Shadows of the Damned (Grasshoppper/EA Partners) Announcement Trailer

Call me crazy.....But that trailer gave me a shadowman vibe in terms of what the gameplay may be like.
Could be very intresting.

Edit: Seems im not so crazy.

This looks very uninspired both in terms of gameplay as well as "art" direction.Even Yamaoka's music sounds like the usual, trusted recipe.Honestly this looks as if they were scared to experiment both in concept as well as in execution.I don't know, maybe i was expecting too much.

Disappointed.

14 year old boys everywhere are jizzing their pants.
The opening tune sounded very much like what Yamaoka had previously done and then it is followed by something that will be appreciated by the target audience.

If Mikami directed it, I'd be okay with it, most of his games have this b-movie vibe. But where is Suda? It is certainly cheap, but there is nothing really insane about it. Don't see his contribution at all, hopefully when more gameplay is revealed I'll finally see it. Probably EA went too far trying to make it appeal to a wider audience and it might lose all the charm.

Still at the very least it is a solid RE4-style game with questionable art direction.

Looks like it'll be a fun action game, but I expected more horror. I guess that will come from the story since Suda is writing.

The gameplay looks good which is mostly what matters but the premise, music and art really bother me. I outgrew this 10 years ago.

Totallly not what I expected. Bad graphics and ugly art design. Hopefully there won't be too much emphasis on shooting. Although judging from the trailer I wouldn't bet on it. :/

+1

wtf at the visuals. Goddamned orange and teal color grading, and no ambient occlusion.
Its got that gross overused specular look, reminds me of WET

Now that's one awful character design.
:lol :lol :lol
I'm sorry.

That guy looks like he's about to shit out some epic demon dung.

Edit...from the other Mikami thread...

The EA game -- a collaboration with Grasshopper Manufacture that will be formally unveiled at a pre-Tokyo Game Show press conference the day after this story goes live -- has Mikami in the producer role, with Goichi Suda directing. As of earlier this year, just after Grasshopper had moved offices to ramp up its staff to finish the game, Mikami's involvement was light; he would visit Grasshopper a couple days a month to check-in and give feedback.

Well that explains why this game looks so shitty. His involvement is "light." At least I can safely not pay attention to this game anymore.

Well there you have it. Excitement immediately waned.

It's hard not to be disappointed about that trailer. People were expecting some crazy Suda game with a Mikami that moderates his too crazy ideas, but the trailer shows nothing Suda-like at all. The vendor-scene was literally the only one that showed something of Suda's typical style. Everything else just made the impression of a brainless action-game.

In any case, it's not going to be a bad game. That much is for sure. But I just can hope that the trailer presented the game all wrong (for example, because EA can't handle the wackiness of the game) and it's the fucked up shit one would have expected.

Still, since I hoped for a slower horror game I will end up disappointed anyway. An action-game isn't what I hoped for - I could live with a "RE4 made by Suda" game, but this one does look like it's far more action focused than RE4. I hope it's just a wrong impression.

This is a weird trailer and definitely not what I expected...reminds me of From Dusk Till Dawn meets RE4/Dark Sector - I'm definitely interested in the game, the only disappointing thing about this is the use of UE3. :P

Ok... I watched the Trailer few times to post an impression about it, and yet... I can't form one!

I just don't know what to think about the game... :\

But honestly it has one of the worse characters design I've seen for years -_-"

And I bet if it weren't known beforehand as a Suda/Mikami game, people would have tempered their expectations and acknowledged it looks like it could be fun.

Isn't it funny how that works?

No they won't. Gaf is not that merciful, unless it come from known indie dev with solid credential, Gaf are not going to tempered their expecation.

Gaf are gonna rip this game apart. comments like LOL another shooter, RE4 clone etc. even Dead Space got shit on when it was first revealed and this looks worse than Dead Space.

Really not sure about the protagonist, but I like the Hellblazer style approach and weapon designs.

With Suda and Mikami involved, I'm sure there will be something unique and special about this game as well.

goddamn the pics look even more grotesque. Looks like a low tier shovelware port of some terrible Wii game to the PS360. Everything from the art to the more technical details of the visuals look just abominable.

I don't think it looks good (iffy facial animation, plenty of low res textures, wishy washy main character design, pretty low polygon monster models, jaggies in some of the shots), but this is a typically Amir0x post of yours.

In those pictures we see DOF, bump mapping (the floor in the second shot, the player's jacket texture in the second shot, a handful of high-ish resolution textures textures (floor in first and second shot, jacket in all shots, you can make out his neck tattoo very clearly half way through the trailer, the belt buckle texture, ), bloom, several other lighting effects (you can see that the shadowing is decent in the second shot, also when he lights the flare in the trailer), rim lighting (half way through the trailer when a black thing is standing on the top of a building with the moon in the background), fog/mist (near the end of the trailer when there's a guy with a mining helmet / headlight).

Here's a low tier Wii game ported to the PC.

NO WAIT IT LOOKS LIKE A 1994 PS1 GAME!!!!!!!! LET'S BUY THE GAME AND THEN POST PICTURES OF THE DISC AT OUR CITY DUMP BEING COMPACTED!!!!!!

falls in line with the tone of clover's recent efforts, actually, utilizing an almost exploitation film aesthetic with very stylized over-the-top characters and presentation. i'm neither over- or underwhelmed by it really.

Don't agree. Think this looks like a shitty port of a terrible shovelware Wii game to the PS360.

It looks fucking grotesque.

I think it looks like a shitty shovelware port of a ps3 game ported to the wii and then ported exceptionally well to the pc, then poorly ported to the ds, then ported in an average fashion to the MSX, then remade by kojima on the PSP, then ported to the 360. Live arcade.
