And yeah, I'm going through Mission 2 atm, game is damn fun, it's insane! I don't regret the investment, you guys know your stuff. Never heard of this game before seeing it a few times here, what a discovery!

Works like a charm on SSF, looks clean and crisp on my HDTV too.

I don't mind dropping money on a game, but I already have EAR pretty much perfectly on Taito Legends 2. Tough sell for me.

I paid good money for this Dynex!
I thought the emulation of EAR on Taito Legends 2 was absolute butt, but it's been awhile since I forced myself to endure it.

I'd prefer no EAR over bad EAR.

Unfortunately Taito Legends 2 doesn't have a proper low-res mode either. The Saturn EAR looks like porn in RGB. Probably not a dealbreaker to most at that price though.

I forget, does the PS2 one allow binding grenades to a separate button? It's not big deal on an arcade stick, but hitting 2 buttons at once is a bit weird on a PS2 pad unless you hold it claw style.

Whats a good type of paper to print Saturn NA case back covers on? Finally got Guardian Heroes in original case with manual, but the back cover was printed...and on normal paper so its not that good looking.

that's a good question...i forget which stock i used for genesis ones at Kinko's but it's pretty damn close, and you really can't tell from behind the gloss. im looking to print a bunch of stuff soon, including a few back covers for Sega CD games so if i have any good results ill let you know man!

Aaaaand I've joined the EAR club. =)
A club which is rapidly growing it seems.
LTTP time?

Amazingly, Elevator Action Returns was selling for ~$40 a year and a half ago.

Now:

Apparently someone had unloaded a ton of nice Saturn games at my local shop a few days ago. Panzer dragoon saga, burning rangers, radiant silvergun, and some others. Of course they were all priced accordingly, but thankfully I could probably get a deal if I decided on getting them.

I did get a complete samba de amigo set for like $40 though.

see this was the window i was looking at when i first starting buying saturn games, and you can literally watch the jump from this point. super common shit like Die Hard Arcade doubled in price, and while the rare WD stuff saw spikes too, the lesser known gems got outta control...that's why i had to wait & look high and low for EAR, Chase HQ and shit you would think fairly priced. ugh.

nice! same happened to our shop last week oddly, one buddy got Shining Force III and another MKR. i have a copy of Phantasy Star Collection held for me, but yeah Burning Rangers & such are priced about what they usually pull, so i'm out.

Hopefully one of these days I can acquire Elevator Action Returns for a decent price. :(

So I guess the retro game inflation has started hitting the "32-bit" era then?

So I've discovered I want to pick up Mystaria. Saw a lp on it and it looka like a fun little tactical rpg. However there's another version of the game called Blazing Heroes. From what I understand they are both identical but there was some copyright issue.

Which version is superior anyone have any familiarity with this title?

They're completely identical as far as I'm aware; no changes were made when they rereleased it. Just the title.

wow, i mean i know mark (rightfully) gushed over it, and i adore CGR but id never really thought he could drive up prices like that, he reviews so much stuff!

I never checked out Mark's Musha review till now. But when you have a guy that reviews practically everything making a 7-part review on a game and then calling it one of the best video games ever made, I can see why the spike happened.

PS: I blame this thread for the price spike of EAR. I never would have picked it up had it not been mentioned here. I'm assuming the same for Seik and woodypop.

Pretty much. Mystara was a tradmark under TSR (Dungeons & Dragons related), so the name was changed to Blazing Heroes on reprints. (and nobody thought the Japanese name, Riglord Saga, was a good name for the Western audience).

It's one of the games I played as a teen. I keep very fond memories of it. It was my first tactical-RPG so I'm probably biased but I really liked the story and atmosphere, the overall world where you could wander. Most maps had different objectives too, some where you had to progress up to a point, some where you just anihilate everything, others where you need to sneak your way out (or in), and other stuff I forgot. Very cool, if a tad easy (my 12 years old self could finish it).

I impulse bought Riglord Saga II a long time ago, in fact it was my first japanese import ever. My total lack of understanding of Japanese language meant I couldn't pass even the first battle lol.

Maybe it s the influence of RetroGAF, gasp!

Oh snap, we could be part of the problem at some point lol.

I need to look at some videos of EAR because screens...dont look that interesting.

EDIT: Wow it IS that interesting. Add me to the list lol.

Oh no what am I doing. Re-buying certain games just to have the original case and manual. I certainly won't get into the crazy priced ones or ones with terrible artwork though. Time to auction off the ones without a box though! It's not like I paid that much for them to begin with so I can easily make it back. Also what other games have shiny manuals / artwork like these two?

I'm guessing just those.

Pretty sure Working Designs games (at least Dragon Force and Magic Knight Rayearth) have shiny parts on their manuals, but they're still based on the standard white/gray Saturn color scheme, not the shiny silver/dark-gray scheme Sega Rally and Virtua Fighter 2 use.

I have an idea to spice things up here.

How about we hold EAR leaderboard, you take a pic or a SSF screen cap of your best score at Normal difficulty (With 3 credits with one that get used right at the beginning) and I'll hold that leaderboard in the OP and if we get enough participation with this one we could do others in the future.

I know that's not everyone who has EAR, but I know many in this thread bought it. So I'll try this one to see if people are on board. :)

I'll start a run right now.

EDIT: LOL, it was my best run ever, reached Mission 5, then I died, took a screen cap with SSF in full screen and it screen capped a black screen...conclusion: windowed mode for screen caps, DAMN. :'(

Heh, I have Mystaria and Blazing Heroes. Bought BH in stores, picked up Mystaria at a flea market and figured why not.

Mystaria is a much cooler title. (I always assumed the title change was because of Myst...)
