Seven Psychopaths

Disappointed there was no OT for this. It was released here in the UK recently and I gave it a watch just now. It was pretty good. Anybody who liked In Bruges should end up liking this, though it's not quite on the same level.

A struggling screenwriter inadvertently becomes entangled in the Los Angeles criminal underworld after his oddball friends kidnap a gangster's beloved Shih Tzu.

There's already a thread for it somewhere. I haven't seen it yet, surprisingly. Loved the hell out of In Bruges. Unless I can catch it at some budget theater I'll end up renting it as soon as it's available. It's got an awesome cast for one thing.

This movie was a bunch of underrated actors giving great performances all together. It really was funny and engaging.

It's a little confusing and I'm not sure what the point was, but it was still a pretty fun ride with great acting from everybody involved.

Have to say that I hated the little sucker punch they pull in the beginning though. I was like "OMG JIMMY AND ROTHSTEIN!" and then I was like :(

Sam Rockwell was hilarious in it. It was a lot of fun.

Also i've noticed there haven't been any OTs for movies since maybe The Hobbit. I was wondering if they weren't allowed anymore or something. Its kind of confusing using the trailer announcement threads as OTs in terms of whether spoilers are allowed or not

Felt the same! I was like WHOA, this is going to be awesome and then :(

Not great, but it was a pretty enjoyable movie.

The lead guy's gf in the rain in a wet t-shirt was the highlight.

There was a great part in the trailer:

Guy with gun: Put your hands up!

Walken: *nonchalantly* No.

GWG: But I've got a gun?

Walken: *gigging slightly* Well too bad!

Oh yeah! One of my favorite parts of the movie.

GWG: ... But it doesn't make any sense!

Wasn't as good as I thought it would be. I get that it's about the performances, but it wasn't interesting enough for one of those stories that doesn't really go anywhere.

I thought it was a good movie; but it didn't really stick with me. I really liked the whole plot with the Vietnamese guy though.

Also loved the cameos from Michel Pitt and Michael Stuhlbarg. It was great to see them together again after Boardwalk Empire.

I fucking adore this movie. It's witty, self-aware, and at times very poignant. McDonough is the second-coming of 90's Tarantino.

Kind of how I felt. I did enjoy it and overall thought it was fun, it just wasn't as great as I had hoped/expected it to be.

Strangely the film reminded me of Iron Man 2 with the screenplay seeming really undercooked, with good bits at the beginning and end of the film, with a lot of aimless meandering in the middle.

The scene that irked me was when Colin Farrell's character talks about writing a screenplay that is 'an action revenge thriller in the first half and in the second half the characters go to a desert and just talk'. As an audience member i thought "that a boring idea" but then the film proceeds to go down that exact route. This wouldn't be a problem if the dialogue was of a consistent quality throughout the film, but it isn't.

In Bruges is a far better film.

I was not a fan of this film. It was pretty dull I thought, and without many laughs. I was hugely disappointed since I enjoyed In Bruges so much.

There were some good moments but overall letdown.

I liked the movie as an idea, but their realization of that idea left a lot to be desired.

I did not like Rockwell's performance right after watching, but in retrospect he was good. But he was nothing compared to Walken, NOTHING!

Plus, why the fuck are those women on the poster? They get less than 2m of screen time between the two of them.

dude
that's one of the biggest jokes in the actually movie!

It was a really enjoyable movie but didn't live up to In Bruges. I'd like to see Martin McDonagh do a more serious movie next time, as fucked up as Seven Psychopaths was it still felt way more light-hearted than In Bruges.
That's not really a valid complaint, since it was never trying to be too dark or serious really, I just preferred In Bruges for that reason (among others).

Also, certain parts of the movie really reminded me of Tarantino for some reason.

Sounds like the bad version of Adaptation.

I really liked this film. Not as much as In Bruges but it was an interesting twist on the typical plot that this usually follows.

Woody Harrelson and Christopher Walken were great.

The movie was quite self aware, and I liked certain parts of it. I'm quite mixed about some parts, but I'd give it an 8 or so.

I have to say I was disappointed. The movie came highly recommended from friends but it just seemed to fall flat for me.

Having said that, Rockwell did a good job and Walken is always good... I was just expecting too much I guess :(
