[Rumor/Grain of Salt] Silent Hill 1 & 3 remakes by Bloober Team in development

SH3 first would only work if they just recap SH1 somehow. SH1 could also just be a remaster instead of a remake and come bundled with SH3.

Many ways to do this but if SH3 is a direct sequel to 1… you can’t just plop this out there.

I think they’ve remastered the originals enough, and to underwhelming results. They need to do full-on remakes of at least 1 and 3 in order to actually move some units. Fuck the OG fans at this point, seize the momentum of new fans that came in off the heels of SH2 and just keep doing remakes - they’ll dovetail more naturally into any new titles and bring the series into the now. I’d imagine they’re already aware of this approach.

I can only wish cybill sh 1 is not turned to having stronger jaw than before. Her jaw is already strong, please no more...

Hope so for sure. Was completely against bloober team from the start. But after SH2 Renake I don’t want any other developer to be working on these remakes.

Silent Hill 3 is an easy pick for Bloober Team and Konami. The original SH3 was already built on top of SH2, reused a lot of assets, and even the same part of the map. Partially the same map, same combat, same mechanics, same assets. They just need to take the SH2 remake and rebuild a new story on top of it.

But I honestly can't wait for the SH4 remake! Because that game probably has the best premise of any horror game. That idea of being locked in your apartment and escaping through a hole in the bathroom into some creepy other world is so unique. But the original SH4 was so rushed that a game with such a brilliant idea felt clunky and sometimes just plain annoying with that horrible inventory system (every 5 bullets take up a slot in a very limited inventory), visiting the same place twice, annoying as fk unkillable ghosts.

Remake has every chance to take this great premise and build a great game around it.

They did a great job and made the best out of the old Team Silent’s heroes supervision. Great display of skills while being humble.

Remasters were underwhelming because Konami's fault. It's not like they can't use a ps2 copy and make a more competent job. Or even pay the Enhanced Edition boys for the PC version. There are even Castlevania, Contra and Metal Gear recopilations, but the last one of Silent Hill was that awful HD Collection so many years ago and it didn't even have the first game. If classic entries weren't nicely ported and with a better accesibility isn't enough then. If we talk about movies and not videogames this would be out of question.

And about thinking only in the new fans...well, in that case Konami would focus more in new entries instead of only using beloved games stories for one remake after another. Because in the most cases, a remake is about capitalizing popular games. Also there are still new fans playing the originals for the first time. I think originals deserve a better place than just the Jack Sparrow territory and it's not like making a decent port/remasters of such old games is an big odyssey, Konami isn't exactly an indie company. If they want more remakes fine then, but it isn't an excuse for, again, leaving the originals only for pirating methods. And no, SH2R isn't the 'same as the original but updated'.

Edit: and btw, Merry Christmas to everybody!

After the massive success of the SH2 Remake, it’s crystal clear they’ll go ahead with remakes of 1 and 3 as well. Honestly, I’m counting down the days; I can’t wait to dive back in !

i bet they are going to make cybil look very tough and no nonsense
Well, she was already 'tough and no nonsense' in the original. She was just a secondary character. Hell, even Harry wasn't the central character of the plot despite being the protagonist of the game.

I just think at this point if Konami gave a shit about maintaining the legacy of the original games by sprucing them up and keeping them available, they would do it. I would be curious to know the sales numbers of the last round of remasters for the series - those numbers must not be impressive enough internally to warrant maintaining the originals. I can understand why that is a bummer to some, but we gotta be honest that the longer time goes on the worse those titles look and play. I agree they should be preserved, but I also understand why they aren’t prioritized.

They need to be careful with Silent Hill 1, maybe even more careful than with SH2. There's a corniness there that would be very easy to fuck up. It's not the same depressing tale as SH2. But in Bloober I trust, they hit it out of the park with the 2 remake.

SH 1 remake is unnecessary though
I think that's the other way around.

At any rate, I would love it if for the next 6 years Bloober goes back and forth between Cronos games and Silent Hill games, essentially becoming the Kings of Survival Horror, at least in the Western realm of developers.

After Silent Hill 2, they get a blank check from me. Possibly the best melee combat feel I've ever had on a Survival Horror game. Which is INCREDIBLY impressive once you stop to think that these guys were all about walking simulators, up until recently.

But holy fuck, they need to optimize their games. Westside apartments on my PC ran like shit, and it was refreshing to be on the streets of Silent Hill, where the jankiness is a LOT less.
