Several French cities ban Burkinis on beaches, citing "public order" concerns

Funny thing about the "good morals" thing is that a muslim wearing a burkini would be doing it out of what she thinks is "good morals." lol.
Honestly,I'm kind of ok with this.If they don't like it,they can move to a country that has better laws for religious people.
Yo damn I didn't know moving to other countries was that easy. Where can I learn more

hahahahahahaha perfect

This whole thing is laughable. Fighting patriarchy with patriarchy. If these women are oppressed it doesn't make sense to oppress them even more, we should be making their lives easier. It's so simple.

Reason and logic.

Their argument: "you shall wear what you want"
My argument: "if this involve gender discrimination , you can't"
Them : "but muslim women are not forced to wear their coverings , they want to"
Me: "equality of human dignity between men and women comes first. into a civilized country any misogynitic conduct shouldn't be allowed , even if self-inflicted , because it infringes the basis of the democracy itself"
Them: "but those are just swimsuits!"
Me: "no , they are meant to fulfill the comendments of the shari'a , which are clearly misgynistic"
Them " let them women wear what they want , praise jesus! Jesus is the answer!"

Reason and logic.
You know you fucked up, right?

Dumbest law ever. A woman has the right to wear what she wants. It's utterly ridiculous that this law exists, c'mon France you're better than this.

It's not really a law, just a decision by local mayors (unsurprisingly in areas where the far right is more popular). French institutions ("conseil d'état") are actually debating right now the legal validity of such restrictions.

These cities may as well ban the headscarf outright. The niqab and burkini are not equivalent, no self respecting extremist would ever let a woman to go to the beach, bikini or burkini.

It just sends yet another signal that Muslims aren't wanted in France, which is exactly what the hardline Muslims want - for expatriated Muslims to 'come home'.

UAE

Those French towns can try to justify this as much as they want, but it's oppression.

What does this comparison mean? It would make more sense if there were people wearing burkinis undisturbed in the UAE and Turkey pics. Without the burkini in the French pic it would look exactly the same as in the other pics.

People from the west can go to Eastern/Muslims countries and dress how they like on the beach. These countries are supposed to be "Oppressive" (which they may well be). But in France a woman gets confronted by armed police because she's not showing skin.

Also calling it a "burkini" is ridiculous, but it sounds bad so I guess thats easier to ban.

But anyhow, here are Muslim (Iranian) women wearing them

It mean that some so-called islamic dictatorship tolerate better the "western civilization expression" than so-called french secular democracy tolerate islamic expression.

Most people would expect that a country ruled by shari'a law like UAE won't allow this kind of swimsuit.

Oh so it's yet another case of whataboutism

Try Iran or Saudi Arabia. And in most other countries we're talking closed off ressorts with armed guards around them.

The last sentence is disingenious. Police is always armed, you make it sound like they sent a SWAT team. And they confronted her because she was wearing a (then) forbidden piece of clothing, not because they're perverts and want to see some skin.

Now with the ban overturned, it will be interesting to see how it further develops. Can't say I'm surprised it was overruled.

I'm worried we'll get some flashpoint incidents in the next few days, but nevertheless, GOOD.

There's no reason there will, that whole thing has been a non issue from the beginning. In the last few days there were a total of four people fined (most in Nice), and most beaches banning it never had anybody wearing one to begin with.

It's kind of a shame that the Council of State can say "Yo what you did is illegal" yet the mayors can just be like "Haha oops sorry, my mistake ^_^". I would have liked those mayors to be fined or punished in some way.

I believe that in Saudi Arabia, for example, you must be covered up (men and women) if you go to a public beach. There are beaches where people can tan or wear swimsuits, bikinis, whatever but they're private.

Yeah but they don't ? Bikinis are allowed on private beaches, which are "westernized". You must be a subscriber to be allowed on the beach. Even then, some of those won't allow the Saudi Nationals.

It's a stupid comparison. Ignore it.

Yeah Saudi Arabia is pretty restrictive and I remember UAE being like that at one point though they've been leaning back pretty well nowadays (probably for the tourist $$$$).

Stop trolling, it's only the always same two countries that you keep mentioning. Why you don't speak about the 52 others muslims countries ? Anyways, i didn't know that democracies should treat their minorities like dictatorial fanatical regimes does.

What would do islamophobes without the extremists...

you might as well add that they're allowed to smoke crack on the beach.

I know you're a big fan of whataboutism, but Iran and Saudi-Arabia are big countries with a lot of influence, especcially the latter as main exporter of wahhabism.

In scary Muslim Turkey the Secular Turkish women wear bikinis and religious Turkish women (some wear headscarves some don't) swim in normal clothing while swimming or wear less revealing swimswear. Sometimes you'll see generations of the same family wearing all different stuff. It's great, no one disturbs anyone else.

I don't think burkini is a popular thing in Turkish culture. I can't recall ever seeing it.

And what have to do wahhabism with burkini ?

Can you name one current wahhabi scholar who allow the burkini in the first place ?
And Iran have zero influence in Europe since less than 0.5 % of european muslims are shi'a.

In most muslim countries it was always the tradition to swim with their clothes on. It was the same in North Africa, for men as well. Nudity use to be a very big deal.

Those pics were from Iran. Surprised? Thought so.
