I am actually fine with the way the characters look in this game. Only way I would be pissed with ugly female characters is if it were a JRPG or other type of Eastern made game. It works for Silent Hill because despite it being Japanese, it's not the sort of game that calls for it, outside of Maria. These people have been in silent hill for what, 2 or 3 days? with horrors we can only dream about? Not to mention trauma they had outside of Silent Hill in their lives. None of these characters are going to look their best given the circumstances.
 
I finally dialed combat down from Hard. Flesh Lips was brutal and I feel like once I hit the Otherworld after, I was just too exhausted to keep going on Hard against the nurses. At some point it feels like every enemy is a mini-boss on Hard...around every other corner.

Man, getting dragged to absolute hell after Flesh Lips is some cruel shit. I was already shot and anxious as fuck from that boss fight.
 
Can anyone tell me if there is an optional puzzle in the Blue Creek Apts? I got a Strange Photo titled
Forever Together that has a blurry picture of Room 208 on it. I went back there after completing the clock puzzle and it was still locked. But when I walked away from the room there was some super creepy banging on the door
. Just wondering if there is any more to this?

Yes they are more photos in the game. I just found one before the first puzzle.
 
Only going through the first area like 2 hours in but if it keeps up this be in the running for my GOTY. Love it so far.

There's some really great things about this game imo already:

1. combat feels great and is (so far) the perfect difficulty on default
2. the map is very good and extremely useful. I love how it fills in.
3. breaking the glass is so satisfying

I've also just started Alan Wake 2 and while AW2 has much better graphics I'm otherwise liking this game more so far. Still very early in both and enjoying both though.

I love it on hard. Nurses? Stealth is best; when they go in "limbo" shaking head come frome behind and they will fall on floor to finish them

Or maybe they didn't manufacture enough copies and the physical sales were better than expected?

No I mean I did Flesh Lips on Hard. I figured out on my second tries that you can shoot the arm and he drops to the floor stunned each time. That helped greatly.

It's not even the game being too "hard", just the combination of how fucking oppressive the sound design and environment is, how dark everything is AND the difficulty finally rekt my ass lol.
 
This was probably done in the original, but the first contact with pyramid head is so fucking well done.

It's a legit I'm coming to get you. If those bars weren't there... And the way they handle the lightning and the breathing effect you start to hear in that area. It's like the son of a bitch is right behind me.

The Japanese voice actors are great. Maria especially. It lends incredibly well to the J-Horror vibe. Highly recommended.

I'm at the Hospital and still on the fence about certain things, but I will save those thoughts until I've finished the game.
 
So, just finished up with this, 13 hours.

Boy was I wrong before, I had a really great time with this. When it was inevitably announced, as somebody who doesn't love the original, I thought they'd do something to butcher the story that the diehard fans of the original love, and that newcomers wouldn't "get it". Instead, they do nothing to ruin the original's story, and in fact the new endings they've added fit perfectly and wouldn't be amiss in the original game. The updated gameplay and VO transform it into something that frankly - for me at least - is better than before, and fans of the modern Resident Evil remakes should have a good time with this.

The atmosphere in the game's incredible. Extremely creepy in both visual and sound design, if you're not a horror person and you're checking out this thread to see if it's playable, I wouldn't recommend it - there's a lot of time spent in extremely dark environments with only a flashlight for company. If you are a horror guy, this is the perfect spooky Halloween season game, it's one to turn the lights off for and it's absolutely made for playing with good headphones.

If there's any criticisms it's that yeah, it's a little too long in the tooth and quite repetitive at parts. But if you've got 12-16 hours to blast through it, and can take a scare or twenty, I'd definitely recommend it.

In the UK, I can sell it on eBay for more than I paid for it, on Amazon it's out of stock for a few weeks and they bumped the price up. Wild.

This is because the flashlight is off, the modder is showing it so you can see that there is no fake light and the mod is working as intended. If you turn on the flashlight which you have 99% of the time, the character will have a realistic light around him without looking weird as the default fake lighting that makes no sense to have

This is how my game looks right now with the mod and a flashlight on, this makes sense. Having a fake lighting following you around makes no sense

This fucking game man. It's the first game in a long, long time I'm putting off finishing 100% because I don't want to be done with it. All the nay sayers and original version stans, I get it, I love the original too. But you cannot deny that this is special. It's not only my GOTY, But honestly I think my favourite survival horror game of all time. I absolutely love how bloober have handled it with so much respect. Eagerly await what they are going to do next.

Looks weird TBH, someone made it to look to match their preferences and called it a fix. I had no issue with her looks and prefer her standard look over this "fix".

Came to my senses this morning before playing again. I was just being a bitch. Put it back to Hard before diving in again and took a few confrontations to really learn the nurses' combos and it clicked a lot more. Also been kneecapping Mannequins like crazy now and it feels so violent to beat them after.

I never expected to have nuanced combat that demands to be properly learned in a Silent Hill game, let alone by Bloober. Respect!
 
Currently in Hospital v2 and it's such an amazing experience to see this changed environment that you just went through. It's a little hard to understand what's happening and why (though I have my theories), but I'll wait to see the ending before jumping to conclusions.

In terms of gameplay, it started to feel a little repetitive with just exploring the same map and killing the same enemies. I wonder if the game will be able to keep this gameplay fresh going forward.

The atmosphere is still outstanding, so can't wait to play more next weekend.

I'm now running the game maxed out, 4K DLSS Quality, and the game now runs at a virtually locked 100+ fps and stutters have been pretty much completely eliminated on my 7800X3D/4090 rig. Wonderful experience now.
