It was probably a "bad" financial decision, but a brave path to keep Fumito's vision.

The end result is an unique and beautiful piece of software.

This also explains why TLG looks like the PS3-footage. It could barely run on PS3.

Anyway, game was amazing.

Glad it wasn't cancelled. Even if here and there feels a little stiff to control yourself and Trico behavior, i loved the game.

Dropped manly tears with the ending.

The gameplay they showed which was running on PS3 was running at 10fps (or 15fps, not sure) then multiplied to reach 30fps.

Such a game will never be released on done by Playstation anymore. Not since the managers are running the company.

Well, it was a PS3 looking game that ran like shit on a PS4. So no surprise.

Still a masterpiece, tho.

It's too bad the game bombed because all the "muh childhood" people who gushed about the E3 2015 re-reveal never actually turned up to buy the game.
 
It's fucked up that they designed the game around PS3 and it was running like this...

I'm glad that it was released. Where is 60fps/pro patch Sony? Disc release can do 60 but it lacks some fixes.
 
Mr. Shu is the antithesis of the corporate madness that now rules at Sony. He must be appalled by what these clowns are doing to his beloved brand.
If you really want to look at it objectively, isn't Shu the one that greenlit the projects that led to the closure of Japan Studio and PSVR was under his supervision?

Yup we got legit info from the man himself, director fumito oeda, the e3 2009 last guardian trailer ran on ps3 at 15fps, so what they did is rendered it slowed down at half the speed, then sped it up and showed at 2x speed at the conference.

Back when devs cared about pushing boundaries. Now we have AAA devs releasing 120 fps versions of their last gen games masquerading as next gen only games, and getting praised for it. Crazy times.

The setpieces towards the end of the game are still some of the best ive ever seen. right up there with Halo 3's scarab battle in chapter 5, and the numerous mgs4, and uncharted 3 setpieces.

Psvr was really competitive, it's with psvr2 that the idea was botched.
 
NiOh was announced in 2004 as a PS3 launch title and released in 2017.
That too lol.

Rise of the Ronin was in development since 2015 too from what I can find. It's simply absurd to assume that Sony will suddenly stop being patient on good projects because one guy left.
 
Better than Concord? Probably. But this is the worst competition ever since I don't believe Last Guardian made the 11 years development money back

Also², Shadow of Colossus ran at 15 fps in the PS2 and was only really playable in the PS3, so is this a trend for them?

People expected more stable framerates on PS3.
 
I liked it very much on PS4 but it's just a joy to play at 60fps on PS5. Kinda makes me not regret getting the console.

But yeah we're never going to get this kind of stuff again. The good times are over

I don't even understand how this works - what do you even do for 11 years? Are you just waiting for the next console generation or what?

Usually, you cancel the game or heavily rework it. But in this case they wanted to keep true to their vision which is commendable.

As if ico and shadow of the Colossus ran at better frames on the PS2..


At one point with shadow of the Colossus I felt like I am pressing space bar for the next slide of image in a PPP
 
Maybe they should have been making something else in the meantime? No lets waste 10 years on dev because the hardware cant do what we want it to do.
 
It's funny, I hated the game when it came out and played it all the way through so that I could say I finished Ueda's latest masterpiece. I hated the camera and controls, the slippery boy, the wonky physics, and how Trico just didn't want to behave sometimes, and then I returned it to GameStop. Fast forward to now, bought it again on a sale and played it through on my PS5, and I think I like it more now. I have two young daughters that love watching me play it, they react appropriately to all the set pieces, and they love Trico and how he behaves like a pet - it's just charming. Some of the best animation I've seen on a creature, everything is just so believable. Can't wait for Ueda's next game, looks promising from the teaser trailer.
