Shane Salerno tapped to write "Gears of War" film.

per deadline:
Universal and Microsoft announced their collaboration on the game in late 2016. At the time, Rod Fergusson, head of Microsoft subsidiary The Coalition that develops new Gears Of War content and the franchise co-creator, said the film would not be based on any particular game but instead be a new story set in the universe. That universe is the fictional planet of Sera, where a squad of beefed-up commandos living in a bombed-out postapocalyptic society battle swarms of alien creatures called Locusts.
Salerno’s current writing credits include the four sequels to Avatar for director James Cameron, which begin shooting in August, as well as writing and producing The Cartel for Ridley Scott to direct at 20th Century Fox, based on the bestselling Don Winslow novel. That film is eyeing a tentative January production start. His other credits include the Michael Bay-directed Armageddon and the Oliver Stone-directed Savages.

Inching closer to life.

Probably released after the Avatar sequel, just like Uncharted and The Last of Us movie.
Well, hey, people said the same thing about the Rampage movie and yet that's coming about April 2018.

It might or might not happen but I guess Universal wants this movie out sooner rather than later because it's a known franchise with huge multimedia opportunities.

I've lost track of how many times people have said they'd do a given video game movie and never done it.

I'll believe it when I see a trailer.

Never coming out.

If it does then I think it's a wise decision to go with an original story and original characters.

It absolutely has to be rated R as well. If they must release a teen friendly version in the movies then there must he an R rated cut for home viewing.

If a Gears movie doesn't feature someone getting chainsawed in half, someone getting their brains visibly blown out of their skull and someone else having their skull stomped in to mush like a water melon then they are doing it wrong.

Could Dave Bautista carry the Marcus role or would it need to be someone else? Also, please not the Rock. Dude is cool but starting to get played out.
