Should Fox just make a Quicksilver movie?

With the somewhat tepid box office for X-Men Apocalypse, the future of the franchise is somewhat questionable. Sure they'll probably make more films, but it seems uncertain what the proper direction will be, and how they'll get audiences on-board without Wolverine and most of the characters stuck in the 80's.

At the same time, Deadpool and Guardians of the Galaxy were a pretty massive successes, and an indication that audiences are more open to less serious and less overwrought heroes that don't take everything very seriously. Quicksilver, as he's portatyed in the Singer X-Men films, obviously fits the bill. Quicksilver's action sequences were pretty much every one's favorite part of Days of Future Past and Apocalypse.

There's obviously hurdles to overcome -- one of those things being that Quicksilver is simply too overpowered to create sequences with genuine, believable tension. He either has to be nerfed in some fashion or end up facing foes that are somehow immune to his speed abilities. I think talented writers can get around this.....I assume the creative team on The Flash TV series does so on a weekly basis, but since I don't watch the show I can't say how successful they are at creating believable scenarios.

The second hurdle would be that I'm not sure if Quicksilver's actor can really carry a big-budget film. Most of people's praise of the character has been his abilities and his action setpiece moments - not in his dialogue, delivery, or characterization. This may prove to be a tougher hill to climb.

I also suppose there's the additional issue that while the Quicksilver setpieces are fun, refreshing moments in the X-Men movies, those setpieces would lose their effect if somebody made an entire movie full of them. They're effective in the X-Men films precisely because they clever, quirky breather moments in a movie that otherwise maybe takes itself a little to seriously. That contrast makes them welcome and refreshing, but 90 minutes of slo-mo fights could just get boring and redundant.

What say you? Is Quicksilver good enough to carry his own film?

hell no. really fun character though.

and i think they handled his powers pretty well when he went up against apocalypse. dude was an overpowered monster against a lot of people but somebody like apocalypse can handle him with ease. will likely be the same thing when flash goes up against a strong opponent in justice league.

edit: a spinoff would be dope if it was like some breezy 90 minute day in the life of quicksilver. i'd be down for that. almost impossible idea with the mindset of the studios though.

They do it on The Flash by making Barry an idiot who forgets how powerful he is depending on what will make the current plot more exciting.

I mean I love the show, but I gotta be honest.

They should try their hand at an X-Men movie first.

The only good way to do a Quicksilver film would be to have him be the only major character (except for perhaps another speed-based villain, or villain who is able to anticipate his movements or something) and it's all seen from his perspective.

The question then is how you make it interesting and tense. Honestly, while it would get kind of dull to watch him just do antics, it would be pretty fun to see how he sees the world in more detail than we have been given. Shit, maybe don't even have a villain, just have it be him using and abusing his powers and perhaps coming to better understand the gravity of the things he is doing (or isn't doing) with them.

Nope.

I mean there's nothing there beyond the powers. He has no real villains, his dramatic stuff in X-Men: Apocalypse isn't inspiring, and he exists merely to support other characters.

Maybe if the comic-books give him a solo title first and it runs more than a year without being cancelled.

The problem is that you would have to extrapolate his scenes from DoFP and Apocalypse and turn them into an entire film.

Doesn't sound like a recipe for success because those sequences are a fun break up of the main conflict.

I'd definitely go see it though, just being a fan of the character.

There isn't much to Quicksilver as a character.

He's kind of insufferable in the comics as well, but the X movies make him fun.

I don't know that a lack of character is a downside though; I mean, if anything it's a bonus. It just means that the Quicksilver movie can be used to give him more character. People already love him for his powers, now make him an endearing film icon!

A full movie centered around the overpowered plot device that is Quicksilver?

Evan Peters could totally pull this off. One would hope that the overwhelming positivity for Deadpool and the tepid response for Apocalypse would make this kind of movie more likely now than it would have been even six months ago.

Nah, they should do a Mystique movie based off the Brian K. Vaughn comic run where she plays a anti-hero-ish James Bond doing black ops for Professor X around the world with Forge as her M and handler. Would work well with the version of Mystique in the movies and Lawrence has box office pull.

I feel it would get boring after a while. He's a pretty broken character power wise. Who could actually give him a challenge in the X-verse?

Even *Apocalypse spoilers*
Apocalypse had to use an asspull
to stand a chance against him.

He should run so fast that he crosses dimensions into the MCU and also goes back in time to before Age of Ultron and then meets up with MCU Quicksilver and they have a buddy movie.

It could be a villain like Ajax. Oh, wait.

I kind of hope that the X-Men films continue to tank, and Fox pivots to having solo adventures as their main films. Then, start rebuilding the team adventures on TV (they've already got a series at FX with the writer of Fargo). Crossover when neccessary. Evan Peters is even at that odd level of star power where he could believably appear in both.

He was probably my favorite part of the movie. Actor just feels like he's having fun. I feel like more than one music video worth of his superpower might get old, But I'd probably give it a shot.

Pre-days of future past movie would be good, since he is clearly impressed they are also mutants. Maybe he only know 1-2 obscure ones, causes lots of trouble

See I don't even want that now, I just want something cool with Quicksilver not really having to overcome anything and just doing things how he wants, make it a character study about someone who essentially has his own world to himself

Who do I have to kill to get a superhero movie where nobody kills anybody? A no-violence Quicksilver movie would be such a breath of fresh air in every way.

Now that you mention it, there really isn't any that I can think of. Even The Incredibles and Big Hero 6 had people dying.

I like Quicksilver and his moments in X-Men. Not sure if there is enough there to make me sit through a two hour long movie.
I guess I like Quicksilver in short spurts.

This definitely sounds like the kind of movie I want. We could even see some power fantasy shenanigans of Quicksilver eventually coming to mature into his powers and appreciate the value of selflessness over selfishness

Overpowered plot hole of a character. Good luck.

This. He is well cast, and serves the purpose of providing cgi-candy for 2 minutes of their Xmen movies.

But beyond that? Meh, he is overpowered as hell in order to make those scenes cool, so explaining around that would just be stupid. The way Apoc rooted him was the dumbest shit I have ever seen lmao.

I really dont think a solo movie is a good idea.

Those two long boring scenes of everything else in slow motion were probably the worst parts of the recent movies. The novelty wore off in ten seconds and then dragged on and on.

I don't think he'd be able to carry an entire movie. I think he plays a valuable role as a character that gives you something positive to talk about until someone gets the franchise back on track. "That was pretty disappointing, but man, that Quick Silver scene..." was the first thing a friend of mine said when we got out of the theater.

If it wasn't for that mansion scene i would of left the theater because the only good scene in that entire movie was the mansion scene and that scene alone gave me hope it would of been a interesting movie but in hindsight i should of just left after that scene.

I would rather see a Quicksilver movie than whatever next mediocre x-men movie we are gonna get.

Pietro could support a 2h movie if they adapted not only more of his powers but also his personality traits and relationships from the comics. The character from DOFP and Apocalypse, however, is already set down a certain path and as entertaining as he is to watch, Singer turned him into little more than a glorified setpiece.

Sometimes you guys write as most of the superhero movie characters have interesting dynamics/character density/organic conflicts.

Just make a fun action movie about him. That's what most of this movies should actually be. Interesting action vehicles. Instead they are this trashy archetypal stories adapted to fit the characteristics of each super hero with some of the laziest filmmakers working today at their helm.
