Sessions: Changes coming to policies on drug charges (to make them harsher)

Attorney General Jeff Sessions is signaling that the Trump administration plans to make changes to policies the Obama administration implemented to seek less serious charges in some drug cases.

In a memo sent to federal prosecutors nationwide Wednesday, Sessions called on them to crack down on violent crime. Most surely already view that as a core part of their duties.

However, another passage in the directive says changes in Justice Department charging policies are in the offing.

Legal experts said the language indicates that Sessions is planning to make significant revisions to policies Attorney General Eric Holder issued in 2010 backing away from prior directions that prosecutors seek the most serious viable charges in every case and in 2013 calling for prosecutors to avoid seeking mandatory minimum sentences in some cases by leaving the quantity of drugs seized out of charging documents.

"My take is the Holder memo is toast," said Ohio State University law professor Doug Berman. "Holder said you don't have to charge mandatory minimums and it looks like they're going to say, 'Oh, yes, you do have to.'"

Sessions about to fulfill his life long dream of being able to put even more black men into prison.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
I'll bet this has absolutely nothing to do with those private prison deals.

Nothing at all, am I right?

Gotta feed the prison system, and disenfranchise as many brown people as possible. It's exactly what we knew he'd do.

What a fucking nightmare.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
Let's lock up all of those opioid abusers

I'd pay to see throngs of white senior citizens without records get thrown into general population.

Theoretically, reinforcing mandatory minimums should result in more White drug users getting locked up, since thats where the main drug epidemic is right now.

If it makes you feel better, they would want to imprison poor and colored people even if it didn't directly make them money.

But Hillary supported a 90s crime bill so really the parties are the same.

You tell that tiny minority who is too far left to vote for a corporatist moderate. They certainly swayed the election.

The war on black people rages on, Sessions the man deemed too racist by racist white folks to be judge is now the AG and can finally put us uppity negroes in our place. Let's not even act like drug addicted white folks gonna be affected by this.

Anyone who gets arrested should just use the Sessions "persona" defense that he used. "That wasn't average day me officer, that was my weekend party self."

Trump and company gotta help out their private prison bros
totally forgot about private prisons. they are gonna get rich thanks to trump. gonna by mighty hard to get rid of them once they open up and take on long term contracts.

I can see this firing back at them when they realize this will affect more white heroin users.

That assumes that they won't generally ignore white drug users. They'll probably do whatever they can to focus on black and brown people.

I've never heard this. What was he excusing, his use of a racial slur or something?

I love that he thinks that he's gonna be around long enough to be able to get anything done.

Come on IC, put more incriminating info out there. Hurry.

"but her emails"

One of the sad realities of Clinton not getting elected since one of her campaign promises was to eliminate private prisons.. ugh it depresses me to think about how much better that timeline would be.

Weird, I was just reading one of those dumb thinkpieces interviewing Trump supporters, and one of them said that if the Trump admin restarted the war on drugs or attacked LGBT rights, he could be convinced they were bad ... but he couldn't see it happening!

This + the private prisons deal + the increase in immigration crackdowns are what the 13th documentary tell the story of. So sad it didn't win the oscar and get more attention.

For those who have not seen 13th yet, you owe it to yourself to fire up Netflix one night and see what it has to say. Meanwhile, for those who have seen it, you owe it to those you know to share if they haven't.
