Well, if you've got points to burn I definitely recommend Moss' King of Fighters Skystage...just for the bizarrness. And you can not do wrong with Trouble Witches Neo (make sure to switch to japanese dialogues, though!). And grab Cave's Nin Nin Jump, a really good score attack and some nice achievements to go for. And Raiden Fighters Ace GoD if you don't already have it. RFA is easily the best shooter release on the 360.
Lemme know how DSIIX is, I'm on the fence about getting it instead of some other stuff I want.
And Sine Mora sucks
I would not wish Sine Mora on anybody. Dreadful. Truly XBLA's Söldner-X.
No need to fence-sit on DSIIX. It is equally as good as the first game. It's big sticking point is the DC-era graphics...but they are pretty fun and kinda quaint all in HD and 16:9, especially the wacky bosses which shine. Lots of modes and even a little bonus game. Also, interesting as a Cave polygon project. Grab it.

Yeah, demos are good! Sky Stage is pretty much despised but the SNK fan-service is just too hard to overlook!
And Nin Nin is a platformer/puzzler, but fun for the 400 points.
Also worth mentioning is the Capcom Arcade Cabinet collection...fllled with shmups (and a perfect port of Ghosts n' Goblins as a bonus). I just did two of the $5/1200 points to get the collection...got one code within minutes, waiting on the other.

Hey now, that's an insult to Soldner-X.
In all honesty, I can't think of a shmup I enjoyed less than Sine Mora in the last 5 years. It's pretty insulting.

yeah, looking at capcom cabinet as we speak! wish there was a disc version of this, but i'm a sucker for these; totally bought up the atari, data east, taito, midway etc ones before, and this looks to have some more stuff i don't think was on the PS2 capcom ones.

I haven't put too much time into it, but from what I've played I see no reason for Sky Stage to be as looked down upon as it is. I think a lot of people just assume it's a throwaway game because of the theme.

Oh, I'm with you. I've even got it for PSP! Game is very tough, though.
There's a demo on the Japanese marketplace. It's all us poor Euros ever got to play of the game (on the 360).
There is a good game lurking in Sine Mora, but without a patch to change a few key things (digital movement, powerup behavior, stupid garbage level), it will be trapped forever. But I still feel it's worth playing because it shows how you can use the genre to tell an interesting story, too. Plus the music and art is great.
I want this, but am confused by the text in the marketplace. Do I need BOTH the 400 point initial release AND the 3000 point pack, or just the latter?
The pack overrides everything, so you just need that. The 2000 point pack has every single release plus the two bonus games.

Can't wait for everything to arrive next week.
Trust me on this one, you don't have to know anything before buying Raiden. You'll end up loving it.
I'd pick the packaged release myself.

found a nearby gamestop with a complete copy of Raiden for $10, sold!

Hold up...how in the hell does that work? Deathsmiles 2X is cash only when I try to access it and buy it. How did you buy it with points? Is it point buyable online or something.
Explain. This is urgent. I've been wanting to get it for less than $30 for awhile and a points deal could do this for me.
Also Trouble Witches is great. VA is meh, but the gameplay is stellar. Great bullet cancel and time slow mechanic where you try to catch and heard bullets to convert to gold. Gives you a whole new excitement to facing bullet waves.
It didn't seem to work for me.
Downloaded the demo, then bought he full pack, but when I started the game it still booted in demo mode.
Ended up having to unlock the basic pack for 400 points and then everything worked.
No biggie though.
Just played a bit of 1942 and Gun.Smoke.
Man, these games are timeless. Love them every bit as much as the day the operator came to switch the arcade boards out back in the day when I grew up in a small cafe.
The emulation is top-notch as well.
Quite the menu tree though. But it's easy enough to flip the game display settings on Maniac Mode, adjust the controls for an arcade stick setup and go straight into Score Attack.
I wish we'd see a lot more of these kind of deals of this same quality.

Does it have any other purpose than slowing all the bullets down and running up score while making the game super easy? Because I was able to 1CC the game on level 1 difficulty without the optional stage on like my 3rd try playing the game.
Just seems like hax level overpowered, but maybe thats just what the Arrange mode is about.
Also does anyone know of a translation of the dialogue or the Achievements? I can read zero Japanese.

Yeah, noticed you online. I've been trying to get it to work for the last hour. I'm actually chatting with a dude right now. Says my licence key is assigned to a different console :-(
Now, I do have a couple of old US 360s but I've been using this system for the last two years in Germany. Maybe I'll do the 400 point fix if he can't help me.

Yeah, it is great. Waited months for it to come out. One day I'll hook up a 360 to the cabinet and this set will come in very, very handy. With all the visual options a game like Ghosts n' Goblins will look almost perfect on a lo-rez cabinet. I'm just gonna have to pony up for a UVC or Emotia.

You've got a lot of the essentials. Definitely get Guwange, DS II, Raiden Fighters Aces, Strania (both parts).
I'll jump in and support 0 Day Attack On Earth, developed by Gulti, with music by Go Sato (Raiden II/Fighters). It's not a traditional shmup, but it's a decent twin-stick arena thing. I beleve it's also got 4 player co-op, not sure if local though.
Arg, still delinquent on that (and Raystorm HD). Downloading the demo...maybe works with Hori twin stick?
Be sure to not buy 1942 Joint Srike. It's beyond terrible. You're better of getting 1942, 1943 or 1943 Kai on the Capcom Cabinet.
If the twin sticks are mapped to the analog sticks of the Xbox pad, it should work. Are they anaolog? The game uses analog input to determine thrust, so you'll need some level of precision there.
I really need to knuckle down and really work through Strania. I picked it up the last time there was a half-off spacebucks sale and never really gave it a fair shake.

If you set it up properly you can also download SOUL BULLET from the japan marketplace on your current 360 in spite of region stuff since its not region locked or ip locked and up for digital over there. Simply setup an account, download, and switch back to your other account.

If you're going to play Strania, try to get good enough to get to the Stage 4 boss. There's a lot of game up to that point which will help you get familiar with the game's style and scoring system. The Stage 4 boss is where the game gets pretty damn hard, and most people will quit, but if you can get there you'll at least understand the game enough to know whether it's for you.

Were you not paying attention to current-gen shmups at all? PS3 is like a wasteland. Great stuff on Wii VC though!
When no one was looking, the Xbox secretly won Japan. Nothing but shooting games and visual novels.
What's so bad about it? I was looking to buy it since I can't get RFA.
It's incredibly unresponsive in terms of button input, I have to configure the game to autofire because keyboard input isn't registering (this is on my work computer). This makes the game virtually impossible to play correctly, as it's hard to not kill fairies etc.
Slowdown is not emulated so the game is much harder than it's supposed to be. There's also tearing, it's very poorly emulated.
This is so disappointing. Don't buy Raiden Legacy. Get RFA - it's not even that expensive these days and it's perfect.
