Streets of Rage could be a good, schlocky B-grade TV show/movie if done right. Altered Beast though, I don't know WTF anyone is thinking with that license. Might as well make an Out Run movie.
I don't know about the title change, but just wanted apologize for the confusion. I just simple don't have the time to assemble a game of the month at this point. Maybe I put too much into it, but it seemed the time spent wasn't worth it, because not many people jumped in. I tried to make it as flashy as possible to get more interested, but that didn't seem to work and in the end I just burnt my self out. Just wasn't having fun and thats what its all about. You can all hate me now.
I'm contemplating starting shining in the darkness. I don't have a physical copy and I already way blew my budget but I have it on steam and in the sonic genesis collection on ps3. Is the game all 3d dungeons like Phantasy Star dungeons?
I think I'll fire it up tonight. I gotta admit I'm not a huge fan of the dungeons in Phantasy Star. I will def be downloading a map.Yup. It's actually one big dungeon, with multiple levels. You can enter/exit the dungeon and visit town, which allows you to buy/sell items, weapons and armour, as well as visit the tavern and castle for some dialogue pertaining to what your current mission is.
The game's fun, if a bit basic. There's no map function, so be prepared to bust out the graph paper, or download maps online. If you're just following a map online, be warned that you'll probably have to spend some time grinding. If you're exploring every nook and cranny, you'll usually be pretty well leveled for success.
As a programmer interested in gaming this is dope. Definitely saving this.
Here's his blog that talks about Gen/MD programming and his game Tanglewood: https://bigevilcorporation.co.uk/

So because of the misunderstanding about what month was what game and me thinking Shining in the Darkness was last month's game, I've now finished SitD. I did do it in less than a month total.
I'm using up the last of my vacation time this week, so I've been able to hunker down and really play last couple days.
I also did have to start over because I had put about 2 hours or so (the time it takes to start and get your party), and then messed up saving on the everdrive (forgot to reset). So I had to start over from the beginning.
Congrats. I have a three day weekend coming up so I might plow through it. I've put a lot of time into it already. I'm at level 17 and have cleared the first two trials. For as much as I didn't like the dungeons in Phantasy Star 1 when I played though it, these aren't bothering me much. I have resorted to using maps after I got lost for about half an hour at first. It does show it's age but it's fine to play and grind away while I have some youtube playing. So because of the misunderstanding about what month was what game and me thinking Shining in the Darkness was last month's game, I've now finished SitD. pop quiz:
Who is Elizabeth Bartley?
I remember F-22 Interceptor being really fun.
As long as you don't die, because it has a creepy ass game over screen!
Another clueless localization?
—Please tell us about any events, ideas, or characters that had to be cut from Symphony of the Night. Also, if there’s any post-game story for Richter, Maria, or Alucard, please share that too.
Igarashi: As far as the story goes, I did have deeper and more involved dialogue planned, but I thought it would interrupt the game progression too much, so we took it out. There were many characters who had to be cut, but the ones I still wish we could have added were Elizabeth Bathory
It never gets too difficult although some of the random one hit kill spells can be annoying later on. I used a map and still never had to grind any. Oh yeah, i beat the game already, lol. I'm actually really interested in playing a more modern dungeon crawler, I enjoyed this game quite a bit. I have Legend of Grimrock on steam, I should fire that thing up!Just completed the second trial cave in Shining in the Darkness. This game seems a bit to easy so far, with all the wandering at least i get a too high level most of the time, making the enemies a joke so far.

Definitely interested in a more modern game in this genre as well, maybe i have to pick up one of the Etrian Odyssey-games.
yeah, congrats on that - i don't know how many others have finished Shining in the Darkness!
if you want a not-so-modern one, Shining: the Holy Ark is fantastic!

The best answer. Fantastic game!
I don't think I can afford to play Saturn games. lolif you want a not-so-modern one, Shining: the Holy Ark is fantastic!
My next one will probably be Shining Force CD. I'm either going to play through that or Lunar 2 over the Christmas holidays while I'm off work.Nice! I actually own it, but want to do the Shining-series in order now that Ive started with Darkness. So might get to it in like 5 years I guess.

lol, i picked a random character from bloodlines =)
she's a vampire.
from the wiki:
Japanese Nameエリザベート・バートリー
Erizabēto Bātorī (Erzsébet Báthory)
apparently she was going to be in SOTN
I stopped when the game made me. I just couldn't map anything and spent hours running in circles.walk on the ceiling
What's the latest on Project Y?

Shining Force CD is so good, loved that package
and if you're doing them in order, i forget exactly where but Darkness was the first released, but not the first chapter! i know CD comes between 1 & 2 (and is missing a japanese game gear title that really links them), while Ark should totally be done before III scenario 1.
i thought that interview was interesting.Yeah, I was reading about it. My guess is that the translator had never heard of Bathory and had their best guess at a supposedly badly japanised English name. Bartley, smh
Im probably just doing it in release order, as i usually prefer that to "canon" chronological order. Isnt the Game Gear-titles in Shining CD though?
yes and no! you get 2 game gear titles on there, plus a cool CD-only 3rd quest (4th one is boss rush mode if you unlock it), but there was one chapter we didn't get that involves a dark priestess who i believe goes on to mother the main baddie from SiTD.
Also the "Tanglewood" kickstarter is in it's final hours for people that are interested. Probably will not reach the "Dreamcast HD" stretch goal, but already passed the one for a normal Dreamcast release though.
Edit: Or it hasn't reached the normal Dreamcast goal yet, sorry. Got mixed up with currency conversions.
Just so you know guys, Beggar Prince should start shipping next week. It's still available to order, but as usual you may not wait too long before ordering your copy. We don't know how many they have made nor if they plan to make another batch after this one. Given it's the fourth batch already, It may very well be the last one.

Nope, we're £1700 / 29 backers short of the extra level and Dreamcast edition.
Having these two in the same stretch goal is weird. If we don't get it, I would hope they'd use the stretch money to make the extra level and ditch the Dreamcast port tbh.
