Shadow of Mordor deserves more attention. Come in and be hyped with me.

I'm totally going do a 12-hour LOTR extended edition marathon the day before this game releases.

I watched both movies of The Hobbit just a few weeks ago and it got me pumped x 100 for this game, haha. It's going to be cool hype builder.

I love how this game went from under my radar to one of my must-buys in this overcrowded fall! Only wish is that it had some sort of coop, even a horde mode would add a lot to be able to do with some good friends.

Yeah, I would have liked to see some kind of multiplayer component as well.

The problem is the Arkham style combat system, the attack priorities would get screwed up really easily with more than one person fighting in a group.

This game gets better and better with each viewing. I just really hope it doesn't disappoint.

I know it's shamelessly influenced by the Creed / Arkham games, but it's considerably better than the majority of LOTR games we've had before, even if they don't fully respect or adhere to the lore.

Upon learning of how much has actually been cut from the new gen versions of NHL 15, I'm going to be cancelling my pre-order. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with that money but I'm seriously considering Shadow of Mordor. I wish I had gotten to play it at PAX before the line was capped on my last day.

I'm definitely gonna rent this or play it somehow. My only gripe is that it doesn't really stay true with the lore. Normally I don't care, but we are dealing with the most well-realized fictional world of all time.

I've been up in the air about this game since it was announced, but I went to their panel at PAX, and I think I'm sold on this. Had some really good ideas and I think I'll have a lot of fun with it.

Didn't even know about this til I read this thread. I'll definitely be picking it up. Sounds like it'll be the sleeper hit of the fall.

I heavily dislike PewDiePie's videos and his audience. But damn do I respect the man and actually find this pretty awesome of him should get some sales. Good idea.

It was one of the few demos at Gamescom that made me get excited for a videogame I wasn't before!
I'm definitely going to pick it up. I don't expect too much, though - would love to be surprised by an excellent game :)

Sorry for the OT, but how can you dislike his audience when you don't know most of them, leave alone the few who leave comments on his videos?

With all the games that have moved from October to November I'll be buying this for sure now - and I'll even have some time to play and finish it.

I watch PewDiePie but I am nothing like him, sometimes I like to just sit and laugh at the absurdity of his character while watching the games he is playing.

I don't believe he is like that in person, it's just a character he plays. I love his Walking Dead series as I am not interested in playing it myself, he legitimately cried at one point and I don't believe it was for effect.

I just watched his SoM video and I am even more excited to play it now, looks so badass, especially that arrow that lets you teleport long distances.

I still am unsure about the whole Nemesis-system, anyone have a good vid on this or a good read?

I saw one during Gamescom about the ''chessboard'' where all the enemies were standing and 2 guys were talking about duelling them to make them stronger or whatever but I still do not understand it all.

To be honest, everything I've seen of it so far makes it look decidedly average, it's just incredibly dull and ugly looking to me.

Hopefully reviews will persuade me otherwise but at the moment it's unlikely I'll be giving this a go before it's free on Plus.

I was more excited for this game before but all I keep seeing is the Nemesis crap. If there's not a decent amount of exploration or anything else to do I'll just wait and get this for like $30 on Black Friday.

I spent sooo many hours in the challenge rooms of the Arkham games, playing around with the game flow and enjoying the many different parameters and restrictions.

SoM seems like it's going to be just like that... only open world, procedural and emergent. If they get the interlocking systems and flow right, this looks golden even if the Nemesis system is 'all there is to it'.

YES.

D:

Definitely hoping to pick this game up ASAP after it comes out, currently thinking of picking up a destiny ps4 bundle so i think the two would go nice together ;)

Since when are Wraiths good? I always thought wraiths were created by corrupting people with dark sorcery in LOTR lore.

I read about the Wraith in this game SPOILERSSS
The Wraith in the game is Celebrimbor? WTF

Although the Nemesis system is the thing that has me fired up, I'm also interested in the story, mostly because of Monolith's assurance that they would stay true to the canon material (at least in the setting/timeline and themes if not the tone) and the pedigree if the lead writer Christian Cantamessa.

For those who know tabletop roleplaying, I'm reminded of Iron Crown's Middle Earth Roleplaying (MERP) line which also did crazy, crazy things with Tolkien's setting for gameplay's sake while rarely clashing directly with what the good Englishman wrote.

I appreciate that they are keeping the big story spoilers out of the press material but it's a tricky balance that can turn potential players off as some of the comments in this thread show. But if I compare the marketing to AC: Unity, where I had to stop reading previews because I was starting to piece together the whole narrative, this is refreshing.

The Wraith in the game is Celebrimbor? WTF

In Middle-Earth, wraiths are lingering expressions of a past sin - they can be redeemed, such as the Dead Men of Dunharrow who help Aragorn to find peace.

The Dead Men of Dunharrow were cursed by Isildur. That's why they lingered as wraiths in the mountain until they would fulfill there oath.

Yes, they commited a sin, but the sin didnt make them wraiths. It was the curse by Isildur.

Where did they say he was good? I thought he's using the ranger for revenge and refusing to let him die until he gets it.

I know mate, I was explaining how Celebrimbor fits thematically and how a wraith can still (begrudgingly) do good in Tolkien's world. I suspect that's where they're going with the Noldor ghost. They do portray the wraith powers as pretty horrific and invasive in the game.

I'm glad about the "no story spoilers" thing they have going on with their gameplay videos, but heck they've already revealed almost every single ability you can unlock in-game. But I guess I can only blame myself for watching.
One minor gripe I have is, how comes nobody knows to what extent is the Nemesis system going to be nerfed on PS3/360 version? I realise it might be a bad way to advertise their product, but they should really say something about it.

If it wasn't so grimm and dark looking I'll probably be more interested.

Mordor is not all ash and brimstone, there are several enslaved provinces with human architecture and slaves toiling grain fields (they showed Lake Núrnen in a recent demo), as well as Gondorian outposts resisting the encroaching darkness. So there are some lush and brighter environments in there - however the theme of corruption runs through the art design too. If you couple this with the extreme dipiction of violence, well, it ain't The Hobbit.

All in all, I don't think they can compete aesthetically with something like Unity's 18th century Paris.

I do like the look of this game with the exception of the main character. He looks really bland with strange, smooth features. Maybe he looks better in the cut scenes. The Orcs, Goblins etc and the weapons really do look good as does the environment. Just under a month to go!

I don't know, it still doesn't feel like Lotr to me, and all you do is combat? No where to sit down and enjoy a town, or do some trade etc? Will wait and see until it's out and see what people have to say about it.

Hey OP, i've just preordered the game, are you happy? :P

Too many games to keep in mind and follow, but the dev video sold me the game, a lot of fresh and bold ideas, really striking.
Now i'm in a media blackout, since i feel that i've already seen too much.

So, in the end thank you for your hype. :-)

You don't trade with orcs, you kill them. All of them.

I think we can have faith in Monolith in this regard.

Really? That's great to know, the game is very cheap on Nuuvem, the only reason to keep me from preordering was being worried about how the PC version would turn out.

I guess for the price they're charging it's worth the shot anyway.

Lol, I meant with humans, elfs etc, I guess I'm looking for more of an action rpg than a pure action game.

I'm kinda worried about that as well, though. I don't mind pure action at all, I love me some combat games, but I'm not sure if I'd want open world pure action. If all I can do in the game is kill stuff, I don't think I'd enjoy having to run for minutes from point A to point B just so I can continue to kill stuff.

I'll be picking this up on the 30th. The combat and nemesis system looks great. My only complaint/worry is I would like to know more about the NPCS, towns, side quests etc.

You know if the combat system is good and difficulty is there I might just get this. It looks cheesy as f**k but there isn't much else out that interests me and I think I need to look at some pixels that aren't FF XIV. I'll need word that it's bug free first though.
