Shin Megami Tensei IV |OT| The Dark Souls of Persona

Just started playing this game yesterday and so far I am really enjoying it. It's my first Megaten game so I didn't really know what to expect. Just some quick questions firstly I just got past the first boss and I am wondering can I go back to the
forest
later on in the game as I didn't collect all the demons in that area. Also when in battle and a demon gets knocked out can you put another demon in that slot mid battle or can you only summon them on the field?

Anyone know where to fight Corpses? Not to be mistaken with Samurai Corpse

I want to recruit it through Scout+ but i dont remember where they are. I only remember them as part of an early challenge quest

Wanna hear a good joke? Waste your time helping me! LOL!
Dunno about the Dark Souls comparison in the title after getting dicked by RNG quite a few times in the first turn of a boss battle. Not much I could do on the first encounter when they get the first turn unless I read up on bosses beforehand.

Try and have someone with shock repel and use force attacks.
Shock repel is the one I need. Ridiculous how I blocked her physical attacks and she then gets a critical with an electric attack and goes to wipe out my whole team -.-

I was planning on playing this on my downtime during my trip internationally, but then I realized that the 3DS charger doesn't work in these outlets. So I'm really sad.

Converters are like $25 in any electronics shop, just make sure it works for the specific country you are in, I got one that works. In almost any country.

Fusion Error only. Of the Undead Only Patriots and Zombie Cops can be recruited through Scout+.

Also I really hate the Hunter Tournaments. Unless you're ridiculously overlevelled or have a specific team built just for them (unlike me, who carries around demons to learn all their skills and then fuses them) it's pretty much purely a matter of luck. Since they always go first its basically a matter of praying that they don't have an all-hit physical attack with which they crit and gain Smirk.

Need help, late game neutral spoilers:
ive done all the required challenge quests for the chalice main quest. Except for one, "Rebirth of the Lady". How do I trigger this quest? Nothing new comes up at the bar. Where do I trigger
this?

Thank you in advance.

Try scouting around. It's probably a quest from a demon

Yeah, you can go back to the forest later and also yes, you can summon while in battle (it will cost you a turn though).

Whatever happened to
Navarre?

Do I found out what happened to him in another path?

There's a guy you can talk to who can tell you what happened to him. I don't think he appears again after that.

he got "honorable discharge" from the Samurai cuz his parents paid a lot of money

If you do Neutral, after you get access to Mikado again, you can do a series of challenge quests ending with escorting Navarre to Shinjuku and Fujikawa to take him to a place with 'no demons.' He then tells you that "you must be a luxeror for treating him so well."

Navarre's a dumb punk who I should have gotten the option to kill.

That was the last one I needed, also. I'm pretty sure it's offered at Ueno.

This game is just so incredibly fun, how come this thread is dying down?

I just
saved Navarre
, so I'm not too far in, but damn I am having a blast. It is 4am and I can't get enough

Well, in the law path,
you can still do those quests, which means that you'll end up killing him in the game's ending.

It's kind of weird that even in the law path you don't get the option to side with the angels in that quest itself though. Yeah, let's betray your faction just to protect dumb Navarre... and somehow no one cares.

I just finished the neutral path.

Now that's an ending. I'm tempted to replay again through the chaos path, but i've already neglected a ton of games in the process.

Total playtime: 90 hours

There is a late game quest
where you smuggle him to Cafe Florida so he can escape angels attacking him. It seems his ordeal with the demons has mentally broken him and he doesn't even recognize you throughout the quest.
I'm not sure if it's neutral exclusive but I got it
after getting into Mikado after the alignment lock, getting a quest at K's Tavern to go to Kiccigorgi Forest to find some guy who was offering a few...questionable quests.

Woah, I didn't know that. Fucking awesome.

This is not Neutral only.
You can do this in any route, though in Chaos/Law, you would have to do it before the lock.

Fought Michizane in Camp Ichiyama. Mamudo kills my entire team except Ouroborus, who then proceeds to solo him since he drains Elec damage and resists physical and dark attacks, which is all Michizane can use.

So awesome.

Should you be doing challenge quests if you're going for the neutral ending? Do they give you points in law?

It's best to avoid them until you're locked into Neutral, because some give points in either direction.

You might do too many and when the point where the lock comes you might miss Neutral by a few points.

Aside from the ones you need to do to advance the story, that is.

You can actually do it after the lock on the law path. No idea how one would start the quest on the Chaos route though.

You just have to take it on before you go and open the Expanse in the Chaos route. The quest unlocks at the same time you have the Walter/Jonathan split from what I recall.

Oh, that one's frustrating. You need to have done the four photo quests. There are three in Shinjuku (picture of the bar, pictures of Ikebukuro, picture of the CDF base) and one in Ginza (picture of Louis Vitton). After that the quest shows up in Ueno.

So how do I get the exclusive challenge quests for the Chaos route? It doesn't seem like there is a equivalent to K's Tavern for the Chaos Path where you can just grab them.

OMFG finally done that required neutral path requirement :
challenge quests. Now I'm in Purgatorium and was doing great until Archangel Seraph. I realize I gotta fuse. I've been using the same demons for 5 hours now.

Is it OK to at the very least do the quests that give you that white samurai gear if you're not locked into Neutral yet? Because that stuff is useful and the quests are soooo easy.

When doing Neutral, the rule is to pick the 1st option in all dialogue.

Does this include the optional dialogue girl in Ikebukuro that can give you either +10 or -10? It's listed in all the guide's stuff. I don't know if I need to talk to her for +10 or not.

I tried adding up the points without her and I ended up at -17 (assuming that
"Destroy the Status Quo's -10"
counts towards that, if it doesn't it's -7 which would be Neutral). For the record, these points also include
picking Jonathan
, and going left three times in the
Gaea question maze
, like the guide says.

No, you need to avoid her.

Have you been using this guide btw? It's immensely helpful. I was able to mostly pick my own choices, and using whenever I needed to balance out my points.

Looks like I'm at the end of my Law Path. Wish I had gone neutral, but I'll save it for my next playthrough. Seems like it's the hardest to get.

Also, does anyone know the song that played during the
fight with Isabeau?
I really liked that track.

EDIT: Haha, I found it. It's just called
Isabeau.

Yea, this guide has the same things, I think. I'm just going to double check as I go, because I'm pretty sure I'm still ending up as -17 somehow, assuming the very last choice calculates into the points.

Edit: Hmmm it seems I was adding up points that don't occur given some conditions. Maybe it works out after all.\

Edit 2: Nope, -11. Hmmmm. This is actually worse because I'm at -1 before the final choices, which should(?) push you either +10 or -10, both out of Neutral. Can anyone confirm whether or not the final choices push you +10 or -10 if you have Neutral points before that choice?

Yes and no.

You can talk to her and still fix things and get to neutral.

Go left all three times in the Ring of Gaia's trial. That should get you back on track to neutral

But yes, it is best to avoid her.

It's crazy to me that people are using alignment guides for the Neutral route. I was just winging it and I got it.

I was worried when I found out that there were alignment points that I wasn't going to be able to do it, but it all worked out in the end. I've started a second playthrough that's going to be a Law run, but I'm trying to give myself a break first.

I enjoyed the game a whole lot. It's my first SMT mainline title I've beaten. I'm not sure if we count Strange Journey as the main series (I do, even though it's not set in Tokyo), but I couldn't beat it. I got Neutral on that game too, but couldn't beat the last boss. Ridiculous.

It's much MUCH easier to get Neutral in SJ.

Hell, for a good 80% alignment doesn't mean shit, aside from which demons help you. It doesn't lock until
Commander Gore comes back and asks you who you side with and even then it's painfully obvious which choices mean what in that scene. (And for the entire game for that matter)

I just wanted to be sure I got neutral, because that's how I roll.

Just locked into Neutral for the second time (5th Cycle). I think once you know where you stand before crossing that one threshold, it's not that difficult to alter the balance. I didn't use a guide the first time either, but I can understand if people are only wanting to go through the game once and get the most out of it.

I'm using a guide because I'm on NG+, and I do not to waste my time accidentally getting it wrong. Just winging it doesn't mean you'll always get it right.
