AP don't seem to be mentioning anything about his possible homosexuality, and they seem to be the only ones supplying this news right now (besides Advocate).

RICHMOND, Va. -- U.S. Rep. Edward L. Schrock abruptly announced today that he will not seek a third term in Congress, citing unspecified allegations that have "called into question" his ability to serve.

Although Schrock did not comment on why he decided against seeking re-election, several Virginia Republicans said allegations that Schrock is gay have roiled the party since they were posted on a Web log Aug. 19.

Schrock is married and a conservative who voted for legislation to ban gay marriages.

Republicans from Schrock's conservative district, which includes Norfolk and the resort city of Virginia Beach, said they had planned to discuss the allegations at a party meeting Tuesday. Now they'll meet that day to choose a replacement candidate.

"We're shocked and stunned more than saddened right now," said Virginia Beach Republican Party Chairman Mark McKinney. "What I read on the Internet was a complete and utter surprise to me."

Schrock, 63, a retired Navy officer and Vietnam veteran, said in a five-paragraph statement that allegations have surfaced in recent weeks "that have called into question my ability to represent the citizens of Virginia's Second Congressional District."

He continued: "Therefore, as of today, I am stepping aside and will no longer be the Republican nominee for Congress."

The release said Schrock would not comment further on his decision, nor did he comment specifically on the allegations.

Allegations that Schrock is gay were posted on blogactive.com by Michael Rogers, who said his blog is aimed at exposing "hypocrites" in Congress.

Schrock's decision leaves the Republicans scrambling to field another candidate to oppose Democratic lawyer David B. Ashe.

"I am totally, totally shocked and disappointed. Whatever it is, he should have stayed in and fought it. He's a good Republican," said Juanita Bailey of Newport News, a delegate at the Republican National Convention in New York.

I wonder if Juanita Bailey would have supported him against the allegations if they were true.

I read the news story earlier, but it didn't mention the "homosexual thing" or if it did, I glanced and didn't read the details, but now looking at it, the AP story now mentions it. This is absolutely hilarious, what an idiot, and the guy deserves this humiliation.

the Jersey governer thing was also pretty funny, or maybe just weird. It's like, the wife is all smiling/uncertain reaction while her husband is coming out to the nation... What exactly is the proper stature/look/reaction for "political husband declares himself Gay Americanas I stand by him"?

I find it all pretty entertaining and fun to hear about, no matter how devasted these people's lives are. They are adults already and should take responsibility for their decisions. With the Republican self-hater, he deserves it for not being honest with himself. For the Jersey governer (which probably came to terms with it long ago), he shouldn't have let his hormones dictate actions of security as governor.

I still don't get these log cabin republicans. I guess they are rich ass punks who go republican for the money...but if they'd only see it through the eyes of..."let's vote for the people who want to legalize marriage...we'll save thousands of dollars on insurance and healthcare and taxes because we're recognized as a 'couple' and get rights that we don't have...something we really can't put a pricetag on."

What morons.

For the outing of this guy...more power to the people who expose the lies. Now let's get John Ashcroft next...we all know he's gay. Hiding the Lady Justice's breast and all...Now if it Mr Justice's pex...we all know that would have not been covered up.

What the hec?, this site is a goldmine.

Ed Koch. That's news to me.

I had no idea Jim Kolbe (R-Arizona) was "outed", I thought he was openly gay, I remember a minor ferver back in the 2000 Republican convention when he introduced someone and had some words onstage...

At least they made some noise recently.

Christopher Barron of the Log Cabin Republicans, the small organization of gays and lesbians who regularly attack their professed party, said over the weekend that the Republican National Convention's prime-time schedule this week after adoption of a "vicious, mean-spirited platform" is like "trying to put lipstick on a pig."

He was talking about the featured speakers for tonight's opening convention session: former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Sen. John McCain of Arizona. On NBC's "Meet the Press" Sunday, Giuliani joked about Barron's jibe by saying he wondered whether he was the "lipstick" or the "pig."
