Shadow of Mordor deserves more attention. Come in and be hyped with me.

I am very confused about the game's release date. The trailers at the Sony Gamescom presser and before show Oct 3rd. But news came out at the same if not slightly before that they have preponed the release to September 30th. So when is the game out in North America guys?

September 30th in NA. October 3rd in Europe.
 
I am really, really interested in this game and really want to play it, but I can't seem to justify spending full price on a single-player only game. That's not a knock on single-player games, it's simply that the only reason I warrant buying other games at full price is because I'm worried about the health of the community and fear if I'm late I will have missed out. Whereas a game like this, it will be just as good whether I play it now or a year from now. And that's why I'm not getting all super hyped for it at the moment.

If you have a PC you can get it for less than $30.
 
I don't like the premise of the game at all. A formulaic Batman/AssCreed clone in Mordor with a ham-fisted reputation system that gives way to incredibly dumb dialogues with orcs.
It just doesn't work with the setting, would fit better as an AC or Batman kind of setting (with added magic).
 
I'm incredibly hyped for it. Batman style combat, gore, asscreed stealth kills. This all combined with lotr lore(which is huge to me). The simple fact that they've shown hours upon hours of combat/nemesis system shows me their confidence on the games success.
 
I'm really hoping that at some point in the near future they will show off some of the non-combat gameplay, like exploration, hunts, collectibles, etc.
 
I wanna be into this game, but I feel like I wouldn't have enough time between this, Dragon Age: Inquisition & the Witcher 3.

I feel like all 3 of these games are separated just enough to give you ample time to enjoy all 3 equally.

Sept > Nov > Feb. Good month+ of playtime each. No?

Unfortunately, no. I want to grab all three on PS4 & I don't even have that yet. And I don't wanna play any pared down versions on my PS3. I'm pretty patient though, so I can wait.

Are they going to try and keep inline with the lore, or is it more of a parallel universe?

It seems like they'll make references but mostly a parallel universe. I could be wrong but that's what I took away from it. What REALLY gets me into this game as it seems like the nemesis system allows for a stupid amount of replay value.
 
After playing F.E.A.R. last month for the first time and realizing how good Monolith can be, I'm definitely interested in this.

Also I really should get to reading the Lord of the Rings books sometime.
 
I still think it's astonishing the amount of footage this game has completely unattached to the story and side stuff. The Nemesis system looks amazingly vast and rewarding. I hope we see more WB games use this system in the future.

I'm really looking forward to the nemesis system, I've seen a few different sets of footage and the orcs are always completely different, in appearance, personality and strengths/weaknesses.

Hopefully they show off some non-combat footage soon though.

If you haven't you should also try out 'Condemned: Criminal Origins'. The 2nd one got silly at the end but the first is a solid game.

Hopefully they have crafted a great story. I find a weak story can very quickly ruin a game for me. There is so much content in the LOTR universe, i hope they can really great an engrossing story.
 
It looks good but I'm concerned about the world in the game. Why haven't they shown any other sections if they exist?

Every video so far has that green grass everywhere type look with fortresses. Its ok but if that's all there is then even the nemesis system will get old very quick.
 
It sounds promising and the Polygon video looks good but the Gamescom footage looked horrendous in comparison. I have some huge mixed feelings with this game, and it being in same release month as Destiny is not making me want to buy the game even more.
 
Looks like the main feature is another take on the AI system. No surprise, considering they have the undisputed AI system in a shooter that has no attempts to be dethroned.
 
Super pumped for this, will def. buy. But they should have targeted an august release. They could have sold a lot more copies then...
 
I always find the LOTR setting slightly inadequate for games. It is awesome for movies and books, but the games lack enemy variety IMHO. Too many orcs and orc-like creatures, and I wonder why. Tolkien himself went bat crazy adding everything from talking animals, sea monsters, giant spiders, demons, dragons and whatever to his books.

I'd agree, except for War In The North - that got a lot of undue flak imo. Starts off really slow, gameplay-wise, but as an RPG it certainly picks up (and on harder difficulties).

But the things I liked, enemy variety aside, was that you visited a lot of places in LOTR lore that aren't often discussed. Thoroughly enjoyed it, from that avenue.

As for Shadows Of Mordor - initially I was resistant, since it didn't feel like LOTR, but the more I've seen the more I've been persuaded. Set to be one of my 'big' games on the 'holiday' season now.
 
Does anyone know how big the world is? Just for the record; it's a complete open world, right? Not different zones you traverse through?
