SimCity |OT| It's not the simulation or city that matter, it's <parameter: string>

Hey can someone in our NA East 2 region set up a department of transportation? I just did a department of safety. It'd be really helpful.

I've got 4 clinics, fully upgraded, and one hospital in my city. I've got no air pollution over residential zones and have no problem with garbage retrieval or dirty water, yet still it's germs all day, all night. I've got 23 people per day who are dying to it :x.

I'm in the mood for some SimCity. I have only ever played 2k. Is this junk working yet? Is the actual game any good?

I feel like I'm better off just buyin 4 off of Steam.

Hold off unless you want to pay $60 for a beta. Tons of features just don't work right now and you run the risk of wasting tons of time on cities that will revert, break, or are useless to your region.

If you're really anxious though, grab SimCity 4 on amazon. It's at 13 on amazon's best-selling list since SimCity's release and subsequent disaster. By most accounts, SimCity 4 is the pinnacle of Classic Sim City.

You need education as well I think.

Everything works fine for me. What features are you talking about?

Wow I just went to visit a city in my region and lost about an hour of progression on my city when I came back. What the hell??

I thought the always online meant your city was always saved.

  • Education, according to loading screen tips, helps sims prevent from sickness due to germs.
  • Ground pollution. I like to keep avenues and commercial districts as a barrier between residential and industrial. As for sewage, avoid dumping it out near groundwater.

The traffic is back. It looks like they temporarily turned off tourists?

Also looks like garbage collection just got borked

Leaderboards, Global Market based pricing, sharing City Hall resources with the region, and Cheetah speed, to name a few.

Wait, those don't work? My god, I must be playing a SimCity copy made from magic.

My Empire State Building is generating 20k profit.

It's easy to miss these features early to mid game. You don't necessarily need any of them if you run your cities like they're isolated silos. Regional play, however, is basically broken, both online and off.

They made an official announcement that they disabled "Cheetah Speed" in a patch, making it the exact same speed as the second speed, and it hasn't been turned back on yet. Same with Leader Boards and other features. So yes, you are playing a copy made from magic. Lucky!

Mine was losing money out of no where for a few months when the traffic suddenly disappeared, and now suddenly the traffic is back and my Empire State is back in the black.

It seems I just lost my 200k+ pop city to "the cloud." First attempt to open/join, I see the city area and name. Second attempt is a blank loadscreen that loads perpetually until I'm forced to alt+f4 to close. I'm sure this will be the first of potentially several occurrences, but that's at least 8hr+ gone.

I was planning on using it as my ore/industrial city, but regional play is so utterly gimped/broken it probably wouldn't have turned out as planned. I guess it's not a total loss?

Had that same thing happen last week. Pissed me off, but I pretty much rebuilt it as best I could. Here's some pics.

I think I'm just about done now as there's no more room to expand and it's just about accumulating density and cash at this point. Gonna move on to others in the region.

Guys :/ I am in NA East 1 on GAFTopia Viridian Woods 1. I haven't been able to play for four days. Today I FINALLY got on. So I start building in Taviana and things are going good. In the top left it now says, "Sim City servers are down". I'm assuming none of my stuff has been synced.

This sucks.

My casino went from generating $9k a day, to -$9k overnight. Either going to visit a city, or opening up a 2nd casino, did something that killed Casino's for me.

Then a Tornado came by and really killed the casino's.

Ummm my city is 180k pop, I've built 10 cities from the beginning, and my region with my friends is 2 million pop. We chat in game, trade, share resources, built 2 great works.

I don't think I'm missing anything.

I had some intermittent problems in the first few days and had some trouble with region play, but last night it was like everything regarding region play clicked back on, save for leaderboards, achievements, and cheetah speed. I'm on US east 2, and have a second on US east 4. My game is working fine.

See that bin? yeah, it's not going anywhere. It came from a zoned IND building. I dezoned and deleted it and its still there. Reloaded the game, still there, cant place a building on it. When I take a building the game will say i can place it but when I try and plop it the ghost building disappears and its still there.

I had that warning for a while before it kicked me out. Definitely lost any changes I made.

So both of my recycling centers are busted again. Completely stopped processing any of the materials. No way I'm bulldozing them both to spend over 100k on each again to star them up...

When they recycling does work it will be a great way to boost profits, even if you just sale the rare materials...

Are recycling centres a good way to get materials for the processing plant? I think I tired it once, but maybe because I was testing with an early city that wasn't smart enough to recycle.

The building it belonged to is gone, but it's still attached to the road. To delete it, you have to bulldoze the section of road it's on. I ran into this earlier tonight when I rezoned a bunch of industry.

You only have to bulldoze one section, though. Just keep clicking on the road (and hit Esc if it doesn't work) with the bulldoze tool until you see that bin highlight yellow. Once it's gone, just rebuild that ten feet of road and rezone.

already tried that, the road in the pic was completely rebuilt to try and figure out why its still there.

Anyone having trouble with the water table?
I run out of water constantly. Never seen it rain once in my game.

throw in a sewage treatment in a clean area and put a pump next to it. It will put water back into the ground over time.

I'm very frustrated. I have painstakingly made enough space to plop an airport. When I go to plop it down, it just doesn't. It clears out the area I plop it in, but it won't build it. Just for grins I cleared out another area. Same thing. I restarted the game. Same thing. I really need an airport to ship out all this stuff I'm collecting, but the game simply will not plop the damned thing down.

What am I doing wrong?

*edit* Oh, it's the same problem georgc is having! How the hell do I get rid of the fence from the old building?

I've had something similar that isn't going anywhere: after bulldozing my first pathetic attempt at a city, I was left with the remainder of 4 garden fences on the map, just like that bin there. The only difference is that these fences keep demanding a connection to the highway and they don't react to any road I build in their vicinity.

Region sharing is still fucked up. I build a new city, right next to my first one. My old city has some of those newfangled vertical wind turbines researched at the university, so it's generating electricity out the wazoo. Can I buy that power? Nope.

So I lay down a wind turbine. Can't upgrade to the vertical turbines because it requires a university in the region, engineering research, all that jazz. Meanwhile, I can fucking see the vertical turbines about three hundred yards away in my first city, but it says I don't have any of the necessary regional requisites to build them.

At this point, even though I can sign in and play without any issues, I can't really play.. all of my cities have hit a brick wall of needing to use the cities around them that the game won't let me fucking use.

I'm guessing not everyone is having this problem, else everyone would be complaining more about it.

Any chance of VW3 getting moved off of North America East 1? I can literally join every single server except North America East 1.

Im having the same problems with region sharing on all my games in NA East 2.

I don't think this approach is good for a number of reasons. They're too expensive early on, they don't do anything better than high density streets, they take up WAY more total space once you have them all gridded out

They are pricey, but I never draw more than a few main roads/intersections when I first start. Usually drop about $30k on the avenues. Depending on the region you are playing, you will have access to $50k or $100k bonds, which is plenty when starting out. This way I'm never going through the tired process of upgrading roads over and over, then running in to problems when buildings want to increase density when they can't.

Haljackey on Twitch has a good demonstration of why high density avenues are best when starting your city. In his beta 3 video, he shows how the grid lines adjust to high density avenues vs. high density streets. Here's a link.

I don't use origin for anything else, so I'm just going to call my bank and get my 60 bucks back. I broke my EA boycott to play this and it's been nothing but frustration all week. I've had more fun with Sniper Elite v2: Nazi Zombie Army than I have with SimCity, and I think that's saying something.

same problem here. I really need to make another city to support my first one but the town hall upgrades aren't providing the bonuses to the other cities in the region and my trash/recycling trucks aren't coming to the other cities. I also tried sending money to some friends and the message pops up telling me the gifts were sent, but they never received them

East 2 also

How do you claim cities? I finally got around to trying the game out, did the tutorial, and now when I try to join a region it says to claim a city, but I can't.

EDIT: I think I figured it out, the game is only showing me regions that are full. WTG game...

Yeah, that's what happens when I try to share power. It says it's sending it, but the number stays at zero, and it never arrives. Then the residents get pissed waiting for so long.

Yes if Sims are "Educated" they will recycle. It cuts down on trash by like 50-75% it seems. You can process recycled materials like Plastics, Alloy or Metal, and thus use them in manufacturing plants to produce products, and thus sale. You can also just flat out send the materials to trade depots to be exported for $.

Only problem... is they are bugged. I also assume that once region stuff is working properly you could technically harvest, with enough plants, all the recyclables for the entire region and a) provide materials for other cities to produce goods or b) sale them for profit.

So I've just logged in for the first time tonight since I bought the game. It looks like the game is patching incredibly slow, but there's no download speed or anything. The status bar just says processing large file and it's been slowly crawling along for a good half hour. Is there anything I can do to speed this up?

Gah, I wanted to make a region filled with homes, then another filled with businesses, but the businesses are whining that their aren't enough shoppers, then the residents are whining that there aren't enough businesses..

As for schools, I tried putting a university, high school, etc into one city, yet buses for the highschool won't travel to another city... Lame

My people don't give a fuuuuck about recycling, and I can't figure out why.

My tech knowledge is on 3, but my education rating is only on 3 as well, I already have all the schools in my city, and they all have more capacity than students.

I really don't know what to do.
