sell me on ghost of tsushima

The thing about it is, it's a very pure gaming experience. What do I mean by 'pure'....

The core gameplay loop is fun above all else, it does not hide beneath systems, upgrades and collectibles to retain your attention.

The world is beautiful and alive, the art style really reflects the romanticized version of feudal Japan. At the beginning, you should just go exploring (Ignore the map till you want to progress story) and enjoy the world without being distracted.

There's very little bloat, it's very lean and focused as an experience.

The mythic quests are amazing and give you some of the coolest techniques and rewards that rival the best I've ever earned in any game.

Each outfit / costume is unique and very memorable... beautifully designed.

Duels are addictive and once they became available, I kept doing all of them till there were none left. I wish we had a multiplayer version of the duel.

The story is great and doesn't try too hard to manipulate your feelings, you either connect or you don't, it's unapologetic in that regard.
The side characters are very individual, you'll get to know each one well and their story arches.... you don't really just think of them as mission markers but as actual people. At least I did.

That is how I felt and I haven't even touched the Legends portion yet. I will though...

If you decide to get it, I hope you get good enjoyment out of it. Each person is different and you might not connect with it the same way I did. I remember having 'open world fatigue' several times and having to stop playing Witcher 3 and Horizon and come back to them later.... I loved them when I cam back and put in some time though. Sometimes it's just about your frame of mind....

AI, fair, but camera? I guess you're referring to the lack of lock on because i never had i single issue with it. Can't imagine how someone could say it "sucks".

And yes, compared to Souls, Nioh and Sekiro it's for sure far easier but still fairs extremely well in terms of competence of mechanics with the last two, and just a match in Legends would be enough to see it.

How can you play this game and still feel the need to add "imo" when saying the combat is better than Witcher 3 or AC?
Nah I didn't mind the lack of lock on. In fact I think they did the right choice not putting that in because that would be another thing to manage while fighting. My problem with the camera comes when fighting in dense forests or mongol camps: a lot of the times in those areas thigns would be placed between the player and the camera, and those things don't become transparent like in a lot of other games, forcing me to readjust the camera to have a nice view of the fight. Fighting mongols was a lot fun, fighting the camera not so much.

Sadly I haven't played legends as I lend my copy to a friend.

And the "imo" part it's just because I don't know either of you personally, and someone might take my opinion for a fact, which it isn't, just another opinion. :)

ps: I edited my previous post, as Dragon's Dogma combat system is far better than this one. Still, for an open world game, got's combat is great.

I get what you mean, but the point is that you're supposed to always move the camera during fights.

But it's not just an opinion. That the game combat pisses all over W3 and AC is just a fact.

Yeah, that was truly great as well, so fun. That PC version was a godsend.

Still, for an open world game, got's combat is great.
I think it's pretty fair statement saying GoT combat is great full stop.

Do you like Ubisoft styled open world games? If so, purchase it. Combine that with the polish and presentation you've come to expect from Sony 1st party titles.

It's 50% an amazing game 50% frustrating or boring to me like most Sony games.

If you like being forced to watch cutscenes, and don't mind missions where you follow someone for 10 minutes while they talk, that often end in a 30 second battle, you might like 100% of the game.

Remove forced cutscenes and incredibly lame "walk and talk" missions and it's an 8/10 for me for sure (which is a high score to me).. taking those things into account and it's a 6/7 out of 10 for me.

I have not played the Legends stuff though; need to check that out.. might bump the game up for me... one of my main qualms with it is that it's just not super replayabe to me (due to the upgrade/XP system being kind weak and the forced cutscenes and boring missions.) Legends sounds like the replayable portion but I haven't checked it out yet.

Bought it last week, just started it after beating 13 Sentinels. It's an amazing game about 13 high schoolers who can ride giant mechs but not all is at it seems. Told like a visual novel, the story is told through a series of flashbacks that all come together and at any time you can explore files on the world as well as engage in battle. I can't recommend 13 Sentinels enough.

quick update, got it last night and holy fucking shit is this game pretty, even in an rusty old PS4 with a shitty TV, it still one of the most beautiful games i've ever seen, played it for 10 hours straight, my only complain so far is the lip sync for the Japanese audio is fucked up, so i had to play it in, English
