Senate healthcare repeal bill fails - Collins, Murkowski, and McCain voted no

I dunno, I just really think it's pathetic McCain is seemingly getting all the credit (besides you know, democrats and the people), who was happy playing these games for so long, and not GOP women like Susan Collins and Murkowiski, with their unwavering fuck no's.

Collins and Murkowski also expended a lot of political capital doing all this, their re-elections are on the line while McCain knows hes on his way out lol

I'm talking specifically about his vote regarding healthcare and that disgusting thread from a few days ago. I am no fan of McCain, but a lot of posters were posting some vile shit about a man on his way out.

They were, funny how messing with people's lifeline does that.

nods at old men
He wants a bipartisan effort, he may personally want a worse bill but he wants the entire Senate to take part in working on this not just one side

NOW he does.
Not a few weeks ago.

That's the only good thing I can take away from McCain is that now in the final minute he got serious about wanting regular order.

Everything before that. Pure shit, no spine.

Some people just can't say anything positive about someone they disagree with.

The stuff on Gaf happened before the bill vote.

Murkowski is the real hero here (even though she is "safe" till 2022 I hear), because she is likely to get the most abuse out of it while being from a red state (McCain is extremely unlikely to seek reelection, if he happens to survive by some miracle, which I do hope for him and his Family).

The real wtf vote was probably Lindsey Graham though, vocally denouncing the vote as a fraud... Yet voting yes.

Collins and Murkowski also expended a lot of political capital doing all this, their re-elections are on the line while McCain knows hes on his way out lol
Murkowski and Collins will easily win re-election

Murkowski is basically bulletproof. She's in now due to a write in campaign, she wasn't even on the ballot proper

He voted for the terrible GOP plan... That's still a healthcare vote.

He is a hero because he did the right thing for once? Is that the baseline for being a hero now? If that is the case then the 50 other senators that voted against this stupidity are just as much heroes if not more so.

"Bet you guys feel bad cause McCain did exactly what you wanted him to do! How does it feel!?"

This was way too close for comfort regardless. I mean I can't say for sure how much is calculated backstage optics to make it SEEM as close as possible but regardless, embarrassing it was this close.

Now work with fucking democrats and give us single payer.

We need single payer. Every other country on earth does. We are the wealthiest and we can't provide healthcare to our citizens? Messed up.

While McCain's Maverick status has always been in question, this vote for me solidifies it. The fact that he was able to come through and save 43 million people from losing coverage is a big thing for me.

I get that he could've stayed home and delayed this vote but I'm glad they were able to get it over with and he had the opportunity to shut this bill down right in McConnell's face, eye to eye. Something that our cowardly president would never do.

The GOP controls the entirety of the government and has quite literally accomplished nothing.

The level of gridlock despite having zero roadblocks of any kind is fucking absurd. Never seen anything like it.

The GOP's ability to trip over it's own dick is legit amazing.

He just saved a lot of people and spit in the twisted face of modern Republicanism/Trumpism

From the consequences of his own actions. One vote doesn't change the fact that he was sucking modern Republicanism's dick when he voted in favor of the bills that were even worse than the skinny repeal.

I dunno, I just really think it's pathetic McCain is seemingly getting all the credit (besides you know, democrats and the people), who was happy playing these games for so long, and not GOP women like Susan Collins and Murkowiski, with their unwavering fuck no's.

Yeah, it's stupid. McCain lowered expectations to the point where he does something decent and now people rolling over and ignoring everything he did before that. If Trump ever picks up on how this could work for him, ho boy.

in the context of the current GOP, I'd say yes. what's it take to get some praise around here? he was the vote needed to end a tie-break by Pence. Maybe it took brain cancer to not give a fuck about re-election, but he did the right thing and I'm going to applaud it.

By & by, Collins & Murkowski are heroes too.

But McConnell scoffed at the idea and called it European Healthcare. You really think the Republican base will support anything European?

Lindsey Graham has a long, storied history of saying things then voting yes anyway. He ranted and raved about Trump damn near being the Antichrist and yet has fallen boot to heel.

He's the prototypical Reaganite Republicans, fall in line no matter your own personal convictions.

Doing the right thing on a consistent basis. If he had had his way the entire bill would have been repealed and to be honest I have no idea if he still wouldn't vote in favor of full repeal.

The real sad part of this is that none of them liked the bill but none of them wanted to be the one to take the heat from McConnell/Pence/Trump

It took someone with a terminal fucking illness. None of them have any spine whatsoever

If there were, shame. I didn't venture into that thread.

I would hope that anyone who wishes harm on another person, elected official or not, would lose their posting privileges for a time and reflects on why it's not okay. I haven't gone back to check those threads but I am going to trust that the right thing happened.

You might get it when Democrats have a veto-proof majority in both houses.

AKA, not anytime soon.

She was already primaried from the right and won a write in campaign back when people thought you can't win those. She sure as hell not gonna lose for voting against a bill that unpopular. They're threatening her with an empty gun and it shows.

Because they are fucking cowards. "Get in line" despite none of their states actually wanting this. Despite knowing Ryan and the house would brute force it through.

Can you guys show some receipts?

Or just going to throw around the word disgusting some more?

While we are at it, want to drag out McCain's voting record? That might disgust you even more.

At the end of the day, people are going to be mad at people for doing shitty things. McCain hasn't shown his "maverick" or human side for many years. After he was tore down by the Bush family he has been a rank and file GOP shit bag. He couldn't even defend himself when Trump went all in on him. Why should I defend him?

I stand by what I said about McCain. There used to be some good there. He used to be my favorite republican. Him lecturing racist dipshit supporters who were going after Obama is still a bright spot in my mind. That was a long time ago. I don't know why he sold out his country for the GOP.

He still doesn't want everyone to have affordable health care by the way. He wants the same corporate tax cut bull shit that all those GOP fuckboys want.

On that note, I am still happy when shitty people do something good for whatever reason.

So is it true that McCain got Murkowski to agree to vote ahead of him (and out of alphabetical order) so he could be the one to cast the deciding vote?

Doubt it, once he voted no everybody would know the end result

Because they are fucking cowards. "Get in line" despite none of their states actually wanting this. Despite knowing Ryan and the house would brute force it through.

I don't trust The House at all after their little Bud Light Kegger

Lmao the gall of people. They're calling him selfish when they think they don't want to pay for other people's health insurance (except that's what health insurance is).

Oh and it strikes me as off that the people that bitch the most about Obamacare are those in states that didn't expand Medicaid...you know, Republican states.

The outcome would've been the same had he stayed at home and not voted so he gets no props from me.

I needed to go to bed before the vote, but tossed and turned all night with stress. Checked my phone at like 5 am. I can't fucking believe McCain is the one that reach out his hand and grab us before we fell off the fucking cliff. Massive props to Collins and Murkowski for sticking to their guns. Fuck the GOP for how they are treating these women.

+1 It's hilarious that people think he's a hero now. It's like when Trump gave that one speech where he actually read the teleprompter and everyone fell all over themselves calling him presidential.

So are the people who wished death on McCain going to recant now?
GAF has been wrong pretty much all the time since early 2016 actually.

GAF spent so much energy wishing they could hate McCain to death only for him to turn around and save them all. He really is the hero GAF deserves, not the one they need right now.

P.S. John McCain spent more than 5 years being tortured by the North Vietnamese because he refused an early release as a VIP over other American POWs during the Vietnam War.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_McCain#Prisoner_of_war

No one on GAF will ever understand what he sacrificed for his country, nor do they deserve an actual war hero like him as a politician.
It's kind of neat that McCain patiently waited, biding his time, knowing that he would eventually have his revenge for that.

There is something profoundly awful about this.

There is someone who worked to expose segregation in their 20s, worked to better healthcare and education in a state in their 30s, got millions of poor children healthcare in their 40s, did quite a good deal of charity work in their 50s, and served the country as a senator and as secretary of state in their 50s going into 60s. This person, however, will be forever hated by you, while you laud the actual enemy as a war hero.

And because of a single ban message on an online forum, you did not vote against the current state of affairs or for a better future, and you have the gall to come in now and talk about how this forum doesn't deserve this 'war hero' who is neither a progressive nor an ally?

Quite flabbergasting.
