I've never played a SMT game? Are the stories related to each other? Would it make sense just to play 3 and 5, since those are the only ones announced for Switch?

Terrible port you say? I wouldn't be surprised if this gets dumped on PC at some point but if there is no English version then probably no PC port.

Sort of. Persona was not originally intended to be a megaten game and wasn't sold as one in Japan. Atlus USA added "Shin Megami Tensei" to the name for marketing recognition reasons.
