Silent Hill 2 Remake PS5 Pro Patch Is Still In The Pipeline

Silent Hill 2 Remake is still set to receive an update to improve its performance on PS5 Pro, developer Blooper Team has revealed.

"We're working with the publisher on a solution and will share more details as soon as we have them," the company said

Silent Hill 2 Remake was given PS5 Pro support late last year, although it came with a number of unwanted technical issues that have lingered despite Bloober Team releasing a patch in an attempt to iron them out. Folk had assumed that Bloober Team had abandoned plans to continue fixing these issues, but the above statement has at least reassured fans that a fix is on the way.

My guess is they had to wait/work longer to implement a newer version on PSSR. As it stands the "fix" was to disable PSSR in performance mode but quality mode still has awful flickering (mainly affects the starting areas). I wouldn't expect enhancements to RT or much else, it'll just be quality mode cleaned up.

Performance mode is fine as it doesn't use PSSR after the last update.

Lots of pixel crawling/shimmering and weird graphical shit especially when it comes to wet surfaces/puddles.

It's a very uneven looking game when you also take into consideration the weird character models and mediocre animations (and various glitches), then again , this is Bloober we're talking about so...

I know I'm gonna get flamed for this but this game/franchise deserves a much more competent and generally speaking, better developer, Bloober team was the easy , cheapest solution IMO.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't most PS5 Pro games that use PSSR in quality mode, which is usually locked at 30 FPS? So wouldn't that mean the +30% increase would be wasted unless the cap got increased to 40 (ala Alan Wake 2)?
a lot of games use PSSR in performance mode too , 60 fps with some dips
40 fps modes are always good like in days gone , but that is upto the developer if they want to implement that mode
the tweet is specific for UE5 based games on ps5pro , dont know how it will affect non ue5 games

with the recent update to Unreal Engine 5, as stated by the twitter post, a compromise of a locked 40fps with all the ray-tracing features as Quality Mode is the best option.

I platinum trophied Alan Wake 2 on my PS5 Pro on Balance mode (locked 40fps) on my OLED B4 TV and it was phenomenal.

Considering Silent Hill 2 is similar to Alan Wake 2, implementing it would be the best of both worlds. I'm currently doing a Balance mode play through of Black Myth: Wukong, resuming my playthrough as I was unsatisfied with base PS5 performance, it's been one heck of a ride.

Don't know man, personally, I find 40fps modes almost as horrible as the 30fps ones - and especially when it comes to OLED, the 40fps modes are akin to the 30fps ones of yore since 30fps on OLED is juddery, something which the 40fps eliminate but, in the end it feels more like a "proper" 30fps for this type of TV.
Maybe 40fps feels faster/better on an LCD/FALD/miniLED but on OLED it's mostly there as to eliminate the judder.

AW2 had mediocre to bad IQ no matter the mode selected IMO and even on the Pro I had to finish it on the performance mode, same with BM Wukong.

Just my 2 cents

Didnt this game come out like 8 months ago?

It's still awaiting a patch? JFC

But it did ... didn't it?

It got PSSR update then a future update that stripped PSSR from the Performance mode. Considering there's no PSSR support on base PS5, that is genuine Pro support.

I've been waiting for this shit. At least nice to hear they didn't abandon it although it's always corny when they take eighteen hundred months just to say something. Just get on fucking Twitter and go "yup gonna work on it when possible, stay tuned".

As the new games I actually want to play, or replay, pile up, this would certainly help to sell me a Pro.

It's good that it's finally going to (hopefully) be completely fixed, but as I said in the Pro thread the current iteration of Pro support is really not bad. 99% of the game is fine. The only area which has the really bad reflection quality is the very start area and one near the end. The rest of the game looks visually sharper, and according to the Pro thread on Reeee which autistically catalogs this stuff, the ambient occlusion is improved too. People who chose to wait for the patch have been rewarded but they really could've just played a fantastic game months earlier.

Which is odd with Callisto Protocol. Been going through it on the Pro and it is surpassingly silky smooth. What kind of voodoo magic is this!!

I think it was just very optimal for UE4 - not to big levels, corridors between them that allow loading, I think levels are also separated by loading screens (I'm not sure about that). OPTIMAL use of the engine that is shit for open world but allows games to look GREAT when used properly (Callisto is still one of the best looking games).

I look at beautiful Mafia screens but I KNOW this game will have performance problems...

I still have to get the other endings, not that I'm complaining since it is a great game that i enjoyed on Ps5, but the prison is really challenging and the depressing atmosphere, to repeat it all over and over again. I do hope they add a DLC , especially the Born from a wish for a different challenge.

It's a very tough game to disgest. The first half is tolerable but when prison coming it's a torture for my nerves.

Best final act of a game ever and it's not even close.

Honestly, this game strung me along until the end but it has such an amazing payoff if you are lucky enough to get the right ending. One of the games this gen that I truly loved.

Also as many have stated, the horror in this game is real for once. Pretty amazing stuff. The pace is pretty slow and maybe a little padded but that only served to up the tension for me. After playing AW2 then moving to this, it is hard to find fault with anything in this game when AW2 did everything so much worse, just being honest. The end of AW2 was such a rush job and the end of SH2 is the best end of any game ever.

I think it helps if you have a basic knowledge of human psychology. If you like Persona/Jung then you will love this game imho.
What do you think the prison represents? Something James is afraid of happening to him after what he did? It is open to interpretation but every little detail in the game matches up well to what you would expect if you truly do an investigation into it, it goes much deeper than you expect. Like, why nurses? There's a reason. James psychology isn't really certain(they want you the player to determine) is he a family slayer, is he an angel of mercy, is he a creep or is he a hero, or did bigfoot show up and do it all, you can find out but only you and your answer will always be how the game actually is in your eyes. It is a work of art.

This takes too long...

Alan wake 2 also could use some patching. Controls are terrible sluggish and its still grainy a bit
Remedy on console it's not a good match. They could at least update the PSSR (the last patch anyway added good stuff) with the last version but they haven't the resources neither the interest I imagine.
