I briefly played Wonder Boy in Monster World, made it to the Dwarf village, and died ... and ... found out there's no continues or anything? I was in every inn and they asked me if I wanted to save my game, so I assumed I'd continue there? But after I died, all I had was the option to start a new game. Did I miss something or is it really this brutal?

You're giving me ideas...The game is pretty short. You could always 1cc it
The last boss is pretty annoying though so I wouldn't recommend that.
WTF? That's insanity. It's not THAT short either...The game is pretty short. You could always 1cc it
I doubt I'm good enought for a 1cc run.. it's strange, even though I read on Krikzz' forum that a patched version should work, I've tried several, saved at the first inn, then game over'd but I still don't have anything but a New game option at the title screen. It's funny, this is probably the most trouble I've ever had with a patched game.
e: Maybe I'll try the PC Engine version ("Dynastic Hero"), I do believe it's pretty much the same game as this one.
e2: Or the japanese version. I think the save system is a bit different in that one.
I _will_ play this game! It feels like fun.

It will definitely be worth it.
The Ice Castle is rough guys.
Was able to just start the game today, and man is it beautiful and plays well! Hate the Ocarina stuff though, do i really have to write down a ton of songs? Anyways, really like the game so far, and its a nice nod to the older games that the starting screens are just like Wonderboy 2 and 3.
You just need to do the three songs. After that you can pretend that it never existed.
Ah thats nice to hear, I actually managed to remember all those three and get through that dungeon, so that means Im finished with the Ocarina. Kinda amazing that role the Ocarina plays in this game btw. No doubt a certain more famous developer than Westone copied this idea in Links Awakening and more famously Ocarina of Time.
The flute in Link to the Past is also an ocarina right? Probably around that time there was a lot of interest in it as a musical instrument in Japan. Maybe because it's a simple and old instrument with magical associations.
Have you tried patching the game yourself? I just gave it a try on my Mega Everdrive X3 and the unpatched game stops after pressing start at the title screen but the patched game works fine and also retains saves. I'm using it on a PAL Mega Drive if it makes a difference.I doubt I'm good enought for a 1cc run.. it's strange, even though I read on Krikzz' forum that a patched version should work, I've tried several, saved at the first inn, then game over'd but I still don't have anything but a New game option at the title screen. I did the motion with my hands and remembered it that way. Probably not going to remember it for years like you though

Here are my settings. Maybe they will help you. I didn't select any special options though.Yeah, I did try. Patched or unpatched, they do work the same, but after saving at the first inn and then dying, the option to continue just isn't there. I'm thinking I'm doing something wrong since so many people are reporting that the patched version works just fine. I have SRAM turned on on my everdrive (X7) menu too. And using a modded PAL megadrive. What region setting you had on? Dunno if that would make a difference.
OS Version is 3.02.
To be honest it wouldn't be a big deal if it didn't work for me either because I'm expecting a copy of the real game tomorrow. I was just curious why it wouldn't work for him.Guys, there's an easier solution to a game not working properly on an Everdrive....
Of course, but after selling my collection of games once, buying them again would be going a bit backwards.
I'll ask around, but in the meantime, I guess I will have to get good at this game!
Emulators coughcoughcough
How's everyone doing with Wonder Boy? I just beat the first boss and used the ocarina codes from here. I'm wondering though, how was I supposed to figure out the correct sequence? Do the villagers tell you? I didn't actually check and can't go back anymore.
I'm getting close to the end of the game (I think), andthat jumping section with the moving platforms and the miniboss you have to repeat is incredibly frustrating. I had to resort to save states after the 100th failed attempt.
Quick question, Genesis-GAF.
Any of you - with an originally brand new, US Eternal Champions - can help me to figure out whether or not it came with its poster, other than the manual and the Genesis 6-buttons controller ad?
I know the PAL version did, and there is an American version of Eternal Champions poster/catalogue too, but all the auctions that claim for the game to be 'complete', only show the manual and the controller flyer, so I'm a bit puzzled. I remember other Genesis titles - such as Jurassic Park and the first X-Men - included their respective posters, but I can't find solid informations on Eternal Champions.
Thanks in advance!
