Shovel Knight |OT| The 8-bit adventures of Butt Butt Goes to Europe & Australia

It was a ranking poll though, it wasn't yes or no.
Unless my memory has gone to complete shit and I'm pulling stuff out of my ass, anyway.
Oh it was ranked I just remember who I put first 'ones I voted for' and the one I put last 'voted no' sorry for the bad terminology. Anyways I hope King Knight gets a bunch of hilarious stuff.

Oh and I hope for 'Super Shovel Knight' we get more Troupple King, all hail!

Anyone that has access, and has the means to get this game, should. I haven't been this happy with a game purchase in a very long time. Lately it's been tough for me to sit down and play a game at length. This game has revitalized that. I put 5 hours into it today. It's such a kick in the nostalgia. Easily one of my favorite games this year.

Propeller Rats are one of the the best enemies I have seen in forever.

Ok I'm kinda stuck on the lava level. There's a room right under the one with the green slime things. It has those lava blocks that destroy themselves in order from where you hit and has a red knight. I can't seem to outrun the blocks before falling in the lava.

Don't destroy the big block that are connected to the blocks right above the lava.

Edit - Regiruler's right. I had forgotten about that part.

If it's the room I think you're stuck in, cancel the downthrust with a slash.
where do i find..

the propeller dagger in the flying machine level?
You know that part where there are two uplift fans right next to each other, and they blow you to a room with 5 jellyfish forming an electric floor? Shovel Drop from the jellyfish room so you have enough momentum to dive a bit into the wind and hold right while you do so. There is a secret entrance
.

What is this code, exactly? Haven't seen it explained anywhere.

If you are referring to this code in particular, it's to activate a special mode for the Iron Man of Gaming competition for ScrewAttack Gaming Convention 2014. A timed run of The Lost City in which you try to collect as much gold within the limit.

If you mean cheat codes in general, shovel knight supports cheat codes via inputting them into the name input screen. Only one code and it's effects are currently known, but the "dirt" reward tier rewards each backer who selected it with a (allegedly unique) code. In addition to this, some teased fan modes, such as the mythical "butt mode" (a development gag from the last days of the kickstarter campaign, although apparently they made it real) are unlocked via a code, most likely due to not being polished enough for full implementation into the game.
Lol I had no idea you can cancel that I thought you had to land first.
The technique becomes incredibly important later on. I think some of the later boss fights use it as well.

Really liking the game so far, but I don't know if I'm too much a fan of the controls on my original 3DS.

The D-pad is okay, but can be annoying at times, and the circle pad isn't exactly perfect either, but I imagine i'll get used to it.

starting to feel like I should have picked it up on Steam :(

lol as soon as i posted my original post, i fell down like 2 flights and got into that room accidentally. i had the biggest :O on my face. thanks though!

Does every level have a relic hidden in it? I've been through the first level twice and feel like I'm either blind or looking for something that doesn't exist.

Yet another 3DS game the UK has to wait for because of Europe. I realise in the grand scheme of things, waiting weeks, months or even years for games the important English-speaking country already got is very, very low on my list of personal importance. But it's still a fucking pain in the arse.
At least Shovel Knight's got a date of 'Maybe a few weeks?', instead of SMT4's 'Fuck off you dirty cunts'.

New Game+ feels much better than the OG regular game since there seem to be less checkpoints and you get hit for more damage.

I have to say that I still agree with Dario with respect to Spectre Knight's stage (which is just awkward to me considering the NES stages it takes notes from regarding making the PC/enemy sprites visible when required, and I'd love to know why they made decisions they did with enemy/PC sprites there), and the fact that the PL should be nerfed, mega-time.

Otherwise, the game's pretty good. I like it. I realize I was sounding pretty negative towards it to some people when in reality I was pointing out what I don't like about it. But the truth is, I do like the game; it's just flawed in some spots.

Especially the B button being confirm.

Plains? I don't think that level has one but I could be wrong, maybe the fishing rod is actually there. If you ever miss a relic you can just buy one from the village though.

I searched but didn't find anything on what the cipher in the Hall of Heroes is for. Has anybody found any codes using that?

Can someone help me out here with a technical problem? I bought it on Steam and have the game installed to an SSD and the game seems to run really fast, like a LOT faster than the youtube videos I've seen. However, if I run the game while I have anything displayed on the second monitor next to me, the game will run a lot slower and choppier and be very inconsistent at the same time. This is also the case if I run it at full screen and have it set to display on any monitor besides my main one. So basically the game either runs disgustingly choppy or at what seems like 2x speed.

There's an issue with 120hz monitors. Turn off v sync or whatever the option is.

So, yeah...ive been doing no checkpoints throughout the game, besides the intro...its brutal...

If anyone else has been doing this, and finds the game easy, its you.

Same. It's very challenging. I can see how checkpoints would make the game seem much easier. When you're not, just one mistake means doing the entire level again (and again and again).

Really loving this game, just got up to the third set of levels and beat Polar Knight. I am wondering when they're going to fix the Steam Cloud issue though.

I received an e-mail reply from Ian about 3D Vision on PC. They have been looking into possibilities but lack the necessary hardware for testing in-house. He mentioned that it would be a fun challenge for them down the road, so I'm hoping for an update at some point. Seeing as people are loving the 3DS version's implementation, I can only imagine how good it would look on my monitor.

6 stages in, my universal strategy is to pogo down everything to death, and if they're immune to it, use the special attack that charges up after 2 hits. Seems to work too well.

I'm probably picking it up tonight on the 3DS as well. I love stereoscopic 2D games on that thing. I'm only worried about the resolution, and whether it's clean or stretched across the 3DS screen.
I'm not a resolution junkie, but it looks and runs fine on 3DS. The only issue with the 3DS version is you have to deal with playing it on the 3DS instead of using a much more comfortable controller on either steam or wii u. That being said, the 3D effect is pretty cool and I never turn the slider down durring the game as a result.

So im tempted to make a drawing of shovel knight, tending to his garden, with a tiny shovel, with an apron on, waiting for his sequel. If theres a talented artist out there that can pull it off well, by all means.

Beat it. One of the best 2D Action-Platformers I ever played and that includes all Castlevania games. Everything is perfect and nothing annoying or tedious.

You can tell a game is perfect when even the underwater Level is fun.

Shovel Knight 2 pls!

Decided to try the fishing rod in the lava and died gloriously when the lavafish knocked me into the lava. This game is surprisingly funny.

I rarely feel obliged to post comments, but this game is glorious. And that soundtrack. I've only annihilated four bosses so far, but now I want to go and play the Mega Man series. Although, I think I would be disappointed because Shovel Knight takes the best bits of several games and marries them into a superior whole. Kotaku's review nailed it for once. For me to actually feel a game has lived up to the hype is rare, but I'm in love.

3DS XL version BTW. Handhelds every time for me.
