Shovel Knight |OT| The 8-bit adventures of Butt Butt Goes to Europe & Australia

So I went into my first town last night and discovered the secret minigame, I was tired however and only did 63 or so bottles, needed 70 something but I was tired so wrapped up and exited the town if only because idk exactly how the autosave worked before turning it off and going to sleep, I plan to really explore it either today or tomorrow

This game looks downright stunning with 3D, so glad I bought the 3DS version. The pixel art is untouched, it didn't get compressed or modified because of resolution issues (as expected since it mimics NES-like visuals).

I was so pissed yesterday going to the eshop and not finding Shovel Knight there... There's no hint as to when it's going to release in europe?

No news at all, only thing mentioned is that they are just starting localisation which makes me think it is still a while off...

Propeller Knight rematch
kept kicking my ass until I remembered the close combat invincibility mechanic: for a few frames after you hit an enemy, the enemy is unable to deal contact damage. You just hit him as he lunges as opposed to jumping over.

I think I'm gonna try to Shovel Only No Upgrades No Checkpoints run through NG+. Shovel Only will be the harder bit, I think. Some of the relics (like the horn and dagger) make some of the harder parts so trivial.

Does anyone else still feel like the game is playing at 2x speed or something? ONly for the first couple minutes of playing and then I settle into it, but it is a little jarring when you first pick up the controller. I love it, the feel is amazing. And it looks great at 120fps with the strobing backlight.

Whats the highest everyone's gotten on the town mini-game? I think I'm around 213 or so. I can't imagine there's a reward for getting much higher than that?

Do we know which tracks Manami Matsumae composed on the OST? It lists Jake Kaufman as the artist for every track, she's only mentioned on a single track, on the arrange album.

This soundtrack man...
It's so awesome!
I've been listening to it all day at work.
It made my task of moving several hundred pounds of gym equipment much more tolerable lol.

Iron Man score: 1453. I have a long way to go...

Treasure Knight and Plague Knight's stage theme

A Thousand Leagues Below (Undewater level) and Flowers of Antimony (Scientist level), it has her name at the end of the title on both MP3 files

Is there a point to the grove with the king fish? I thought that if I fill my chalice and then visit him and drink it ("raise a glass to the king" or whatever) something would happen.

All that happened was that I wasted my drink. He also got pissed at me for fishing in his grotto. I'm probably doing something wrong.

Dude, you're running it at 2x speed. Turn off v-sync and it'll run at 120fps at proper speed.

I do think they could have used a few more wandering enemy challenges. There's only 2-3 bar the wandering champions.

Since those were all from high-pledging backers, I appreciate that they didn't just throw in a few more of their own, so it stayed its own unique thing. I think it was the "director for a day" level backers only, so people like Alex "The Hat Man" Hatzikides.

Played through the entire game in one sitting last night. Bought it on Wii U and I loved the presentation and humor in the game. (Hat merchant is best NPC) The gameplay itself felt a lot like Mega Man with some Zelda 2 / DuckTales thrown in. I'll probably play it on NG+ later, but overall I'm super impressed by this game. Definitely the best downloadable game I've played this year.

I didn't mean more of the wandering bosses. There were wandering challenges that were just a regular platforming level. I think a few more of those would have done nicely.

Oh, right. Yeah, those were great. I too would have like to see a couple more.

Is anyone getting random slowdown? Game was fine for me until I got to the Plauge Knight level and now I'm randomly getting slowdown. I thought part of this game being awesome was that it'd be like an NES game without the stuff that holds those games back (like slowdown). Just seems to randomly happen too.

No slowdown, but occasionally I get a very loud crackle sound as if my speakers are popping. Only happens about every 7-10 minutes and only when playing Shovel Knight.

Man, it's going to be a pain in the ass to get the no deaths achievement
without abusing phase bracer
. Instant kill spots everywhere. They have a lot of extra features to add. Three playable enemy knights, battle mode, gender swap mode, challenge mode - at least if they plan on fulfilling the stretch goals. I don't remember reading otherwise.

Thoroughly enjoyed this game. Said this in another thread, but this compliments Volgarr very well, where Volgarr is the excellent slow-paced platformer, and Shovel Knight is the great fast-paced platformer. Easily two of the best retro style platformers I've played in years, while feeling completely different.

About the story and ending:
Really liked the co-op end fight. Did Shield Knight come back for you at the end? I was thinking that catching her every time during the dreams might affect that. Maybe if you don't catch her every time, she doesn't come back when Shovel Knight is sleeping? Also, game didn't say what Polar Knight was up to in the enemy credits..

Wait, what? Did this happen after the credits? Because my game crashed during the credits.

Got on 3DS and it's so good. I'm using the 3 button configuration and it's really good. Hoping to see when they will add the rest of the extra features.

I just bought the two soundtracks, XD
The game is really well balanced it's challenging and forgiving at the same time, really hits the spots.

Found the problem. I first played with my DS4 using the xinput wrapper so it showed up as a 360 pad. Worked fine. All smooth. Very nice.

Then I found out there were actual PS button inputs so thought "hell, why don't I just plug it right in without launching the wrapper?". It worked, everything mapped right, PS buttons and all that. Cool. But when I was in game I was getting random slowdown at random points for seemingly no reason. Quit the game, turned on the xinput wrapper, re-launched the game, right back into the stage and no slowdown at all.

What a weird bug.

NG+ without any chicken and with only two checkpoints per level is hard as hell. Abusing bosses with propeller dagger still works just fine though. :P

Protip if you have a decent to good monitor btw: Set the Brightness to the lowest setting in the options menu. Makes the game look way better imo. Also do try with brightness maxed for a good laugh :P

Hey guys. I have a question about the Wii U version sort of. This is the first eShop game I'm buying and I was wondering if you get the Nintendo Club coins as soon as you buy it, if you only get them after you take the survey, or do you get coins for both actions? I'm not sure if I'll have time to play it this weekend so if you get the coins immediately I would rather just wait until July starts to buy this game

I think you get coins for both. It happened several times for me already.

It's gotten amazing promotion from Nintendo and Nintendo-related sites, so I'm sure it'll do fine over there. It's currently top #15 on Steam, which is pretty damn impressive considering the competition today.

Its doubly impressive when you think about the fact that those sales are all in addition to those who got the game as part of their backer pledge. The great coverage from Nintendo is a great boon too.

In fact I'd love to see some analysis from these Kickstarters with numbers for backer copies and post release copies. Do the Kickstarter preorders cannibalize post release sales any? Or is the additional funding from the pay what you want model - backer rewards a much greater revenue? How does the marketing compare to a traditionally published game? There should be enough releases by now to start doing some real fiscal analysis of Kickstarter as an alternative publishing platform.

I haven't downloaded this game yet, but I plan to get it on WiiU (and maybe 3DS, as well -- I hear the 3D effect is excellent). I saw the preview on GameXplain, and I can tell just by watching that the controls are super-tight, and that the feedback from hitting enemies or bouncing off hazards is satisfying.

I have to admit, prior to seeing it in action, I had sort of dismissed it as "yet another indie game with a retro look." They all kind of blur together after awhile... But seeing this one in action, it's so well-crafted and well-designed that it has that "extra something special" that gives it a timeless quality beyond the sum of its parts. Zelda II seasoned with Mega Man 2 and Ducktales NES, with Super Mario Bros. 3's level select, seems like an apt description.

Eager to try it myself. Last time I was sold on a "retro-looking" game was Hotline Miami, another case where the style works because of the substance.

What do you mean "Nobody playing WiiU version"?
Tons of people are already active on MiiVerse and you can see their posts in game. You just have to tap Digger's Diary on touch pad for the first time, and it will become active.
who said that?
