I choose a server and click play, and the SC mini screen goes away....but the game doesn't appear? I check my Task Manager and the game is listed in 'Background Processes'? When I click on the game in Origin it says that Sim City is already running...?

This happened to me when I was using mumble and had overlay enabled. Maybe?

Nope, I started my GAF city as a casino city and was loosing a lot of coin, so I started focusing more on tourism but that's not really working right and I think it's adding a significant amount to my traffic congestion. Now I'm hoping to switch over now to a recycling exporter city with global trading. I'm trying to set up a bunch of plants to get recyclables from the other cities, not sure how well that plan will work though.

You should start specializing long before you max out your land, what specialization were you going to do?

Before they took the leader boards down electronics were seriously about 15 times higher than anything else. They're really going to have to bring it in line with everything else.

I still cannot access NA East 2, even at 3:30am. I'm starting to think its not full and that actually its quarantined. NA West 4 works excellently, and Europe East 1 has been solid since day 1 for me.

Traffic is truly bizarre right now in the city i'm playing. The population is 200k+, yet there are very few cars on the road and no traffic jams. Tourists have entirely disappeared again. I think something is being tinkered with regarding tourism. The same set up only an hour ago led to complete gridlock in my buffer zone before the freeway.

Also, does anyone else have a disaster every 5 minutes or so? I had a chain of multiple earthquakes, meteor showers, lizards, and zombie attacks that nearly drove my city to bankruptcy. Since then I've gotten luckier and have been having wimpier tornadoes in less disadvantageous areas.

Fuck this game. I'm pretty sure I just lost an entire 2-3 hours of work on my city. The server disconnected and booted me from the game now I can't reconnect to NA West 2.

Not necessarily. I had a flaky internet connection the other night and I was disconnected quite a while before I realised my internet was completely down and the next time I logged on I'd lost no progress that I could identify.

For anyone interested, there's a way of getting SimCity for $45USD or $44AUD for the Digital Deluxe OR $27USD or $26AUD for the Limited Edition.. Numerous people have said it works, taken from a popular Aussie forum, and they said it works well, you can read the feedback here.

Now that's a price I'm willing to jump in at. SC4 is great and all, but I kinda wanna give the latest and greatest a whirl, warts and all. $27 is borderline the right price. I'll give this method a go after dinner and update how it goes.

There's a road upgrade button, but if you want to go from streets to avenues you have to bulldoze.

Isn't it basically buying the Indian version though? Don't they ban or suspend people for that? I know Valve lock some people out of games that they bought from the "wrong" region.

As noted in earlier post, I've already got it Been playing it this last week due to not being able to turn the internet on without seeing something about fucking Sim City! It plays pretty damn well for a decade old game, though it's pretty obtuse in many ways.

Man oh man, the things I'd give for a 'new' Caeser 3...

It is "asynchronous." Stuff you did in the other cities will begin to influence stuff in your city over time, like workers, shoppers, and students commuting, but progress on the other cities will essentially enter a paused state until you return to manage them. Same if you switch from your current city to one of the others.

Fuck, I chose the commerce upgrade for HQ instead of consumer, only to find out I could have gotten the same upgrade through my trade HQ. My friend has the consumer upgrade, and I think it is regional, so I can build computers when the regional stuff is turned back on. Space Station, here I come!

Electronics is indeed unbalanced, not that I'm complaining. I'm losing 20K every hour but I'm coming to 1.5mil in the bank and rising because my 3 electronics factories are just raking in the cash. I'm even importing plastics and alloys which is expensive but I'm still making a significant profit every month.

I notice water depletes REALLY quickly, I've had to move my water facility twice already and I'm running out of water supplies. My neighbours aren't providing water supplies either so in about another 5 hours of real-world game time my city is going to be pretty fucked.

Add a sewage treatment plant next to the water pump. Sewage treatment plants take the sewage they get, purify it, then deposit it back into the water table. Provided you don't overburden it the water produced is 100% or very nearly so unpolluted.

Build schools. When you have the education tab open, you can see the overall education level of your population. But if you're only starting down this road now I HIGHLY recommend getting rid that nuclear plant for a while.
