Sense Controllers & a camera to track them would most likely be a bigger Sub-Platform than PSVR2

Make a few bundles with games like Beat Saber , Sports Champions 3 , Just Dance , Some Bowling game , Some Tennis game & other games that don't have to use the headset but just need the control interface .

The games could all have VR modes which would lead to better software sales for VR devs.

I think a some of the lessons from vr game design can be translated back onto flat screen. You're onto something but not gonna happen and certainly would not have been a better route than vr in the long run.

Not better but cheaper & can appeal to more people than VR.

The fact that PlayStation Move sold more on PS3 than PSVR did on PS4 is a good example of how sometimes less is more. than PS-Move actually sold more because it was needed for PSVR.

Being that Sense controllers have thumbsticks the games will not be limited to waving your hands like you just don't care.

The Wii got the most out of the fad, it's gone. People are over it.

Look at xbox with kinect, it's just not gonna happen. Lightning is out of the bottle and can't be put in again.

I very much prefer the advances of VR tech, despite its drawdowns.

EDIT: Just Dance already works that way using your phone as a sensor, or a joycon on switch.

That's all true but they are probably in this to get an early presence in the market. Meta, valve, and apple are also going for it. Any sort of consumer hmds (ar, VR, or whatever else) are going to trace a lineage back to this time. If they become mainstream in any form (gaming or otherwise) these companies can have a headstart making a name for themselves in that market.

Not everyone that could do it is doing it, though. So that indicates it's not a sure thing. Otherwise, Google and Amazon would be spinning up vr departments scrambling to get aboard. The implications for data collection are sickening so those assholes would be all over it if they thought it was going to be mainstream.
