This is a stupid-ass enthusiast revival, you'll get some really crummy thinkpieces on some second-rate enthusiast sites crowing about how wonderful it is to be back, how things never should have died with music games because they're sooooo good at these San Francisco barcades. He's not wrong though. While I was initially hyped for the return of Rock Band and Guitar Hero, it's a revival that not many people were really asking for. I fucking love Rock Band, but both Rock Band and Guitar Hero killed the genre.

They're just not fun anymore. DDR has more staying power than playing baby instruments.
