Should surpass Silent Hill 2 tomorrow and go even further beyond that by the end of the weekend.

A pleasant surprise, to be honest. I wouldn't have predicted this would surpass SH2.

Not a huge success, but I don't think it's a total failure either. It all depends on the game's production costs and how well it performed on other platforms. Horror games might sell more on PS5, maybe? No idea.

Games like Silent Hill 2 Remake, Metal Gear Solid Delta, and this game sold better on PS5.

The game is doing around 40-50k if you count all Amazon storefronts (Spain, UK, US, Canada, Japan, France, Italy .... etc) for the PS5 version, Xbox version around 10-20% of that.

Bought it and instantly refunded it because I couldn't change the resolution lol, I'll get it later once a patch is released. I'll be playing A W2 instead.

Given SH2's soft numbers, whether surprising or simply a confirmation of the IP's actual, limited reach. I wonder if the SH2 remake would have overperformed with a better PR/marketing cycle. And I have to assume this game probably had a smaller budget than 2´s. So, we have one game that underperformed and another that may only be performing in line with expectations, despite being marketed as a kind of reboot or reinvention for the series....

If I was expecting 5–7M for SH2 (and it only did 3M), then SHf should be around 3M 🤔. If SHf only makes 1–2M in the same period, this IP is basically dead (it hasn't grown at all). But if it reaches 3M (ideally 5M), then maybe this reboot could turn into the biggest success in the series and mark the path forward.

It's literally day 1.

Steam games usually peak on their first weekend, and if this is day 1 peak then it has a very high chance of surpassing Silent Hill 2 Remake

Yes, of course, but it's unlikely we'll see a huge spike in players over the weekend. It will probably be something modest, like around 30k players. That doesn't really change my opinion on whether this game is a failure or not.

It's going to sell 2 million copies soon, just like SH2 did. Considering the lower budget and expectations for the series, I think that's a decent result.

People forget that anything survival horror that's not Resident Evil won't do huge numbers on Steam... or anywhere else. From the top of my head, I can't think of a single other franchise that managed to get over 30-35.000 concurrent players.

IIRC Konami were happy with SH2's sales and immediately greenlit a remake of SH1. Okamoto mentioned that he was expecting a much more lukewarm response.

Silent Hill's future is totally fine for the moment.

I don't even want it to become that popular, it will just be RE4-ified by Konami to capture the "c0mb@t suk$" market.

Looking forward to Silent Hill Remake more than any other AAA survival horror title aside from a potential Code Veronica Remake.

I'm curious how it works behind the scenes, when Neobards approached Konami with their resume yet somehow won their trust.

I just love when a studio known for releasing garbage, in this case ports and shitty MP modes, finally runs a project to reach its full potential and finds success with it. We've seen it time and time again recently, mostly in Asia.

The game uses your system settings. If you have set your system settingsto to 1440p 144 Hz, for example, the game will use those settings.
At least that's what I read and can confirm. The game shows 2560x1440p 48 Hz for me, but I'm definitely not playing at 48 Hz.

But AW2 is a good game as well.

Which is a terrible system.
If you use windows "Scale" settings because you use a 4k monitor, apps and games that use the "system" resolution, think they run on 1440p instead of 4k when scaling is set to 150%.
I had this issue with a few games already and it is infuriating me.

Konami made the smart choice of picking up a random game dev based in taiwan and hong kong, if it's done in US this number would be a failure for sure but now it's likely profitable since the dev cost is likely very low. I am quite curious to see if this or trails FC remake's dev cost is lower.

Its a great game, it also has really strong word of mouth. I really hope its success for them and konami takes more risks like this

Those numbers are too high, this is not normie horror like Resident Evil. Silent Hill always was niche and that will hardly change, no matter how much combat they put in it.

How does it compare to Cronos ?

SHf is excellent, hope it finds success

I've finished Cronos and I'm probably 25% of the way into Silent Hill f. I personally prefer Cronos so far, but they're both really solid games.

Player-count wise, Cronos maxed out at 5,295 on Steam, unfortunately.

I'm still very near the beginning, but already satisfied with the purchase. Game looks great. Hinako is probably my favorite character this year. It's really well done. Probably the first time I've truly gotten Japanese horror. The Ring never really did it. Fatal Frame never really did it. This feels spot on so far.

I would just say, don't expect anything other than a story. Play it on the recommended settings, which is combat difficulty story, puzzle hard. Gameplay is very basic, and reminds me of the old SH games a bit. They couldn't be more clear at the beginning that you're just supposed to run away and hide anytime you're able. You literally don't even get a weapon until you run past half a dozen enemies at length. Definitely not a perfect game, but so far it's sucked me in.

Playing it with Japanese voice is required. More required than probably any game I've played in 2 gens. It's just much better. The entire demeanor and personality of the characters is distinctly Japanese. You can't just make English come out of their mouths without it looking retarded here.

I'm on the opposite side of TerribleAtThisGame TerribleAtThisGame and Kacho Kacho . I like SHf more. Finished (one playthrough) of SHf and I actually dropped Cronos (will return later) to play SHf. Unless Cronos becomes an incredible story later in the game i think which you'll enjoy more will depend on how much you value story vs gameplay.

Edit: I dunno what happened with the first post. Was tagging the two users who had an almost identical opinion and my phone browser decided to shift the whole page around which caused me to hit submit as I tagged the first person. 🙃

Yeah, I don't value story in games at all. Gameplay, structure, pacing are what matters to me the most and Cronos is far superior there (IMO).

Price killed it as usual. These companies will never learn. 50 euros would've given them at least twice those numbers. Hades 2 has been in early access for years and now at its launch its 3 times more than Silent Hill f.

I tend to agree in that great gameplay can carry a bad story more than a great story can carry bad gameplay. But there's a sliding scale to it and for me I tend to enjoy great stories with passable gameplay more than great gameplay. But the story does need to be really intriguing and well paced to keep me engaged. There's less room for error imo.

It'll be great if Cronos' story gets really good later in the game. From what I played it seemed to have potential on the lore side at least.

Edit: I will say that the helmet of Cronos' MC almost put me off the game entirely. It looks so bad to me.

I'm a day 1 purchaser and the game has been in route to me for ages. Should arrive today hopefully....

These are not great numbers. Hate to be the one to say it.

Gaf has soundly rejected Hades 2 because it is on Switch 2 and not Playstation/Xbox but even it has trounced this despite being in early access for ages:

So yeah this isn't a great sign. Maybe the game will be more popular on consoles.

I am having a blast with the game. I think I am almost in the end. Cant wait to play new game plus and see all the changes

My steam key order fell through so I'm finally playing more SH2 remake . . . maybe I should finish this one first. I'm at the hospital now in the game.

Comparing SHf to Hades insane and clearly shows that you don't have a grasp of sales expectations on Steam for either of these titles.

Poor Cronos man, between the BS Silksong shadow drop and Silent Hill f...
It deserved much more since not only is it Bloober's best game (low bar, I know) but actually a G'damn terrific survival horror video game.

Konami knew exactly what they were doing by attaching the Silent Hill name to f, brand recognition is a powerful thing...

its survival horror which has already limited appeal, its like with cronos.. mothersuckers on the other forum were dropping out like flies in the Steelworks area. "ohh its too hard im out" and there are many of them!

then its also a soulslike and i know many many were out the moment they heard this. plus this also has pretty clunky combat from many many opinions i read.

the price, dunno about pc but this shit is 80€ fucking euros for me on ps5. thats where i was out when i heard it has meh combat especially.

i will get it down the line on a 50% sale or so. Also its too close to Ghost of Yotei for me ,,which is another 80€ game...

btw i beat Cronos twice now and holy shit is it much easier on ng+
