SimCity a disaster for you? Take a look at Cities: Skylines (not related to CitiesXL)

Cities XXL is just as buggy as Cities whatevah, dont buy.

Clearly you didn't read the thread or watched the video's or even read that this is made by a other developer and publisher not by focus interactive it is not related at all also go away with your drive by post.

Oh boy. This makes me really want to build some cities. So glad I never bought SimCity 5.

As long as there's a money cheat for when I get bored of doing it the normal way. Hopefully it's balanced enough that I wouldn't need it. The thing I always hated about SimCity was that I would always get to a point where my entire city is covered in abandoned buildings. I'm not good at mayoring. I just want to build.

Do people even read titles anymore?
But the beta thing, mmm, it doesnt seem he misread the thread, its like he knew what he was talking about (but of course, theres no public beta so he failed). I suppose he is not going to come back to say he fucked up (seems he doesn't like to read game titles he bugtested as much as he doesnt like to read thread ones lol), just to clear his name so we dont start thinking he just just a troll or works at Maxis.

EDIT
Seems he is from sweden. Maybe a real betatester for Colossal Order?

But thats what the betatesters are for, to erase game bugs before the games are realesed. So I dont undertand where he comes if he was a real beta tester.

As I read the developer blogs and watch the game play I'm getting even more excited.

Please let this be the city builder we've been waiting for!

My test will be if the persistent sims only take a dirt road as opposed to the 4laner to work.

I'm hoping that they will include maps for finnish cities or atleast their hometown. (not that hometown)

I really need to get rid of my 32-bit vista but I don't want to deal with the piece of crap touch device UI of win 8. Decisions, decisions.

You can make your own by importing heightmap data into the map editor.

I'm aware of that. The point kinda was that since they are a finnish developer and work in the same city that they might do it so I wouldn't need to wait/hope for user made version(s).

- edit -
And I mean just the landscapes, not complete cities of course.

You're on 32 bit Vista and you're throwing shade at 8? Lol.

Developers of the game, Colossal Order has revealed free DLC will be available shortly after release,
CEO Mariina Hallikainen said the addition of free tunnels and European buildings will be put into development as soon as the game launches.

"Unfortunately there's no time frame [for DLC] at this point, because we're still working on the game for release," she told Digital Spy.

"Right after that (release), we will start work on the tunnels. It will happen relatively soon after the release, because we will fully focus on that."

European buildings - which will be wall-to-wall city blocks - will "take a little while" longer due to them requiring "a lot of assets".

Hallikainen said it's a game "we feel very comfortable expanding" and will follow the same model at Crusader Kings 2 when it comes to post-release content, with a plan to release a combination of "bigger expansions, free content and smaller DLCs".

"Having such a small team, we can't have absolutely everything in the game that we want. So we're very committed to continue working on this for a long time after the release," she explained.

Good stuff.

So this is promosing right, not something disappointing like CiM2 (I know they are different genres, but there's that air of disappointment from CiM2)

CK2 model is good news. They've done a fantastic job of keeping their expansions fairly major, with lots of new systems to play with. Hoping that means I get my megatower goodness at some point.

What are you on about...?

Where does Cities XXL come into this?
Very many people immediately connect Cities Skylines with Cities XL/XXL. Hell, I did it too.

We should run a well-maintained PSA campaign, attempting to educate people about the truth.

Because: Cities XXL - buggy mess, instant -1 sale. But Cities Skylines is made by a different company altogether. There is no connection between these two games or developers aside from the TITLE.

I'm ok with CK2 DLC model.

2$ for small things like new building models, music or things like that
6-10$ for new game concepts....

A thing that comes to my head for the latter, would be introducing bicycles, including building bicycle lanes/roads, having bicycle renting stations etc.

When you think about it, Paradox is a much better home for the preeminent PC city-builder than EA. Let's just hope they can pull it off.

Sorry for the double post, but in the Angry Joe interview with Paradox, they say that pre-orders for this game are beyond their expectations (towards the end).

Good news for people who want this genre to get healthier with more competition.

All we need are good reviews and this franchise is going to ignite into a Paradox staple series.

So excited for this. I, for one, enjoyed SC5 and got a good 100 hours out of it. Not bad for $100, even if the limitations were rather disappointing and infuriating at times. Still bang for my back though. The music alone was worth a good $50 of the experience.

Meanwhile I have great plans in mind for a circle-inspired city/region, called Circopolis, with a big Parisian style city centre, circular shaped suburbs, looping crescent roads, and roundabouts.

"Gonna have to actually play the game to get a more solid opinion about this"

Pretty much.

I can see the benefits of still having traffic jams but not having them utterly cripple your city. However, the purist in me also wants to be challenged. Managing the traffic in SimCity2013 was actually interesting for me, as evidenced by my many posts in that OT.

Perhaps if there is a negative hit to money or resource efficiency or freight efficiency or happiness or some kind of negative hit for every time a vehicle is forced to teleport, then that would be an acceptable compromise.

This article tested out mass transit and gave an insight into the importance of traffic management. This gives me relief that the teleporting cars doesn't automatically turn the game into easy mode. Read the whole thing.

So, as for our final test we decided to completely remove our transport network from our city, just to see what would happen. Remember certain city builders, where you had transport options, but those transport options didn't really influence your city or towns at all? Well, in CSL transport is vital: removing all buses, metro and trains from our metropolis soon left it in ruins. No alternative to cars means a lot more traffic, which will jam up the service vehicles as well, the result in our case was garbage piling up, dead bodies everywhere, crime, fires, you name it, no transport suddently ment total mayhem, and we loved CSL for that.

Going to have to wait and see how that traffic thing plays out. Between that and the low-population per building thing, I'm starting to get the sense that simulating a full city of unique entities accurately is still just too hard for today's hardware.

Read the link above, sounds like traffic will be a major issue if you do nothing to address it at least.

Nice to hear that mass transit actually has an effect. And It was so aggravating with Sim City 2013 and all those buses congo lining the streets made my traffic worst.

And CIMs can transfer, too? So they will take a bus and then transfer to the metro if they have to? awesome.
