didn't ya'll already pick comix zone? or was it just always nomianted, haha

Phantasy Star 4- Not quite as good as I remembered? The manga style cutscenes are awesome and most of the enemy designs are really good, but the story and dialogue is really scant.

oh man, PS II will age far, far worse for you then!

picked up streets of rage 2 CIB for $20, hard to believe it took me this long. I've already been playing it for years, never on native hardware

Comix Zone- Love this game. The pixel art is top-tier, and nearly every panel has some sort of unique spin on the gameplay. And that totally 90s grunge soundtrack done Genesis style. Problem is it doesn't work well with my Genesis (model 1) and it will randomly reset. I've made it to the final boss once but I probably would have beat it by now if it hadn't reset so many times. I am going to have to get it on Wii VC in order to beat it. But really, I don't see why this game isn't praised more. It is easily top 5 genesis for me.

I don't suppose it resets every time you die?

looking at it...i need a legit, non NOT FOR RESALE sonic 1 cart, and the art for Sonic 2 & SOR 2, since both of mine have that on it! haha it's a minor thing but i'll swap em out one day

Sea stallion keeps destroying my team. I guess I shouldn't even attempt to escape from it. Is escape probability based on speed?

damn, it's been forever - are they like in groups? is it their attack, or do they cast or something?
and yeah i don't know for sure but always assumed speed affected escape %

No, it's one guy that pops up from a puddle. They hit hard, sometimes twice, and can cast freeze level 2. The water guys in the Cave of Courage I just ran from but with these guys it wouldn't work at all.

I ended up having to level a little bit and was able to get past them albeit with very little health remaining but they were quite annoying.

The solution to everything in this game is grinding lol, so just get a few more levels, and they should be easy for you to pass.

Comix Zone rocks. I so wish Sega and M2 made it a 3D Classics release on the 3DS because 3D visuals would have really complemented it.
I really love the style of the game, it's super well done. I just wish the main guy was a bit more timeless and not as painfully 90s. Ponytail and vest and shorts, ugh, it's like playing as a non-ironic Simpsons comic book store guy.

Excuse me while I cast desoul on your entire party.

and the only one killed is the guy who can resurrect your other party members

This sucks so hard. When this happens, the only real choice you have is to exit the labyrinth and start over unfortunately.

Planning to read this thread in its entirety (beyond the bits and pieces I've read here and there) but I separately posted a LTTP Genesis thread and wanted to mention it in here if any of you might have some tips and recommendations:

Played through Rocket Knight Adventures today. Never really played beyond the first stage, thought it was boring and turned it off. I was wrong! It is really wacky and they managed to build the game around the rocket boost pretty well. Some moments were very cool, like the reflection section, and the two different layers during the waterfall section. Some of the boss fights were pretty clever too. This felt like a Treasure game.

What's the word on Sparkster? Other than both versions being expensive...

So I noticed the Beggar Prince order page says the game is in stock and shipping to customers. Does anybody know how long it usually takes for them to ship a pre-ordered game? I only ordered a week ago but never received a confirmation aside from the Paypal email.

RKA is leaps and bounds better than the Sparkser games. I'd say skip 'em.

This 2-part series review is pretty good. I say if they still tickle your fancy, try them, but personally I don't like them.

Hey GAF, I remember reading here that some Tengen games on the Mega Drive/Genesis have something wrong with their boards, to the point that the more you play them, the faster you shorten their life. If I'm not mistaken, someone mentioned V-V/Grindstormer because of its price... Is Gauntlet safe? If so, is there a preferable version to pick-up (i.e. US Gauntlet IV over JP Gauntlet, or viceversa)?

Thanks in advance! ^_-

I've read that generally Tengen US carts tend to be poor quality but Grindstormer seems to be the only one that is bad enough that a large number of the carts are now dead. V-V doesn't have a similar issue.

Some how I went all this time without ever having the first version official sega six button controller. It's pretty great and will be my go to from here on out. It's more in line with the saturn controller. Love that D pad.

I'm destroying the economy over here.

Congrats! I actually beat it as well - just havent had the time (or kinda forgot) to post about it yet. Glad to see we were at least some people who played through it, even though there wasnt really all that much discussion going on.

About january, Jake is out, and we dont have any games to play for january. And considering the activity here this month, im not even sure there is a point in trying to keep the Club alive? However, there was a suggestion in the Master System-thread that we expand the Club a bit, to also include Master System/Mark III-games to hopefully give it more appeal and active participant. Would you guys be up for that? If so, I can take five nominations and try to get a poll going asap - but dont expect anything like the fancy official posts from OnPoint (in the Nes-thread) or Jake here.

I'm in for whatever if it's Genesis or Master System. To be honest, I didn't even know this was a thread until a few weeks ago. I have no idea how I even stumbled upon it. I was probably looking for Shining threads.

I personally would like to see the club going. I think having a game to play each month is a cool way to expand my library, and it also sets this thread apart from other retro/Genesis-centric threads. I'm personally more interested in Genesis titles, but I don't have an issue expanding it to include a Master System/Mark III game every so often.

Also, is there a list of prior games of the month so I know what not to nominate?

Here is the list:

March Game of the Month: The Revenge of Shinobi
April Game of the Month: Eswat
May Game of the Month: Alien Storm
June Game of the Month: Quackshot
August Game of the Month: Bio Hazzard Battle
September Game of the Month: McDonalds Treasureland Adventure
October Game of the Month: Who knows what happened here lol, dont think we had one.
November Game of the Month: Earthwork Jim
December Game of the Month: Shining in the Darkness.

Im happy to say Ive been able to participate in all of them except Eswat, but only beaten Alien Storm, Quackshot and Shining so far.

i brought every game and played the crap out of them till McDonalds... i missed that month and then the thread title stayed static for a long time. lol

i'm down for master system and genesis. gives me a reason to buy some games i might not be aware of.

Ive bought every game too, just not always gotten around to play them.

To be fair, My Mega Drive crapped out earlier this year and was out of action for about two months when i tried to fix the jailbars on it - so that made me miss quite a bit of gaming. But been back for a while now, and ready for january - we just need nominations!

Edit: guess I might as well start with the awesome Wonderboy in Monster World!

Is that the official choice? If so, that works for me, I've been interested in playing it.

gasega68k is back with an update on Wolfenstein 3D. It now has increased screen resolution and better performance!

Holy cow, I thought this project had been abandoned. I'm really happy to see progress is still being made on this project, it's one of the coolest things for Genesis. I didn't see a link tho, have they released a new update, or just screenshots so far?

I guess it would be fun if I took dictatorial reigns of the Game Club, but no, its my nomination only. We need four more, then we vote!

Well, I was already planning on playing Monster World 3 so that's a good choice. I've also been thinking about playing Valis 3 and Cloud Master (Master System). Ristar is another good choice. To be honest, I'll probably play through all of those games next month.
