllers. Generally I'd say it was a success.

But some of them that I thought would become much more responsive, simply didn't (perhaps a bit, but not very noticeably)

The black pads on the underside of the buttons also never seemed to stop producing black gunk on moist cotton swabs. But I didn't want to rub them too much as I thought I might be peeling away an important layer or something.

So yes, I'm wondering, is it safe to rub the black pads on the underside of the button rubber? And will they ever stop producing black stuff or is that part of the pad that's being worn away?

One other question. Concerning the PCB board, and cleaning that. Well, if the buttons are all clean and the contact pads on the rubber look okay, is it the PCB board that's responsible for buttons that may not be as responsive as others? I mean they don't seem too dirty, but on one or two controllers, I busted out a little bit of this polish, and wiped it just a bit, a ton of black came off, and it generally looked better, but I didn't want to peel away anything important, so I didn't clean it too much with that.

Would it be okay to take that polish to the contact areas on the PCB board and gently wipe until it stops producing black material?

And if I did clean the PCB board thoroughly with this, would it become more, or less effective? (not wanting to wipe away any important layers)

Christmas, I guess.

Yeah, well I finally got shipping info! OMG, I'll finally be able to play Centy, Bare Knuckle 3, and good homebrews on my genny!

Hmmm... you might try cleaning the contacts of the plug that goes into the system. Get some comtact cleaner (sold in automotive shops) or high percntage alcohol and pour/ spray it into the plug. Make sure you concentrate on the metal pins. Then repeatedly and quickly plug and unplug the controller in and out of the socket on the main system.

Obviously you want to do this when there is no power to the system.

The black stuff that keeps coming off is the thin gold layer that keeps the copper on your PCB from corroding when it touches air.

You could wipe it all off if you really wanted to.

Least damaging way of cleaning, in my experience, has been using an art eraser to rub off dirt and corrosion, brushing off the debris, then wiping it down with some rubbing alcohol. I haven't had to do it to anything twice.

I'm also using an eraser to clean my cartridges. It doesn't make them look brand new, but it removes all the skunk, grease and dirt that stuck over time and made faulty contacts. It's the safest way imho.

I don't know what to do about the rubber contacts though. I found some in some of my controllers to be very stiff and unresponsive. I clean them as good as I can without products and massage them to give them some elasticity back, but I don't know what more to do to rejuvenate them. I read about using plastic care product, with some people saying it's fine and other saying it will dry the rubber and make it break, just like Vaseline on a condom.

Are there any Everdrive-MD v3 users up in here that also have a Sega CD?

I just bought one but I'm having an issue where the Everdrive can't read the SD card when my Sega CD is attached. If I disconnect the Sega CD, it works fine. I also posted on Krikzz's forum but was hoping somebody here might know the deal.

Doesn't read the SD at all or just specific roms?

I know massive roms like that Bad Apple video won't work with a Mega CD attached. Something about the higher addresses reserved by the addons or something.

[edit] nevermind I saw the thread on krikzz.com. it seems a code update is needed.

[edit2] Ooooh, browsing that forum, did you guys see this? First network game for Mega EverDrive; Video
