So David Poile offered Shea Weber straight up for Subvan and Bergevin was all like

Can someone break it down for us non hockey fans? Is this on the level of a team trading Lebron James?

I wouldn't quite say it's the same.

PK is like the most well liked guy on the team, does a lot of charitable work, loved the city of Montreal and playing in it. He was definitely a superstar on the team and among one of the best players in the league but he's not "THE" superstar of the league.

Imagine trading Lebron because he's too popular for an older, less-good version.

Yeah, that pretty much sums it up nicely.

Edit: True, he's not Lebron calibre - but definitely superstar got traded for someone who is on the decline. One for one. It makes no sense.

Actually thats a better way to say it. He isn't the face of the league, but def to his own team.
Management just didn't like a player who was good off-ice, charitable, (but black).

Its like trading lebron for someone thats slightly older and is more on the down-sloap while Subban was right in his prime. In terms of talent the other guy is less offensive oriented, but hes not a "showoff". God forbid you celebrate a goal.

When Price is healthy and saving the team's ass every night he's a great coach, though.

Yes, let hope Price stays healthy for his sake.

Subban isn't the best player in the league or anything, so not quite like trading LeBron, but he is an all-star-level player. Maybe it's sort of like trading Russell Westbrook for Chris Paul, straight up?

No. This is like trading Westbrook for someone who's still really good but doesn't have as long of a future.

Ha, I was going to go with Westbrook too, but was searching for who Weber is the analog for. Like, imagine if Harden was 30.

Anyhow, here are some numbers.

I can breathe a sigh of relief. Benning and Linden can continue being their terrible selves and I can still revel in mediocrity, which will feel like bliss compared to what habs fans feel

Hell, even my home city of Edmonton doesn't look as stupid as this.

They essentially picked Therrien over Subban. This is what just happened. They picked a garbage coach who cant win anything, over Subban. A Norris winner.
Yup, that's the impression I got. Their personality conflicts are well known, and the coach convinced management that PK was a problem. They failed to realize that it's the coach who is the problem.

But he speaks french therefore hes over-qualified.

Just took a few minutes to look at the salary and the stats and Montreal just got, fuck I dont even know the politically correct term anymore but they lost this trade in a bad way.

This fucking day...

Hall traded to the Bermuda Triangle Devils

Stamcock is dead

Subban traded to Nashville because he has no respek and doesn't play the white way

#Preds paid $56 million in real dollars for the last four seasons of Shea Weber. #Habs will pay his next $8 million check due on July 1.

They have to pay his signing bonus before he even puts on the jersey, haha.

Edit: I guess Nashville has to pay PK's, but PK's bonus is just $2M.

Explain?
What's so bad about Weber?

Is you look at the analytics he has fallen off a cliff the last couple years defensively. PK is still on the rise and he generates way more offense with his playmaking. Weber still has the point shot but his puck possession game pales in comparison. Then consider Weber is already on a serious decline and you have to pay him for I think 9 more seasons till he is 39. If he doesn't make a huge comeback Montreal is fucked.

Might have to rethink my initial reaction. Didn't realize this. Need to do some more reading it seems.

Unless they make a big splash on a UFA they're fucked either way. They just took out a huge offensive piece of a team that already has huge problems scoring.

I was with you, my initial reaction was more positive with Weber, then a buddy started showing me all the stats and it really paints a different picture.
