Shadowrun Returns Kickstarter project by Harebrained Schemes [Ended, $1.8M funded]

Saige

I must do better.
Never played a Shadowrun game before, but I love this Kickstarter trend for RPGs.

Definitely backing this.

Speaking of Shadowrun games, the only one I've played is the SNES game and really enjoyed it. But I always read how the Genesis game is superior. What about it makes it better?

It's not necessarily better. They are just completely different games that each have their own fans.

The genesis version is more of an action-RPG with light story elements that take a backseat to a sandbox-y nature with randomized missions and stuff. It's mechanics better represent the Shadowrun system and the mission structure reflects an open ended campaign structure.

The SNES version is a really well done adventure game with light action RPG elements. It's better if you want something with a more defined story. Though it doesn't really use much of the system's mechanics, it better represents the Shadowrun setting and does a really good job showing you a very tight campaign.

Now THIS sounds like the Shadowrun I wanted made the last time around. Aztechnology? YES. Now we just need them to include lore like the nanosecond buyout, Harlequin's tale, and Renraku Arcology stuff throughout the game.

So pumped. Hope the game has all the little nuances like a slagged out bar with seedy characters doing BTL's in the corner.
Think porn that is wired directly to your sensory functions on ecstacy. Characters who were addicted to this suffered severe nervous system burnout and the slightest touch could do haywire to their brain as it would overload and send them into seizures, pain or ...other fits. Aint no bars as bad as back alley bars in Shadowrun baby. These guys were at least good to steal creds from and get freelance jobs from. Exploiting addicts :)

Does anyone know if Larry Holland is still alive or how to get ahold of him?

Now is the time for the X-Wing revival (sans license obviously). Anyways, I think I'll back this.

I see Notch buying himself the perfect day by pledging 10k for each of these Kickstarters.

Lunch, then some P&PRPGing with the Shadowrun guys, bowling with Tim Schafer and Ron Gilbert and then party all night with Brian Fargo, MCA & inXile.

Thanks for the explanation. I'll check out the Genesis version at some point, probably before this one comes out to get myself in the mood.

I was too young to play the original Shadowrun, but I'm in for this. At least if the industry crashes, I'll have all these Kickstarter games to keep me warm.

My fifth kickstarter already in the last few days... I am in sort of a kickstarter bender :(

Me too.

Whelp. I'm in so that's: Double Fine, Wasteland 2, Banner and now this I've given my money to in the last couple of months.

Guys. Lets space them out a bit please.

There is a real benefit to striking while the iron is hot.

I don't think a bad end product or two will kill anything. The combined attraction of all of these high profile KickStarters has likely continued and even amplified the buoying effect that started with DFA, growing the number of eyes on KickStarter, in general, by many times.

Man, this Kickstarter thing is going to be my ruin, this is my 7th one since Double Fine's one. I have spend more money on this than on actual videogames in the last few months.

Not complaining!

I was more a fan of the megadrive shadowrun but I just cant seem to say no to any of these original series designer RPG kickstarters, chucked in $15 now, will prop up my pledge closer to the cut off date.

It seems to be going up by ~$300 per minute right now.

To think that just a short while ago I was worried whether this one would make it!

well, this came out of nowhere

$15 pledged, they could very well hit their goal by the end of the day

hopefully the big publishers themselves will start pumping out 2D RPGs soon

When did this go live? It seems like it has fewer days than most other Kickstarters.

I'm definitely going to pledge $60 to this. I love the Shadowrun world.

In for 60. Will always support any promising FASA game. Assuming this does well (and it looks like it will), hopefully they'll consider doing a BattleTech RPG. I like the Shadowrun universe, but BattleTech will always be nearest and dearest to my heart.

Looks like the first comment was 8 hours ago, so I'd imagine sometime around then.

In. Please donate at least a little bit if you can. Looks to be halfway there.

That fucking ending on the SNES, the one image where they show Drake and it says something like 'I will see you in Shadowrun II' can finally stop haunting me.

Hehe, the "balling" of the Shadowrun (2007) producer made me chuckle, he is now forgiven and the project 15 dollars richer.

Even though ShadowRun on the 360 wasnt really ShadowRun it was still an awesome FPS I would like to see them continue under a new name.

We don't need them to anymore, do we? I mean, these types of projects are from the talent that exited "big publishers" either because they were laid off or they didn't like the ecology there.
