Looks awesome! I wish Fox wouldn't have cancelled the series, but atleast we're gonna get a kick ass movie out of it.

Looks good. Can't wait for this to come out. Missed the TV show when it was on, watched the DVD's and loved it. Maybe Fox will pull a "Family Guy" and bring it back!

Awesome. Though I am a bit curious as to whether the choice to add sound in space was Joss' or Universal's.

I still need to pick up the DVD boxset of Firefly...

Trailer looks great, but for some reason I couldn't get the MOV to save onto my hard drive properly. Anyone have a suggestion?

Yes, you really do. Amazon's got it for $35.

See my revised post above.

Looks to be a bit of both, actually - a quick, basic retelling of at least part of the TV series, which will hopefully continue some of the plotlines that the original, alas, didn't get to. For anyone who hasn't seen all of the TV series, there will be a few spoilers in the trailer, but I wouldn't let that stop you from watching it.

Edit: DistantMantra, my original, overly optamistic post needed a bit more editing and should now give you a direct download. Give it another go and hopefully it'll work.

Edit Edit: Well, apparently I was mistaken. Fortunatly, others have corrected the problem for me. Woo!

They added sound in sapce? I didn't notice it with all the music playing. Are you sure? Hopefully it'll just be for the trailer.

Shit there is sound in ourer space. Obviously it wasn't Joss' decision. I really hope it's only to get people who watch the trailer interested in the flick.

Awesome. So if this movie does well the show can come back...right?

looks cool, but a bit too much 'its from joss!' and 'here's why we made this movie!'.. kinda odd to see in a trailer

The Legend of BorkBork: BorkBorkity Borking
Ha! This is pretty good timing because I just finished getting my girlfriend hooked on the dvd set yesterday :lol :lol Anyways, the trailer looks awesome, but it does kinda worry me that they have to cram so many storylines in a 2 hour movie.. Damn FOX for not even letting the season finish!

Alas, not anytime soon. Whedon has a three film contract with Universal, so if the first movie does well we get two more big screen adventures. At that point I suppose things could be renegotiated, but we're just getting flicks for the time being. Hey, fine by me.

There are a few goodies over at the official website. Nothing too exciting - a few photos, a wallpaper of the logo, buddy icons - but it's still worth poking around and checking things out.

A few thoughts:

- Needs more Kaylee. I'm sure Ron Glass is feeling left out, too.

- The whole sound in space bit is disappointing but will hopefully only be for the trailer. If not, ah well, I'll live.

- While I like the fight scenes overall, the oh-so-hip music combined with martial arts left a bad, Matrixy aftertaste in my mouth. It's more the music used than the thought of the fight scenes themselves, but...yeah.

- Say, that bounty hunter looks kinda familiar. He's referenced as "The Operative" in the IMDB entry for serenity, but I'm still reminded of "Objects In Space".

- Finally, you'll all be thrilled to know that the inevitable licensed video game release is already out!

He reminds me of Early (guy from Objects from Space) but it's not. This one is more of an assassin while the other one was a bounty hunter. There's a difference, dammit!

And yeah, the fighting feels forced, but having the movie as slow as the show would be a mistake. Too slow for a lot of people, and we want this movie to be as successful as possible for more Firefly movies.

I really hope the movie turns out well. I'm on pin and needles between this, Hitchhiker's and Kong.

Yeah, I didn't see a wink of Ron Glass in there.

"- The whole sound in space bit is disappointing but will hopefully only be for the trailer. If not, ah well, I'll live."

Hopefully only the trailer.

"- While I like the fight scenes overall, the oh-so-hip music combined with martial arts left a bad, Matrixy aftertaste in my mouth. It's more the music used than the thought of the fight scenes themselves, but...yeah."

Sounded almost exactly like Matrix Reloaded (which I was just watching before I came on to GAF.) I'm almost positive that's only for the trailer. The series featured only original scoring with a total lack of hip/house music.

"- Say, that bounty hunter looks kinda familiar. He's referenced as "The Operative" in the IMDB entry for serenity, but I'm still reminded of "Objects In Space"."

Although it is my favorite ep of the show, this bounty hunter doesn't remind me of Early very much. Early had a peculiar manner of speech, a southern philosophical, and he was more overtly insane. This new guy clearly comes from a classic british background/upraising and features a more sophisticated bearing. He's a much scarier kind of psycho.

"- Finally, you'll all be thrilled to know that the inevitable licensed video game release is already out!""

I would like to see a videogame but it would never make for a good shmup. Serenity ain't got no guns on her.

It's supposed to take place 6 months after the end of the series. No retelling, just bringing the non-series fans up to speed.

Mild spoiler below
I don't think Book (Ron Glass) is on the ship. He has a bit part I believe.

I'm having trouble with Quicktime at the moment. Can someone perhaps point me to a Divx or Xvid version? Or at least a program that will convert it quick n' simple?

Jayne looks decidedly less goofy than in the show. I mean, he's still basically an airhead right?

And again the lack of Ron Glass is a big deal. Book's probably the most mysterious character on the show. If they don't explore reveal anything about him in this movie.. well.. I won't do anything at all, most likely. I'll just quietly watch the movie and mope about it later when I'm alone at home that night. I'll probably write something angsty about it here on GAF.

Firefly always looked generic to me. This belongs on Sci Fi or some such. But if I were a fan of the show I imagine I'd be excited about it.

I always viewed it as the exact opposite of that. It was a western based scifi drama, set after a galactic civil war, staring a band of outlaws one of whom was a hooker and another a priest, as they traveled between the known planets. It might have been a complete Trigun/Cowboy Bebop rip off, but it was far from generic, especially here in the west.

I loved the series but the TRailer gave off a distinct cheesy straight to video vibe thnx to hte horrible music and the text.

Cant wait for it tho. Must catch it in theaters before it bombs.

Who cares about the music in the trailer? It's just a placeholder, you know the music of the actual movie will be totally different.

I'm insanely pumped for this movie. Firefly! Woo!

I agree with the bolded.

I know nothing about this series. I've never watched a Joss Whedon show. I thought this trailer sucked. It provided no establishment as to who these characters are. I have no idea why I should care about the girl, or who that bad guy is or what he wants and can do. I don't even have a desire to watch the trailer again.

Yikes.

I say, fuck Firefly. They canceled Dark Angel for that show, and it didn't even make it to a second season!

And I'm not saying that Dark Angel was a superior show, but THEY ROBBED ME OF MY WEEKLY JESSICA ALBA FIX! BASTARDS!

Man, you butchered that line, Teh Hamburglar. It would go:

I like Serenity the FIRST time I saw it... when it was called The 5th Element.

You mean, "I liked Serenity the FIRST time I saw it... when it was called The 5th Element."

Goddamned pesky verb tenses.....

Oh, no! I can't refute his comment therefor I'll simply use the "everyone who disagrees is an idiot" comment!

no actually your fifth element comment was idiotic.

other than the flying ships nothing in the trailer suggested this was anything close to fifth element.
