This show is so fucking good.

The end joke of Richard trying to go eight steps at a time on the stairs had me dying.

And Jared fucks. Russ called it haha.

Exactly how fucked are Pied Piper currently, with the looming threat of former Nucleus members/N-Frame's Metalout team being bought by Hoolie?

Great to see Russ' 'prediction' becoming reality, loved it. Richard was so cringey with the M'lady stuff and 'Shall we away?'. I wanted him to stop but he just kept saying stuff like that.

This is pretty stupid though, as anyone who uses spaces would normally just use the tab button to create 4 (or 8 if they're so inclined) spaces. Just an IDE setting (or expandtabs on vim). Pressing the space bar four times is moronic.

Broke the suspension of disbelief for me, terrible episode 0/10.

Felt the same, first time an episode got the computer/dev stuff fundamentally wrong.

That and they overdid the hooli ceo joke. Should have stopped before that final bit,.

This episode slayed me. It was damn good.

The 'he fucks' payoff, 8 steps, shitty webcam bit rate, Gavin talking about the protesters. Everything with Jared was just gold. "Way to use that dick"

Aloha.

I prefer to think she was doing it intentionally because the guys told her Richard would freak out so we was trying to bait him. It worked.

I dont get how BigHead is broke.

How could that party cost so much?

He had 20 million

Assuming that massive house costs 10 million (half his wealth) there's the carrying costs (mortgage, hydro, water, maintenance, property tax, insurance), plus the fact that he's not seeing any revenue from the renters he has, then there's the frivolous purchase (helicopter) maintenance for those frivolous expenses, purchasing a tech blog with staffers that need to be paid and insured, carrying costs for the building they work out of plus the party where they rented out Alcatraz
and completely transformed it to be unrecognizable, plus fully staffed and catered it.

Those are all just the things that were MENTIONED. Can't say i've seen it but Big Head surely has a car as conveyance too (unless he takes the copter everywhere, which is even more expensive).

Carrying cost alone would drain a significant portion of his resources, and Big Head or his business manager have not once mentioned any investments that could help accrue more wealth.

And that doesn't even take into consideration that all of that was bought after taxes. Probably "only" netted about 15 million.

I've seen colleges argue about the tabs versus spaces before. There is a setting in pretty much every IDE I've used that says "expand tabs to X spaces" and most places want 2 spaces per tab. The spirit of the joke was good, so I can give it a pass. However, Richard losing his shit about it puts him in on a level of nerd below neckbeards with fedoras. The girl was hot Richard! When a woman gives you the "we can come back to my place," you keep whatever crazy fucking belief you have until after that's done. He's an idiot.

God Richard's "M'lady" shit had me cringing so hard, I really hope they kind of take a step back from that sort of characterization and just have him be regular awkward instead of like "m'lady" awkward.

I must be alone on this but I actually feel kind of bad for Bighead, I know he didn't earn that wealth in any way but it sucks to lose all your money like that <_<. I'm hoping he'll get back on top somehow.

Echoing "this guy fucks" as being the best callback ever, lol.

It's the best show on TV right now by a mile IMO. One of my favourite shows ever. The writing is just so good and the comedy is just gold. One of the best things Mike Judge has ever worked on. Just a genius idea with great writing, great characters and it's genuinely funny every week. Looking forward and excited to see more of the season!

Richard continues being the worst. I want that guy to fail so much.

Jared is on the other end of the spectrum and continues being the best.

I love the show but it's getting hard to watch Richard being Richard. Richard and Dinesh remind me of some guys I go to college with and it doesn't help. The awful people on the show hit too close home.

Richard is an idiot and the worst kind of nerd. I've met a lot of nerds and he is too over the top right now.

Also, yeah, IDEs have an option to convert tabs to spaces to avoid weird formatting so it isn't an issue.

Anyway, Richard is the worst.

Is this a real thing? Do people get this obsessed with tabs versus spaces?

LMFAOOO the "he fucks" jokes from last season finally paid off. easily my favorite episode of the season so far.

my professors are super anal about formatting. One class I had you could lose like 25% of your grade on an assignment if you didn't format it the way the professor wanted

Well, it doesnt matter until you start doing code reviews. Since git will mark everytime a tab is converted to a space (or vice versa) as a code change it tends to become a bit of a hassle to look for relevant code changes in my experience. So a consistent rule within a software project is in fact desirable imo, regardless of which solution you actually pick (I often hear spaces is preferable because it is consistent across the team, but personally I prefer tabs)

Yes, and that's why I love this show so much. Each character is very realistic, and more than just a stereotype. Richard and Gilfoyle (in particular) are very realistic depictions, in my opinion.

No matter how stupid that whole tabs vs. spaces problem seems to me, I am glad that it at least managed to stop this show going the way of Big Bang Theory.
Why is it that every sitcom goes the same damn route - girl/boy friends, relationship problems, marriage, kids... Glad that so far this is not getting past Step 1.

There is no need for that. I was glad that they didn't pursue that Monica angle earlier (season 2 I believe), and hopefully this episode will not turn into the first of "girlfriend of the week" episodes, which they then try to resolve with neuroses Seinfeld-style.

Loved the first two seasons, but this is sliding into stale and boring quickly. Worst character though is Big Head - yeah, we get it, you are a gullible idiot. We don't need 6 episodes of the same.

4 more episodes, I guess I'll stick around to see if they manage to dig themselves out of the hole, or else I won't care to return for S4.

That seems weird and counter productive. I remember we could choose our own style as long as it was something reasonable, and it was only important to stay consistent with the style you were using.

Code formatting is important people.

And I bet someone takes it that seriously. Some programmers are the worst.

All characters in this show are obvious comedic exaggerations. I'm positive there's no programmer in the world who takes it the same way that Richard does, unless that person has a disorder of sorts.

I know enough programmers to think there is probably someone that takes it that seriously.

For the most part it's good fodder to argue about because everyone feels like they can have an opinion--unlike domain knowledge specific to a certain research area or whatever. Same thing with source control, continuous integration, etc.

Sensible people just use clang-format and leave it at that.
