Just recorded a co-op playthrough of Toe Jam and Earl with my gf, she's gonna make a video out of it.

I had never seen that mermaid at the end. Mind blown.

Dynamite Headdy is the best game on that list by far. Well, most likely as I've never played the 16-bit Shadow Run games.

play Gunstar Heroes for the 1st time ever.

Happy with all the nominations as well, though I may selfishly play my copy of Thunder Force 2 on Saturn if it wins :p Waiting on those component cables from HD Retrovision (supposedly June-July for non-backers) for maximum Genesis glory.

I'll be happy to play any of them, but I'll stick to Quackshot, as it will be a good excuse to finally take the time to finish it.

I love Quackshot so I think I'll play it regardless!

I had a bit of a setback with my recording so maybe I'll make that my first recorded game instead of Alien Storm. I have been playing Alien Storm but just on my PVM. Quackshot is fantastic though, might get that on the big TV with the Framemeister.

Tekno, you finally got me back into it...

Played a little bit of SitD today, getting into the Third Trial (Truth). Characters are all around level 18/19, feeling a bit OP at the moment, though I'm not complaining.

You've got much better map skills than me, thats for sure. I tend to draw/write too big.

Same here! Splatterhouse 2 was the second/third game I bought back for my collection - when I started to collect again for the MD, a few years ago - just because of the strong nostalgia factor. On the other hand, I waited for a good deal on 3 for ages, and that looked like one to not miss.

Beautiful picture collage. That instantly makes me want to play the game!

I just received my bootleg patched copy of Dynamite Headdy, straight from China for $9.90, after 20 days. I didn't expect much considering the price, and I'm quite happy with what I received! As the seller said, all parts are brand new, the plastic used is lighter and feels cheaper than an original cartridge, same goes for the box. But no old game was cannibalised, which I think is more important. The cover was printed on standard photo paper and look nice, but they used a resized and crushed cover picture for the label, which look like shit. I suspected it would be the case, and I had the opportunity to send them a good looking picture but didn't. I might just end up printing my own, it's no big deal. The good thing is that they are very compliant, you can just ask them to print anything and put any ROM you want on a cartridge, they'll do it without hesitation.

Overall I'm pretty satisfied with what I got, for the price asked. The presentation is good, it looks like a Megadrive game on the shelf and in the console, but the box and shell are obvious reproductions, which is good as I don't intend to fool anyone. I'll deal with them again.

Model 1 (Non-TMSS High Definition Graphics model) plus Model 2 CD is the GOAT combination, in my opinion. Looks great, and is pretty reliable.

Also, the key to mapping is to get some graph paper, treating every box as a tile on the game map and filling in walls accordingly. It's a skill I learned growing up playing The Bard's Tale with my dad on our old Apple IIgs.

Beautiful picture collage. That instantly makes me want to play the game!

Thanks! The scanlines show up a little wonky whereas they look find on my display, but considering I threw an Instagram filter on the whole thing, I'm not too worried, haha.

Thats my sega setup! I love it.

The hipstagram filter really made me want to wear tight jeans and drink craft brews while playing it.

Haha, I tend to drink craft beers while playing games! Granted, my jeans are slim fit normally, but not hipster tight.

You're also a Canuck, right? That must be why you have great taste ;)

Actually I am a craft beer guy as well and I also have a beard but... I'm not a hipster I swear!

Calgary, myself. I plan on catching a Jays game in a couple weeks when I'm in TO for work in 2 weeks.

Back on topic, I was thinking about Quackshot and other Disney games on the Genesis at work today. Man, the Genesis really was the best for Disney licensed games! Quackshot, Castle/World of Illusion, Aladdin, best version of Lion King, best version of Jungle Book, best Mickey Mania (on Sega CD). I've heard Pochahontas is good too.

Really? I remember magazine reviews stating quite the opposite, back then. Also, is SEGA CD Mickey Mania even better than the PlayStation game?

Oh, I see. I thought it couldn't be a problem, since the game was developed in Europe (by Traveller's Tales), but NTSC versions of the game exist - SEGA CD, Genesis, Super NES - so, yeah, you must be right on that.

Count me in the Canadian (BC) craft beer drinking and Sega gaming group :p Although I'm mainly partial to Belgian quads and Californian IPA's :).

And Timu, I wasn't aware there was a simple RGB cable for the Genesis without mods. Hmm, may have to get that :p I assume you have something like this?

Side question being if I got a Scart switch box like this: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/2-Way-Scart-...709750?hash=item56815f8ab6:g:12MAAOSwq7JTyh-u
Will the RCA audio cables with my BNC connectors work fine for giving audio to both consoles (in this case, Saturn and Genesis)? It currently works fine for using the Saturn.

Thunder Force II

f6qoLrS.gif

Eighteen years ago the planet Nebula was attacked by the Lone Star System, arch enemy of the Interplanetary Federation. Its population decimated, the few survivors swore to protect its future with their lives. That time has come. Docked in the space portal of the planet Nebula, sits the combat weapon fortress Plealos, mother ship of the Lone System's fleet. What she can't take, she'll destroy. Now's your opportunity to use your sophisticated combat skills and save your planet. You're Ryder Jupiter. Known as Ace to the Federation, you've got vengeance on your mind. And the only person you trust in battle is the faithful Diana Rean, a bold determined comrade. What brings you together is the tyrant Reficul, Emperor of Lone. His plans to dominate Nebula can only be thwarted with the power of Thunder Force II which must be jettison deep below the planet's surface to Plealos for the final confrontation. Here you'll rely on the molecular Excelizer, a blast so strong it leaves nothing behind but memories. Go forth brave one, and free the entire Federation of Reficul forever.

Such great memories looking at the SEARS catalog, yearning to Play Thunder Force II

God damnit I wish we all lived in the same area,

Yes to your audio questions. That cable will send the stereo out the headphone jack on the MODEL 1 down the scart cable. If you're using a sega CD you can grab an adapter to hook the sega cd audio out to that stereo cable.

Either way youll be able to switch audio just fine.

Cheers man, thanks. I already ordered it anyways as I figured it made sense, lol.

And yeah, always happy to hang out, play Sega and drink nice beers!

Yup! My last buddy who I played games and drank beers with just moved, so now I'm back to be lonely with my retro setup in the basement, haha...

Speaking of drinking beer and playing Sega, I tried one last time to finish Alien Storm, and failed. I didn't realize the final stage was a maze, so I took a less than idea path through and ended up dying shortly before the final boss.

I still need to finish one of the monthly games sometime... Maybe next month I'll do better
especially if it's Quackshot!

Haha, yeah unfortunately drinking doesn't particularly benefit some of the harder games. Coffee and shmups seem to work better for me than beers. Beers can still be fun as long as you realise you're probably not going to be breaking any high scores, lol.

I feel your pain :( I get my retro drinking with friends with Mario kart or Mario party here and there but none of my "bros" are into a night of beers and Sega. Cod or madden maybe =(

On a semi related note, the wife was out the other night and I started putting some beers back and decided to play some dirt rally. Not a good idea. I fucked up my car so bad I was forced to DNF and threw the entire series I was running because of it.

Then I realized...I'm drinking and driving. Even for sim racing games(I have a g29 and race setup) it's a bad idea. Drinking and Mario kart go hand in hand though.

damn, everything about those pics is gorgeous!

I want to get Robocop vs terminator. Any impressions?

solid run & gun, and as was said, better than the SNES one - go for it!

this is one of those so obvious i thought everybody knew, haha
i mean, that thing's iconic!

Finally got around to play some Alien Storm tonight, and man, I just suck at beatemups :(

Was playing as the red soldier dude with laser, which was pretty fun. Came to what i think was the final boss, but died there. And yeah, I played on easy, so that was pretty unimpressive lol. Anyways, I really like the game, had great variety for a game of its type, and also some interesting ideas in its core gameplay that made it pretty fun. Definitely going to try again with the two other characters!

Just in the nick of time at the end of the month...

I decided to play the game on Easy (Normal Energy though), and was able to breeze through it. Surprised at how close I was to the end on my last run, and that the final boss is in a shoot-em-up section... I most likely would be able to beat it again if I ran through on Normal.

Great game, just a classic Sega action title doing what Nintendon't. I love how crunchy the FM music is, even on a Model 1.
