I'm watching King of the Ring 1995 and we're down to The Roadie, Savio Vega and Mabel. That's some high-quality bookin'.

On my way to Evolve !

Awesome, enjoy! Should be a fun show.

Anyone else watching the iPPV?

EVOLVE 35
Brooklyn, NY

1. Newcomer's showcase: Timothy Thatcher vs Tracy Williams
2. Climb the Rankings Match: Johnny Gargano vs Drew Gulak
3. Technical Challenge: Zack Sabre Jr. vs Biff Busick
4. Non-title Match: Drew Galloway vs Roderick Strong
5. Open the United Gate: The Bravados (c) vs Anthony Nese & Caleb Konley
6. Open the Freedom Gate: Ricochet (c) vs Uhaa Nation

People ragging on the name Hideo Itami but accepting dumb shit like Seth Rollins, Jack Swagger, Dolph Ziggler, Daniel Bryan, and Randy Orton all have one thing in common, friends.

I don't see the problem with the name, sounds fine, isn't too clichéd and there aren't any Japanese wrestlers named Itami to confuse matters in his home country.

It's WWE recognizing his name value when introduced but knowing they have to make him theirs from now on.

I'm hoping this method of introduction avoids the smarky "we knew this guy before he was in WWE" sort-of chants.

Incidentally, I wish the Full Sail crowd would stop the O'le chants for Zayn - yeah, it was a nice nod to his former character at first, but now it sounds bad, especially when they insist on singing it over his theme song and it doesn't fit in the slightest.

The entire reason the majority of the Full Sail crowd is there is a 'Look, we're into them before they got on Raw!' It's a miniature ECW crowd.

It's their universe and they can do what they want!
I hate it too.

That's why I always get excited for the RAW after 'Mania. No matter how bad the show might turn out, the crowd is always fun to listen to.

Exactly. Sure some crowds are total dicks especially when it comes down to CM Punk chants...but crowds like the ones in Philly makes wrestling exciting rather than a settled crowd who just watch but not get involved.

Wrestling crowds suck. There is no good wrestling crowd

I disagree.

What would constitute a "good" crowd in today's pro wrestling world? What should they be and not be chanting?

Things to stop chanting in a variety of companies:

-CM Punk
-We are awesome
-What
-Goldberg/Husky Harris/old gimmicks
-This is wrestling (although I'm on the fence about this)

Things okay to chant:

-Thank you _____! (when leaving a company)
-This is awesome (I'm sure not everyone agrees)
-Yay! Boo! (chops and strikes exchanges)
-Wrestler names who are actually wrestling
-Welcome back! (for returning guys)
-Joe's gonna kill you
-One more match
-One more time

Chants I'm ambivalent towards:

-Fuck 'em up ______, fuck 'em up
-Holy shit!

Stuff I'd like to see in wrestling:

-Singing ala soccer games (think "Who are ya?!" for jobbers)

PROGRESS crowds are pretty great, but I'm sure some of you would take offence at so many people enjoying themselves. I like PWG crowds as well, little in the way of chanting, lots of reactions.

Some goof on the EVOLVE pre-show thought it'd be a good idea to do the whole "missed highspot turns the tide of the match" with a corkscrew 630 senton. Yeah, he went splat.

Also, Shenron, Shynron or whatever he's called, flat-out sucks - he was the dude who cracked his skull open on a double-rotation moonsault 2-3 years ago, but since then has been under Quack's tutelage to teach him proper, authentic Quackenbush luchalibre. It hasn't helped.

Your responsibility as a crowd member should be to enjoy, to enhance, or to be uninterested. A quiet crowd is far more harmful than a crowd chanting 'blank sucks' or 'you can't wrestle'. And you damn sure shouldn't go to shows trying to get yourself and your friends over by dressing up as characters and trying to steal attention from the performers. Fuck people like that.

Then you also have to give an honorable mention to "you're gonna get your fucking head kicked in!"

I don't like any kind of 'We want' chants when it has nothing to do with the match at hand. Like 'We want Daniel Bryan' during a Triple H match makes sense. But you don't need to start chanting it at Roman Reigns because you just don't like him. Just go to the bathroom or something when he's on if you don't like him.

I also think indifference is the best way to show you don't care. I'd love to see fans get up, turn their backs, and just ignore a match or promo if they truly don't care. But you'll never get that in the WWE with the family crowds.

Crowds aren't very good today. There's not enough normal cheering or hate. Everything is chants. Chant this, chant that. Even then, people can't be bothered half the time so they end up quiet. I still remember that Backlash 2000 ending. It was so amazing. Just people roaring, cheering and jumping.

Today I'd be hammered by shitty 'Yes' chants instead.

Yep, that was actually what I was thinking about was when 'chants' started to become such a huge thing in wrestling. It had to be the late 90s with Goldberg and Rocky chants and then kicked up 10 times when Stone Cold started doing the Whats. It just adds to the crappy carnival atmosphere when everyone's constantly doing these planned out chants.

In general, I prefer when people just cheer or boo or show apathy. Chants might have been ok when there wasn't a ton of them, I guess, but they got ran into the ground. Which is something I blame the Bingo Hall for, because we really needed a 'She's a crackwhore' chant. It added so much to the match. And the thing that I really hate that I'm sure some of you like is the indie crowds constant OHHHHHH any time someone hits a move. It's the kind of thing that encourages the constant big spots or nothing because I want cheap pops not to make a match add to a feud style of wrestling. The Austin Aries style of wrestling.

I feel that with a name like "Hideo Itami", he's opening himself up to some easy berrials. I can picture a guy like Daniel Bryan coming back and just destroying Hideo's gimmick because of his name, like he did with Bo Dallas.

Imagine Bryan and Hideo in the ring and Bryan says this while flailing around the ring:

Hide-o, Hide-o
Daylight come and me wan' go home
-De`, me say -De`, me say -De`, me say -De`
Me say -De`, me say Hide-o
Daylight come and me wan' go home

Work all night on a drink of rum
Daylight come and me wan' go home
Stack banana till de morning come
Daylight come and me wan' go home

Come here Itami man, tally me banana
Daylight come and me wan' go home
Come here Itami man, tally me banana
Daylight come and me wan' go home

Lift six foot, seven foot, eight foot bunch
Daylight come and me wan' go home

Oh that explains so much

Apparently Lucha Underground had a Pentagon Jr v Fenix v Drago 3-way and that sounds amazing on so many levels

But Daniel Bryan can't cut promos.

Also time to google Hideo Itami.

I am enjoying this focus on technical wrestling on Evolve.

Was impressed with both Thatcher and Williams, hope to see them again in DGUSA or Evolve.
