Should Sega Sammy be buying anyone in their current shape?
A very good chance. People need to look at this process with some logic instead of just flipping out.
Atlus itself -- not Index as a whole, but the consumer games development division that we're talking about here -- is a consistently profitable enterprise. The listed sale price is $141m in US dollars -- a price that would be quite excessive simply to pick up a couple IPs whose value is heavily invested in their current, dedicated-niche-fanbase manifestation. Sammy also bought Atlus over a variety of other bidders, after Index specifically talked about looking for a buyer who would maintain some continuity in the operation.
Paying that kind of money to just loot the corpse and turn currently profitable IPs into mobile waste dumps would be quite pointless when, as it stands, they can buy Atlus, let them remain profitable doing what they already do, and also exploit them via sleazy mobile titles and so on.
Atlus USA is definitely the bigger concern here.
THIS IS THE ISSUE$10 to raise Fusion Level Cap by 1.
So does this restructuring bode badly for seeing P5 at TGS? Maybe we'll get P5 released around the same time FFXV gets released? .__.
NNNNNNOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
Even Nintendo securing Atlus would have been better than Sega getting them.
They brought out five fucking Yakuza games in the US. FIVE. Of a franchise that sold like shit here.Given Sega's track record toward their own niche titles? I don't blame him for that line of thinking.

To make effective use of Index's (Atlus's) assets...Sega Sammy is thinking about expanding them into smartphone games.
This doesn't necessarily mean that they're going to stop making games for consoles / handhelds, and it doesn't mean that development on Persona 5 is going to stop.
I found a leaked (or should I say leeked) screenshot of Persona 5:
Err... Being a bit too dramatic, don't ya think?... I'm really sad right now. I got this aching feeling in my heart.
You had a good run, my favorite gaming company.
like holy shit I'm actually really sad. I can handle a human death no prob but this? Shit.
Tell that to Yakuza, Phantasy Star, and Valkyria Chronicles fans. Also 7th Dragon.
RIP in piece localizations
How the fuck does sega has that much cash?
Sega Sammy Holdings is the parent company formed by the merger of Sega and Sammy. Sega Corp is a subsidiary of that, and the one everyone thinks is coming to rape their Personas and MegaTens and whatever.
There is every possibility that Atlus will become another subsidiary separate from Sega and mostly left to do their own thing, but that doesn't really suit the doomsday narrative.
Not at all, people just like to panic.

Oh come on! You know how much this bothers me, 9th... Persona is part Shin Megami Tensei franchise! You can't say one Persona if you're going to say SMT in the same sentence.
Like none of them are released in English.

Right, I mean their strategy after buying Relic, Sports Interactive, Three Ring Designs, and Creative Assembly has been to pump more money into their games and also have them open a few side businesses, but they didn't tear out their core businesses.
Were someone to choose a rock to stand and complain on, it should be about their games going more AAA than mobile only.
Atlus USA though, yes there are notably real worries here, and perhaps some worries about localization.
Killing myself now.I found a leaked (or should I say leeked) screenshot of Persona 5:
I wasn't exactly rooting for them either.Gungho wasn't going to do any different had they been the one who had purchased Atlus.

Well shit... I can see Atlus transitioning into primarily a mobile game dev subsidiary then. While they'll still work on bigger games, I feel that it'll be limited in terms of quantity.

Is it? Sega over the last year has pretty much decimated Sega USA, moving most operations outside of simple marketing to Europe. Coincidentally, Atlus has no presence in Europe. As far as I know, there's surprisingly little overlap.Atlus USA is definitely the bigger concern here.

Nevermind the fact that they're not released outside of Japan.

What does that have to do with Atlus developing mobile games?
Does Sega publish anything on consoles anymore that's not under Nintendo? I can't think of any.
