With PS5 essentially becoming a Hybrid console/handheld now thanks to Portal what Handheld orientated games would you like to see on the platform?

See what I'm getting here, this not hybrid….not only I have to buy separate system but also can't function without internet.

Like I said in my original post, the whole point of "hybrid" is ONE system can be both console and handheld.

If I have to buy separate system that just defeats entire purpose of "hybrid".
I have both so my PS5 is essentially a hybrid gaming device.

All this foolishness about the power going out doesn't matter to devs selling their games on PSN or to someone who wants to play the game unless their power is off at the moment.

I wouldn't even call the PS5 a console anymore. It's a handheld.

Is there really much difference in undocking your switch & picking up your portal?
Yes! First I don't have to pay extra money to buy separately system just to play on henheld and most importantly I can play it completely offline.

Portal is better than expected over WiFi especially with more recent updates, but I wouldn't go as far as calling it a hybrid. Well no more than the wiiu except the attach rate is like a tenth for the portal.

I've always felt the same way about Switch. Thing could double as an entertainment device with the plethora of services out there, but Nintendo just won't allow it for some reason.
I have always assumed this is because Nintendo wants some sort of revenue share from those services being utilized on the device, but as I type this, I remember you can access Youtube and Hulu on the switch. So now I'm back to square one. Such an unintuitive decision made by Nintendo.

I'd like to be able to watch YouTube, or a movie in bed.

Sony is so weird. Their tech is baller as F to me but then they hamstring it. PSVR2 is completely useless outside of VR games and the Portal is the same with flat games. Doesn't make sense why they don't have some kind of VR UI or app/movie capability with the Portal.
They should be bringing more non gaming apps to PSVR 2 like Google Earth VR, Big Screen and stuff like that

This 1000%. I recognize there isn't much revenue generated from such apps, but it keeps people engaged with the product as well as adds to the headsets value proposition.

I've spent so much time in Google Earth VR it's not even funny. Lol.

Tilt Brush would be nice too.

I love to go to the middle east and follow dried river beds to find ancient settlements.
Some areas (like the middle east) doesn't full allow Google to fully map the regions/or Google hasn't yet mapped the regions. You can still go to them, but they aren't fully detailed.

PS5 and Switch 2 is the combo to have, however I have held a relatives Portal and I was impressed.

GTA V through cloud had none of the typical artefacts I associate with xCloud.

I also liked the neon running through both sides of the pad.

Good product if you have a spare 200 notes and just want a casual complimentary device.

Correct, it is of lower resolution, but you can still make out the structures and earthworks. This is also true of many areas in Asia. If you haven't before, go check out the bomb testing sights northwest of Las Vegas. You can still see the mock city the military built as well as numerous craters created by the underground blasts.

I will only accept the Portal being great when PlayStation allows the user to stream their digital library

Until then whatever
Portal has supported that since launch. No subscription necessary.

More recently they enabled you to stream some games directly from ps+ to portal if you have a premium account, without needing a ps5 to stream from. I.e you can play gta5 on portal etc.

"PlayStation 5 is now a hybrid handheld thanks to the Portal!"

I'm pretty sure the ask is for the portal to let you stream any game you own without needing a PS5. Xbox is slowly rolling this out, you still need Gamepass Ultimate to have access to XCloud. But you can stream some games that aren't included with Gamepass.

I think my idea of a hand held is entirely different than the OPS. Because the portal is a companion streaming device with no exclusive games.
What is even this thread??

God I miss GBA, DS, PSP and Vita.

In what reality is the PS5 a hybrid console? In order to function a Portal has to be tethered to a PS5 and stream games from it. The PS Portal is not some kind of "PS5 Lite" that is a portable PS5. There's nothing hybrid about the PS5.

OP is following the same reasoning that push overbearing parents to tell everyone their little boy is trans the instant he starts looking at his sister's dolls

By this logic a desktop PC is also a hybrid because I can stream games to my Steam Deck.. which is also a hybrid. Hybridception.

But no. PS5 isn't a hybrid.

So if it's essentially a hybrid now does that mean it's not a real traditional home console anymore??? That must also mean Sony abandoned the traditional home console market too.

I mean sure if you buy a fuel powered generator and a form of WiFi booster yeah you can take your ps5 outdoors for some "portable" gaming.

Is a PS5 bundled together with a portal a hybrid?

A Switch handheld connects to a dock (via physical connection, where no processing is done) to play on a TV
A PS5 console connects to a Portal (via Wifi, where no processing is done) to play on a handheld

I see what you did there OnQ.

Thats Good Robert Deniro GIF

But honestly I won't be surprised to see PS5+Portal bundles before the gen is over. Sony also appeared to increase marketing of 2D handheld style games ever since the lead up to Portal's launch.

To answer the question I'll only play 2D games, PS1, PS2 and arcade ports on a Portal. Only because I feel they suit a smaller screen.

Portal will work anywhere you can get your phones Hotspot to work. Either connecting to your ps5 and installed games, or if you have ps plus premium can stream some games from there, no ps5 required.

Who is using a Portal outside of a home (yours or friends/family)?

Also. A lot of ISPs charge extra for hotspotting - Not to mention the lag. Try using the portal while in a car and see how great that goes

You do know that lots of cars actually have Wifi built in now right?

So we're putting streaming games from the cloud or by hotspotting to our consoles at home under the same category as having either a physical game cartridge or digital game installed now?

I am a PS only gamer, and the Portal has absolutely nothing on the Switch. The Portal is a limited add-on that has some use inside the home but little outside of it. It is not like a Switch Lite. It's more like the WiiU tablet.

Does the Portal offer any benefits beyond just being a controller with a screen and remote play?

Is there any reason to buy it instead of just using a phone mount on a dualsense?
