despite having them all nearly at launch in the day (1 aside), i don't have manuals for any of the 4 Phantasy Stars...sadness. anyone know of any cheap options? ebay is ehhh

Oh, OK. Are microswitched levers considered better?

for classic sticks? ymmv

I really feel i should invest in all these fancy, tech-side upgrades to make my Genesis look its nicest. Only thing i've done is S-Video mod my Model 1

Just got a Gen 1. Need a controller. What are the thoughts on MK-1653 vs SJ-6000? Would the SJ-6000 even work on my American Genesis?

MK-1653 is the best controller I've used for the Genesis. Longer cord, more compact, better d-pad, better buttons. It is very close to Saturn quality I'd say. I haven't used the one you are comparing with though.

I agree. I use MK-1653 controller as well and love how the d-pad feels.

Got my copy of Sacred Line in the mail today. I splurged and got the limited edition, I only ordered it last week but it's already made it to me up in Canada!

Not sure if I'm going to open it and see what number I got though...

Oh man, opening a brand new Genesis game is such a TRIP. I knew pretty much what I was getting into with the purchase of Pier Solar, but actually snapping into the packaging and seeing how well everything is made absolutely rocks.

phew, that takes me back...looking at it now, the soccer game, thunder force II and maybe one or two SMS games are the only ones i don't have, haha

shit, for real? what model system do you have? also hit up the WM forums if anything!

I've got a V6, it has the TMSS, but good sound hardware. It's definitely the oldest system I own, so there could very well be something funky going on in there. Still though, everything else I have runs with no problem.

I ordered mine last night can't wait. Sorry to here about your issue. When I placed my order I did see a little blurb that it might be incompatible with some mega drive 1 and genesis 1 systems. A quick search on there site and I found this.

I think your link is broken.

But yes; I'd read all the materials about the affected systems and technically I don't have one. Even if I did, a reset should fix my issue, and it does not.

There's absolutely no reason it shouldn't be running on the console. They couldn't have fucked this up any worse than they did.

Well, shit. My Pier Solar isn't booting, even when I hit reset.

Go through the support on their site. That is what I did for my missing screws and got that issue solved. Like at the bottom of any of their pages hit the support button and submit a ticket.

Yeah, I really hate to get on them hard since I'm happy that they even made a new Genesis game and put out his last reprint, but there have been so many problems with it that it's crazy. Especially after the long ass wait and all the delays for QC.

Nice, they locked my topic and told me to post in the main thread about the reset glitch. Super helpful. It seems like nobody is noticing that I keep saying resetting my console does nothing.

Can't get anyone from the company to take notice of my support ticket either.

Aaaaaaaaaand it's my system.

I just tried the cartridge on a VA2 or VA1 Genesis Model 2, and it ran fine.

So, guess what folks: watch out with a VA6 Genesis Model 1. Game might hate it.

No, it's the cart.

I mean, it's definitely the cart, but it's an incompatibility with my system that this current batch of carts has.

Huuuuuuuuuuuuuuge bummer.

Well, someone from WM has gotten back to me: they say the VA6 is "known to have issues." They've requested that I try to boot the game without my Sega CD attached. Guess I'll try that tonight, but man.

They also asked:

"it is due to your model of Genesis, would it be possible for you to play your game on your model 2?"

Nice, guys.

yeah, again im okay with resetting but i wish they'd toss me a ROM like Sacred Line did, at least then id have options to make up for it

i need to check my YT subs more, thanks man

I'd LOVE to just fix my problem with a reset. I'm probably going to end up getting a VA3 or VA4 Model 2, and a damned RGB cable for it just to play the game. Ugh.

I love old advertisements like this. I used to cut them out, keep them and look at them for ages when I was young.

Just before I got the Genesis (early Spring 1990), I would spend hours drawing the fighter from Thunder Force II, using that SEARS catalog screenshot.

i know bruh, i know
in my defense i went & bought back III with a quickness...just waiting for a super cheap CIB 2 i guess, god knows the vertical/whatever stages fuck me up anyway

Chelnov a 1998 arcade release too, lmao

don't gotta roll with the first take every time, nah mean?
unless they're paying the VA by the minute

haha, this was exactly my thought...the other one i caught was GRANJAH or however he said Grandia...still, great series

Nice, guys.

In their defence, they can do absolutely nothing to solve your problem. They either take it back and reimburse you, or you suck it up. There is no patching, no modding, no exchange to do. They could take your cartridge and put your order on hold until they make another batch, but you'll be likely not playing this game before two years from now. If they do another batch, which is less than likely.

Oh totally. There's nothing anyone can do, really. I think I found a VA4 (or VA3 with holes punched in the shield) on the way, so I will probably just turn my VA6 model 1 into a master system machine and use a model 2 from now on for my Genesis and sega cd. I'm not Wild about my VA6, it is pretty marked up and the switches are fairly creaky even after cleaning. The Model 1 isn't very nicely constructed, and instead of the parts being screwed in on the upper shell most things are melted into place. By far my least favorite Sega console from a maintainence standpoint... All other systems they made are much nicer internally

I mean it's a huge bummer that the cart has issues, and I have to deal with it. But I do get to accumulate more game hardware, and I'm okay with that. Hopefully my issues will help them create more compatible software in the future, and other releases can avoid this problem.

So I talked to WarerMelon more, and here's what is happening.

If I put in a cartridge and pull it out after it boots, its screen freezes. Then I insert Pier Solar, hit reset, and the game works fine.

I think I'll wait to play it on the Genesis 2 I have coming. I really don't like yanking games out of a system when it is on.

Did Watermelon make the suggestion to pull a cart out after it boots or did you figure that out on your own? Either way it sounds very aggressive and I myself wouldn't feel comfortable doing that to any system, regardless if it works.

Pulling a cart after the system boots is a direct suggestion by Watermelon. Specifically, they suggested Sonic 1. I assume because it has no battery. The game freezes as a still image on the screen, and you insert Pier Solar. Hit reset, and there you go. Pier Solar boots, and immediately started using my Sega CD for audio.

Yeah, I won't be doing it again. I lost FF6 saves as a child when my sister pulled a cart out of a powered system and it is one of my greatest gaming regrets / fears.
