Sega Genesis/MegaDrive Appreciation Thread: Alien Storm > Golden Axe

I absolutely love Snatcher. It was the first game I replayed when I got my Framemeister and RGB cable.

It's surprising that the voice acting still holds up so well considering voice acting in general in the early (and even late) 90s was usually pretty terrible.

Snatcher is pretty great. Still play that one every so often.

Another Sega/Mega CD game that actually has surprisingly good voice acting from that era is Dune. The VA is a bit understated and reserved, but really good.

I will say, though, that the Insector fight near the very end of Act 3 can get bent. (How exactly am I supposed to shoot five of those things at the same time?)

I'll have to replay it sometime. I never got to see the renowned Neo Kobe Pizza scene.

Purposefully play crapping during the 1st act. Makes the late game shooting easier.

Now that I no death Shinobi 3 it's time to no death Revenge of Shinobi, I have Revision 2 which seems to be the most common one.

I don't think they're expensive, at least the blue one. The pink Justifier (Player 2) can be pricey, since I believe it was mail-order only.

ah, didn't know that! wish i could find a cheap blue one at least. PVM's a little small for 2 player gun games, haha

Now that I'm about to receive my copy of Pier Solar soon, does anyone have a nice image I could print on a CD to make my own Enhanced Soundtrack Disc?

they totally put out the actual laser image (i forget what file that is?) just for this purpose, lemme see if i can't find it online and if not ill dropbox you man

The pink Justifier is also universal since it plugs into a port on the blue gun and not into the console. Works on Genesis and SNES.

There was also some sort of a two gun bundle at some store (Wal-Mart?) since that's how I got my copy of the game with two guns. I can't even remember how it was bundled together, I think it was just shrinkwrapped to the (awesome) giant Lethal Enforcers box.

yeah, looks like a blue justifier can be had for @ $20 which isn't bad, but damned if i don't want that giant Lethal Enforcers box too

You can buy any genesis repro with box and manual for 18$ shipped now.

They're extremely cheap thanks to Kryxx (can't remember the proper spelling) releasing a self rom burner for 50$

This is equally awesome and horrible at the same time. Is there a way to differentiate, or is the second-hand market in for headaches? I'm down for MUSHA that isn't $200, but still.

Today/next week I'll be buying SMD. Finally. I never had SMD.
So which games are real must have?
I am going to buy:
Shadow of the Beast 1&2, Turrican, Syndicate, Sensible Soccer, Strike trilogy (bought Urban Strike few h ago), Streets of Rage, Sonic games, Gods, Cannon Fodder, Mega-lo-Mania.

What's else, GAF? I am in region Pal and likes almost everything expect sport games (SS is my only sport love from teenage years).

They're all Japanese round cartridges. Even the ones with American covers.

Pier Solar while there is still stock.

[edit] You have an interesting choice of games here. You should buy an Amiga and get the superior versions of half the games in your list.

I had and sold Amiga 500 almost 20 years ago. Unfortunatelly.
Currently, I prefer consoles, than computeres, so I want to buy SMD.

Those are not Genesis shells.

While the one I linked uses 32x like cart shells, you can easily request genesis shells from Ali sellers (for a small premium). They wil look like this :

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00I2SIHFC/

But more importantly, you can buy a genesis rom burner :

http://shop.retrogate.com/FlashKit-programmer-MD-PROG-MD.htm

And blank PCBs :

And start selling "rare" games with "slightly damaged" labels for quite a profit.

You can also prey on the lack of knowledge of many collectors with those shells which were very common in asia :

These cheap Chinese ones are likely to be easy to spot for any seasoned collector - the sticker, manual and insert simply won't be up to snuff. Genesis games are also easy to open to check the PCB (as are MD games but you ruin the back sticker).

Agree that you can't simply buy blind anymore which is a shame. It unfortunately seems that bootleggers will continue to destroy the hobby - just hope that it never gets as bad as the Neo Geo scene.

Back sticker on MD carts?

(or are you referring to Japanese Mega Drive games?)

Then again I won't have any problems buying Eliminate Down, Battle Mania 2 or Gleylancer from them. Because fuck paying 1700$ for all 3 of them

Man, what caused Hyperstone Heist to jump in price so much? Just a couple years ago it was about $40 for a CIB copy, now they're hitting over $100 a pop. It's not like Mike Matei did a video or anything...

If you want to play Snatcher legit, you could always just buy and resell it.

That's how I look at expensive games. Same with PD Saga. You most likely pull even or even make profit.

Unless you want to keep it. Then you'll need to bite the bullet.

My heart. Every time I think of letting my copy go so cheap, it kills me inside.

who knows anymore. All it really takes is a few high priced BIN auctions selling on ebay to start a snowball.

You won't have any problem buying any games from them then, since they're all bootlegs.

Pretty much. The problem is that sellers don't take into account condition so a couple of mint copies suddenly sets a baseline for beat to shit copies as well.

I always wondered if there was a place to get repro cardboard boxes for games. It'd be cool to just be able to toss my real carts back in a box and not have to worry about the expense and logistics of plastic shells that need covers printed.

I blame Back in My play.

Just kidding lol... or am I?

Can someone here help me out with something?

I need a picture of a power base converter in a genesis 1 from the back.
