SimCity |OT| It's not the simulation or city that matter, it's <parameter: string>

Gah, I wanted to make a region filled with homes, then another filled with businesses, but the businesses are whining that their aren't enough shoppers, then the residents are whining that there aren't enough businesses..

As for schools, I tried putting a university, high school, etc into one city, yet buses for the highschool won't travel to another city... Lame

So is it just community colleges and universities that have commuters? Does there need to be an elementary/high school in every city?

For anyone interested, there's a way of getting SimCity for $45USD or $44AUD for the Digital Deluxe OR $27USD or $26AUD for the Limited Edition.. Numerous people have said it works, taken from a popular Aussie forum, and they said it works well, you can read the feedback here.
1) Load http://store.origin.com/store/easa/en_IN/home/ThemeID.1220200/ccRef.en_IE/ccSet.in in browser with no proxy (I'm guessing using a proxy wont hurt here).
2) Proceed to add to cart and checkout.
3) On the registration screen, type in your real aussie address but for the country put India.
4) Use your credit card as per normal.
5) Wait for emails.

Yes if Sims are "Educated" they will recycle. It cuts down on trash by like 50-75% it seems. You can process recycled materials like Plastics, Alloy or Metal, and thus use them in manufacturing plants to produce products, and thus sale. You can also just flat out send the materials to trade depots to be exported for $.

Only problem... is they are bugged. I also assume that once region stuff is working properly you could technically harvest, with enough plants, all the recyclables for the entire region and a) provide materials for other cities to produce goods or b) sale them for profit.

What's the bug?

I just plotted one down and started making tons of money compared to my Oil Drilling.

Yeah, pretty sure it's only the universities and community colleges that can have people from different regions. When I put bus stops down in the residential city, it said that there weren't any schools for them to go to, and no-one ended up catching the bus..

I'm having trouble getting people to use the ferry and train. Do I just need higher wealth residents? Or do I not have enough tourist/commuters coming in?

You need a good reason for people to travel between your city and your city's neighbors. I had a lot of people using the train and ferry to commute to jobs in a neighboring city, later on I added touristy things and that got tourists using the train as well. Note that the train tracks have to connect to the city people are going to.

Well, I was fortunate enough to have a marathon session of about 6 hours or so last night. But going back in today, I can get through the launcher, and to the main menu to select PLAY / Continue, good through the map load screen, but every single time during the map load screen Sim City crashes to desktop and I get "Sim City TM has stopped working" error.

Hoping all that time didn't just up and disappear in the cloud. Anyone else having this issue?

So I played my old region tonight on NA East 2 and the region stuff still wasn't functioning. I switched to the new NA East 4 and started a new region, everything seemed to be working fine. Receiver coal from global market, built a second city and my sims commuted to the other city and the shaded bars for the region in the RCI showed up.

In short, either the new servers are better able to run the region stuff or the old syncs/saves are borked. I'd bet on the latter.

I think it's just random right now whether they work or not. My region is NA East 2, I logged on about 20 minutes ago just for 5 minutes, and got lots of regional messages about how my old city was buying electricity from my neighbor, sending sewage to him, and that one of his murderers was on the loose in my town.

Yay. Guess its time to relocate again.

But could you see any of this stuff? And was your city started post patch?

This game is awesome. I'm new to SimCity and any Sims in general and I'm struggling but loving.

I have 0 friends on Origin or know anybody playing this game though and that sucks cause I feel like this game would shine if you were able to play with friends.

Would appreciate it if some GAF people added me however: my username is MarkMayyhem

The city was started Thursday evening (I managed to play for 4 hours that day, until the game kicked me off and lost an hour of my progress). And well, my people weren't complaining about the lack of power.

Could be hit or miss but if you're having trouble with one, might be worth a shot to create a different region, server, or both.

Not really an option, me and my friends have 5 cities in our region that we've spent a lot of time on, and I don't want to play with random strangers. I'm just gonna not play the game until the game is 100% functional.

Yours seems to be functioning on at least some level. I meant those that don't have any region interaction.

Totally screwed myself with recycling...

Everyone in my city wanted to recycle. Can't process the recyclables fast enough. Needed to make like 3 more Recycling centres lol. At least it's rolling in the cash.

Yo guys, just gt the game and played through the tutorial, ready to start the real deal. Are there any gaf regions that have openings? I am going to try to mess around in some games before I join up with gaf. all of the games I browsed through are full. Gonna lone wolf it for a while...

Same problem here. I have 4 recycling centers with 64 trucks and they're not even picking up 50% of the recyclables

I think my population is too highly educated. But then I also have a few factories complaining about the lack of skilled workers

Is this for real or a joke? I would buy for a friend of mine for this price but not if everything is in Hindu or w/e they speak over there (pardon my American ignorance)

Edit: Nevermind I'm an idiot the original post even had a link to feedback and I just went there. Ma bad.

R.I.P. Glassbox. Now for more goodness from EA employees over this mess.

Hey, Paul, you might wanna see this. On IGN, another Employee for EA was attacking users (myself included) in the comments section for a cheats wiki for Simcity.

He called me a (quote) “fuckin moron,” stated that “complainers” didn’t have an understanding of how servers are run, and, as such, need to “STFU.” He further labeled user complaints as being “radical” and described them as being fueled by an “an angry mob that doesnt lsiten to reason.”

Here’s the EA employee’s account:

http://people.ign.com/hahajason

You can see his job description: “Interactive Design Specialist at EA”

And here’s the link to the wiki article:

http://www.ign.com/wikis/simcity/Cheats_and_Secrets

All you need to do is scroll down to the user comments and read the ones from user “hahaJason.”

If you browse his Disqus account, you’ll see him insulting upset customers in other postings as well.

Hopefully, someone exposes this butt-hole. Paying customers shouldn’t be subjected to this.

That's a quote from a comment on Forbes here. Anyone know any other good popcorn reads?

parks are the best

my city is constantly complaining about the lack of workers, it's true - because it only has ~90k people right now. but the problem is I have already devoted half of the city to residential zones and i'm dividing it into as many cubes as possible. almost 90% of my residential buildings are high wealth and high density. what am I doing wrong here?

Might have zoned for high wealth too quickly? They might still be trying to fill the basic jobs.

That's the problem right there - high wealth. A city's core workers don't come from the 1% :)

Thanks for this. Bought the game, 27$ was too good a deal. Card has been charged but no game showing up yet.

I'm just throwing out ideas here, but did you do the education specialization? Also, I for the university and community college I remember the game telling me that student could drive, use rail or buses, which would mean regional buses, not school buses.

Edit: do you have the department of education city hall add on? Apparently you need that for regional school access.

My one city has like 70k citizens and about 500 visitors, but when a friend of mine raised his taxes to 20%/20%/20% and went offline... well, now I have nearly as much visitors as citizens. :lol

So does inviting friends not work right now, or do I just have to play server roulette to actually play the "social" part of this social game?

YO, I am new as well. I created a game. You can look for it, it's called Tamriel. Amyway, it's a small 3 city map so we can learn the basics before moving on to bigger and brighter things lol

Seems that most people that are using this are aussie :(. I'm in the U.S, oh well.

Can anyone explain this to me? This is my recycling center. All I want are the alloys and plastics. What does the '20/20 tons of recyclables' mean? Is that screwing me up somehow?

The recyclable trash from the city has to be collected and then storage.

THEN it'll be converted into whatever you want, but that takes a little while.

yes, it means that eventually your city will create more trash than you can collect and store, thus, you'll need to build another recycling center.

Oh ok thanks. That makes sense now. Guess I really don't need 16 collection trucks.

Here's some pictures showing my traffic problem...so fucked.

You can't see it but it's the same right through the city. I have airports, buses, boats, park and rides and street cars, but these fuckers just want to drive.

and just for fun

OK thanks I need to do that. My plastic imports have run completely dry for no good reason, I'm no where near where I need to be on processor production.

The recyclable processing will split evenly depending if you have even numbers of alloy and plastic lines. It's pretty good resource for what you need.

Is it normal for the game to constantly connect and disconnect from the server while you're playing?

I was in the tutorial and when you go to visit the casino city I was "disconnected" and the game dropped back the the main menu.

I tried it again and waited for connection to be "restored" before continuing to casino city and it worked successfully.

Just want to make sure it's not my internet causing issues!

Fuck this game. I'm pretty sure I just lost an entire 2-3 hours of work on my city. The server disconnected and booted me from the game now I can't reconnect to NA West 2.
